Lost someone I loved very recently. We sang (for fun) together when no one else was around (she refused to sing in front of anyone except me, after much coercion). Went to this version immediately. Now that I’ve heard the 2021 version, I’m going to try to mix them together. Miss you, my Nani. It’ll be for you, but I need this for me, too. I reached to the sky when I begged the big guy to let you stay even if it meant losing you as my better half. As He gave us those additional 6 months a year later, I’m grateful we had that time together before the disease took you. The pain and struggle for you is done- I have to look at it this way to accept it.

I liked this song from the first time I heard it when the album came out. I was in 4th grade at the time. I lost my best friend in a hiking accident when I was 16, and this song gave a much deeper meaning, and every year on his death, I play this song at his grave site. Sounds weird, but it''s just what I do. Funny thing is, through his death, I found the girl who years later would marry me, so this song has an interesting happy/sad feeling to it. I came to listen to this song after hearing that she's going to be the new singer for Linkin. I didn't remember this track, and it still gives me goosebumps (as we say here in Spain). I'm still amazed at how, in a situation like this, where so many memories flood your mind, he can produce a voice instead of tears... Tomorrow night will be 2 years since one of my closest friends died. This hauntingly beautiful song of loss will always have special meaning and brings me to tears. We both loved The Offspring, and he first introduced me to the music of Dead Sara in 2012. So this beautiful ballad version with Emily joining them always makes me think both sadly and happily of my friend. I'm 53 and still listen to both bands!

I have never heard this version of "Gone Away" before and I don't really follow The Offspring much anymore, but my teenage daughter loves them. I stumbled on this video by accident while looking up Dead Sara. My daughter told me the story behind the song after she saw I was crying after watching this video. Just last night I was telling my daughter about something that happened to me recently that made me feel like my mother-in-law who passed years ago had visited me when I needed someone. I know some people don't believe in these things, but it happens. This is a beautiful video & song and it's odd I discovered it when I did.
