When you start as a punk rock band and later can just casually book a whole symphonic orchestra AND Brian May for your concerts, it's not just underlining how much you've made it. Its underlining how much of a legend you've become.

Never thought there's ever going to be a live symphonic version of a song by a PUNK band, let alone together with Brian May. "Gone away" is just so timeless and universal. No matter what kind of grief or personal tragedy you've experienced, you can always relate to it. Since I first listened to it when I was in school and up to this day I cannot listen to this song and not have tears in my eyes. Hats off to this incredible performance!

Wow. I don’t know what’s happened in the last couple of years but these guys feel reinvigorated. Dexter sounds the best he has done for 20 years. The live shows are varied, interesting and engaging. And they are keeping the old material fresh. Love it. Great to have Brian in this as much as the orchestra. Won’t be to everyone’s taste but I like that they’re mixing it up - I’m a fan. Also, this drummer… we don’t really get to see it in this video but the energy he brings to the band is incredible. Hopefully he’s a long term fixture!

It's clear Dexter lost some weight so that's part of it. He still sings pretty nasally, but it just sounds like he worked hard on his voice the past few years to strengthen it. He used to sound out of breath. These guys have been around and seen it all, it's nice to see them still kicking ass 35+ years later
@EricAmesmusic
@EricAmesmusic 2 ай бұрын
not to be that guy but I think it's pretty clear Dexter's using autotune on stage nowadays. he's always been a good singer so who really cares, but that's why he sounds so good nowadays. I first noticed it in the video of them playing Million Miles Away with Ed Sheeran. Ed's on and off pitch, like any singer is live, and Dexter is perfect the entire time.

@@EricAmesmusic yeah I remember seeing a video of them playing on some show a couple of albums back, and the songs were all suddenly weirdly pitch-perfect. I mean Dex was a couple cents off sounding like black eyed peas. Having heard certain songs being slightly off pitch live for best part of 15 years the difference was pretty jarring. If he's still using it today they must have taken it down a couple notches as its not so obvious (or maybe the tech has improved, probably a bit of both). I think they probs are reinvigorated though as I think Dex has finished his studies and will hopefully have more time to dedicate to the band and taking care of himself.

I detect auto-tune and or some sort of pitch correction being used. While I think his voice is still not bad, I don't think it's as good as we're being led to believe. I noticed the same thing when I saw them live a couple years back. That said, I still appreciate him as he proved to us all that for the longest time he could sing without such effects. Everyone gets old and or experiences changes with their body's and vocals, that's part of life. This song is also timeless.

@@MonkHoward You sound quite angry and kind of irrational. The tone of your reply doesn't bode well, let alone the fact that you're seemingly unaware that Autotune is an app which does pitch correction and that the are many other pitch correction tools / effects out there doesn't give you much accreditation. I'm sorry if you want to live in a delusion. Also I did give him credit for the past when he didn't use it, and also for the amazing song that this band has brought to us.

This song came out as a single the week my father died in Feb of 1997, it always hits very close to home, and it always goes to 11 on my radio when it goes by. Seeing it live makes me shiver every time they do it. And when Dexter does it more as the torch song version when he plays piano is chilling. The Disturbed version is a very good cover of it and pays it full respect.

Yeah I saw them twice .. First time I was only 16 and Dad took me to what was I think their first gig in Australia for the album "Smash" in '95 .. it was an over 18 show and I was really worried I wouldn't get let it in.. Dad accompanying me was no doubt why I made it through security.. legend .. It was at a club in Melbourne that probably had a max capacity of several hundred.. That place was literally bouncing with a raw energy that every single person was feeling to their core .. I will never forget that vibe .. The next time was around 2000 for Americana .. they were doing stadium gigs by then so different vibe but still put on a great show.. I've seen countless bands ll at shows and festivals in the last 30 years and Offspring are still in my best of all time.. I haven't got into their tunes since Conspiracy of one but I'm a total sucker for the nostalgia 🤘

Got to love a song starting out slow then getting heavy at the end. Another great version of Gone Away! Got to love a rock legend making an appearance. Awesome performance!

I had the original on repeat back in 2008 when my wife passed away from metastatic breast cancer a the age of 32. This rendition is even more heart wrenching. I have been a huge fan for a long time and actually wore out my Ignition CD. Thank you for this song. It was there when I needed it then and even when I need it now. You never stop loving the ones you have lost, but you learn to live with the loss and appreciate the time and memories you had with them.
