Progress on the XQEMU emulator has been good so far, and shows a lot of promise. Halo 2 running at full speed already, at least with a hypervisor like Linux KVM. I recommend looking at XQEMU as a great method for true low-level emulation of the Xbox. Currently it is only ready for those who are either acquainted with QEMU, or are die-hard Xbox modders, but later it will be as accessible as PCSX2

Hey Adam, as a heads up: Splinter Cell was actually never patched! 007 Agent Under Fire and MechAssault were but Splinter Cell's savegame exploit was never patched. Fun fact though: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 can also be used to softmod! The method for that wasn't released until 2016 so all existing copies of it work as well.

I still can’t believe they didn’t add Halo CE and Halo 2. Halo CE is literally the game that saved the Xbox. I know there’s the Master Chief Collection but 343 fucked up a lot of things in the MCC especially Halo CE which is based off the inferior PC port just watch LateNightGaming’s video on it. 8:34 DUDE!!!!!!! you do need it. ok check this out. The Halo 1 version that we got on Halo Anniversary (xbox 360) was made from the PC port Halo and not the console Halo 1!!!!! The PC version of Halo 1 has a ton of problems, gearbox software which did the port completely fucked up on the transparencies so things like the Jackal's shield do not change color when you shoot them. Other things like bump mapping do not EVEN work correctly unless you turn your flashlight on. The model of Captain Keys is not even the one from the console version but a inferior previous version. The original Xbox Halo CE is superior on a technical level to the Halo Anniversary and Master Chief Collection!!!!

On your comment about Halo, they really should've strode to make it compatible on og Xbox. If you look at comparisons between the original game and all the remasters (PC port, Anniversary, MCC), you'll see what a disservice they did to the game's visuals. If they had gone back and taken the time to properly redo the original game, that would've made so many people ecstatic. Especially if they upped it to 4K resolution.

The 360 version of double agent is compatible they put both versions on backwards compatibility because they're not the same game and a lot of fans considered the original Xbox version the better version of double agent. They both ran on two completely different engines

I know this is an older video an all, but just because a game didnt make the cut thus time doesnt mean it wont ever happen. The biggest evidence I have is Destroy All Humans. The first game is available, but not the second. Meanwhile on PS4, we have BOTH games available for download, and this was somewhat recent, like within the past couple years. To me it doesnt make sense to have 1 platform have a game and not the other, especially if the reason is "licensing issues".

I could totally see both lists on both One and Series X being identical given how much they are still supporting One players with things like Smart Delivery. Splinter Cell Double Agent on OG Xbox is a whole different game from the X360 version. The OG Xbox ver. was developped by the original team and the X360 ver. by a new team. The result is that one version is more like Chaos Theory and the other has a very different vibe. Fans tend to prefer the OG Xbox ver. Look it up, despite the same packaging those games differs vastly (more than graphics, the story and levels arevery different).

GTA San Andreas is a curious case indeed is the first game that does not use the original game build and code. I think they choose the 360 version because that version is basically the OG xbox version with better textures it even lacks the PS2 sun lighting and lens flare effects so it would look better in 4K resolutions. Considering backwards comparability last since 2015.... Is only 3 and half years they really worked a lot. More than 60% 360 games are compatible now

Okay, so I was extremely happy about the Splinter Cell games, for a couple of reasons. I know the OG Xbox versions of those games are the ones that made it to PC, but controller support back in those days were rare for PC games. So, even though I own all the titles on PC, I much prefer playing them with a controller. The PC versions have some issues when trying to do so. Pretty happy I can now just play them again without the hassle. However, the second reason actually just pertains to one of those games. Double Agent on the OG Xbox is different than the 360 version and the 360 version is the one that made it to PC. A lot of people, including myself, preferred the OG Xbox version of Double Agent, so it was cool they included it. Just a note, it wasn't just Splinter Cell that got its DLC. I'm pretty sure the DLC for Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory were added as well. Games I wish made it: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I&II Jet Set Radio Future NBA Street Vol. 2 Red Dead Revolver Forza Motorsport As for the future, I assume they're gonna pick back up where they left off when the next Xbox comes out. I mean, I kind of figured they had to stop eventually for this generation. It's gonna take a lot of work to get everything working on next gen hardware. Especially if they want everything to work on it DAY ONE. I'm not sure if they're gonna be able to accomplish that, but they're gonna give it a shot anyway.

I'm a little disappointed that neither of the OG Xbox Mech Assault titles made it but Battletech and Mech Warrior related content rights have had a somewhat complicated history so it's not incredibly surprising. They kind of did need Halo 1 and 2. Halo 1 in the MCC is based off a meh PC port by Gearbox and Halo 2 is based of Halo 2 Vista, which is another meh port. Halo 1 and 2 in the MCC are missing details and are slightly different in certain areas. It's not the end of the world, but your channel is dedicated to the best possible output of original consoles, this is basically just an extension of it, I'd much prefer if we got it.

The OG Xbox version of Double Agent was actually a completely different game than the 360 version, with different missions and different gameplay. Most people prefer the sixth gen version. I am very glad to see all of the Splinter Cell games make it to the Xbox One

But it was not exactly meant for backwards compatibility. It does help, but I think Microsoft designed this to make ports and lessen the differences between the 360 and One architectures, so developers who were used to 360 could migrate to One easier.

Reading formats just make things a little bit easier, but it is not guaranteed, like how many old games dont work on PC even though the system itself does know what the files are (the OS sees as an executable, instead as a random file such as DOS games) and try to read them.

Not exactly, the Xbox One has some similar architecture that makes the process easier, it certainly wasn't there for the purpose of backwards compatibility though.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is a hidden gem. I played it on the game cube with my brother when we were kids, not even knowing there was an Xbox version until now and I had an Xbox. I had forgotten about it for a while but it's great to see it back.

I don't think I would necessarily say the project was a flop. I think Microsoft just did all they could with it. This was more a "passion project for long-time Xbox fans". I doubt Microsoft thought they were really going to make money on this. Also when this project was first announced, having 100+ OG Xbox titles was unrealistic.

You have a good point, it was a bit too unrealistic to say that we’re gonna get all of them. In terms of it being a flop though, it was more of a technical one than either commercially or critically (we don’t know how many digital copies were sold, so we cannot confirm anything sadly). Kudos to Microsoft though.

i do not think it flopped........The xbox one failed before it even came out because of E3 2013. They just did this because they have nothing else to do as the exclusive games for the xbox one are so few and the ones we get are mediocre at best (Crackdown 3) or get cancelled (Scalebound, Fable Legends)

When I heard about these last batch of games coming to the backwards compatibility program I was hoping you'd do one last vid. Bitter sweet but glad we got the games we did. Hopefully they can add more 360 games to Xbox Scarlett. I understand that legal rights is super limiting to the OG Xbox lineup which is sad. Still, great video man. Keep up the phenomenal work.

Phil Spencer said during Inside Xbox (after the E3 conference), that they plan to make every game that works on Xbox One also work on Project Scarlett. So I assume Xbox One compatibility will be perfect, while 360 and OG Xbox will work like it does now.

I hate how this was all handled I have like 75 og Xbox games and like maybe 6 work on an x1. Like what’s the point of building this feature and when it works like 8% of the time. Guess that’s 8% more than my ps4 would play ps3 etc

I hope Microsoft will come back with some more batches of 360 and OG Xbox games once they are confident in their backcompat numbers for the Xbox One games running on Scarlet. There are still some really great titles such as Burnout 3 on OG Xbox and The Simpsons Game on 360 that id like to have backcompat for and not really ever have to connect up my 360 again.

Back compat was such a huge bonus for this gen. When you play PS2 games now they look fairly foggy, but still fun. XBOX 1 made playing OG xbox games very enjoyable and I hope they let it continue on Scarlett even if it's just the 41 titles.

Thanks for the reply. It seems to be working now. I guess after I the 6the time I inserted the disk my Xbox One S figured out that it needed a full systems update. Currently downloading KOTOR 2!!!

Great video! I’m a little sad that the program has ended, but I am happy with the last round of games. I had jus picked up Indiana Jones for the OG Xbox a few months ago so that was perfect. The only game I really wanted for BC for OG Xbox One but didn’t get was Jet Set Radio Future. I have no complaints though with over 600 games made backwards compatible! I hope that Scarlett allows bc for physical copies of all games, but even if they just keep what they have done already with xb1 I will be satisfied with that.

Actually, I wish Microsoft added Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2 to backwards compatibility, mainly Halo CE. Both anniversary versions of those games are based on their PC builds. When it comes to the Gearbox Software port of Halo CE, Gearbox messed up some lines of code for certain visual effects that never got fixed and carry over to Halo CE Anniversary. The xbox one is probably actually the only one that has lived up to any hype. Apart from a few old Nintendo consoles and a few atari no one had done backwards compatability as good as the xbox one has. I think the link library they have is great but personally would have liked max payne 1@2 maybe 3 if I really fancy and the riddick games which I'm sure would have looked amazing x enhanced. I was pretty surprised when they brought resident evil code veronica x so hoping next gen will have a few more.

Adam, thank you for revealing some logic regarding the backwards compatibility program. There are many gamers out there that understand nothing about corporations and tech, yet believe in magic such as the PS5 will be a $400 box capable of 120hz at 8k with full Ray tracing.
