Somalia's army simply couldn't function without the help of other Socialist countries, even though it didn't have a civil-war crisis as Ethiopia.

Why does it even matter now because Somalia and Ethiopia are allies now, plus this was over 40 years ago. Ethiopia is trying to help build Somalia’s government. Horn of Africa should work together. Look how Ethiopia and Eritrea put their differences aside. I rather see a strengthening in cooperation between African countries seen in intergovernmental organizations like the East African IGAD trade bloc between Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, and South Sudan. Development should take priority over war and and old conflict. I wish all of Africa could experience the peace and stability that the western world enjoys.

When Cuba and the Soviet Union supported Ethiopia Jijiga was lost by the Somali's in 1 month, if not weeks. The Socialist/Communist alliance defeated the Somali's within 1-2 months.
