Judo throws are so beautiful. BJJ players are so eager to get to the ground (in whatever clumsy way) that they forget that everything can be decided by one well-executed throw.

That is the big gap in BJJ. On the ground ( newaza) they are the best grapplers but on trows judoka's are miles ahead of them. Im not sayin BJJ is bad but on a street fight judoka's have a great advantage becouse they have those good trows. One succesfull trow on hard concrete is a possible fight ending.

i really like ogoshi, it is a very 'natural' throw, one that people will do without even knowing they are, but it is a very difficult one to setup (i have found). thanks for the tips and sequence. would you consider ashi-uchi-mata or ouchi gari to also valid as setups?

I love o-goshi because it's a close body hip throw. unlike say seoi nage you are stepping in. O-goshi feels like me sticking with the body in a tight situation already

I dont feel like I have the speed to move in from distance for an ippon sieonage, morote or similar but this type of forward throw, which starts from a close body position works better for me.

@@matthewoneill5354 I got what you are saying. I just started with Judo. I'm still in uchikomi stage. In uchikomi i do seoi nage in traditional hold with distance than turn in for the throw. But o goshi just start in holding the belt already. Probably i missed a step. I don't know much about competitions right now so i can only talk with my feelings. And o-goshi really gave me a feeling of doing JUDO

I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, do you think I’m ready to enter a judo tournament? 😉 I have been showing your videos to my little twin daughters, as they started judo classes half a year ago now, I always tell them to watch at least one of the videos a day to keep their little minds occupied with tactics and skill acquisition. Cheers brother. Even if a lot of the videos are related to bjj…. Also great content.

These techniques in judo are very impressive indeed I don't know if I'm ever get back it into karate this type of program cost a lot more than usual I just wish I could have stayed in my original karate class and maybe things would have worked out better I just wish I could have got into it more on my computer or just try to improvise but good judo techniques I just wish I learns thing like this in karate it could have helped no matter who your up against what does someone is bigger and stronger than you would I just wish I could have kept up so I can become much stronger and bigger then they are so I can overpower them as hard as I can 🥋💪😉👍🥋

This circle drag with underhook position seems very tricky to do on heavier or even the same weight opponent. It feels unconvincing even on non-resisting and in randori the opponent just blocks/counters. Dragging from the lapel first seems more practical (if the drag results in a good position to throw hips in).

Is it different to throw the ogoshi with no gi? What should the waist hand grab is probably a better question
@ddsharknads7782
@ddsharknads7782 3 жыл бұрын
When I attempt in this in BJJ, I just go for an underhook, as there really isn't anything to grab. That being said, I think this is very hard to do no gi because you have no sleeve to grab on the opposite side. I'm sure there's somebody that can give you better advice though. I've only been doing this for a year.
@martiallife4136
@martiallife4136 3 жыл бұрын
You should look at how wrestlers do this throw. It's called a hip toss and can be done from different clinch positions. Having a good underhook, a strong pull on the wrist or elbow works. I wrestled a little in high school and was taught to shoot my hips through instead of directly in front. Also throw for distance. Meaning do not throw the person directly in front of you but further away.

@Zenfulmike

how does one do O-goshi on a guy with stomach so large your arm can't go around his back? probably wouldn't try in competition, but I have to practice this move for my yellow belt promo, and most of the guys in my weight class, 100kg+, are more like 130kg+... it is becoming difficult to practice this. Can I just grab the side of the belt, instead of trying to go all the way around the back?
@jestfullgremblim8002
@jestfullgremblim8002 Жыл бұрын
The important thing is getting an underhook, it will give you a lot of leverage when paired woth the sleave control on their other arm. If they are vey heavy, you must make them want to move into your throw! You can try to do something like a Ko Uchi gari for that. They'll put their weight forward to not get thrown by the ko uchi, when they do that, you go for your O Goshi.
