All the Oguta Lie Bobo songs remind me of my mum. My mother used to sing them along as she cooks or works in the farm. I like singing them as a reminder of the richness of Luo songs. Pakruok, the lessons one can learn, like Jaa mineme ma ohero picha angada. Nyar Rachiero odhi egunda mwanda ni bubu...wuoi ww temo pacha. Angeyi mabeer!

The humour! Only a jaLuo Kamili would understand. Absolutely FULL CAPITAL BONKASLY HILARIOUS. Did you hear the jaminembe one towards the end!!!!!! Oh Anyuola let us try by all means to catalogue and preserve our cultural heritage It's what will give us as well as our successors an identity in a world which is continually being inundated by monolithic western culture And the central story theme as presented.... interesting! ....wuowi wek temo pacha.......!

My mum tells me Oguta was once hired to perform in her step-father's home- K'Odiyo in Ogongo- back in the late 60s. And play he really played that night. Pple came to listen to onanda all the way from Kobodo, Ndhiwa, Mfangano, Rusinga, Uyoma as well as from Asego Kanyada. When Oguta played his onanda he meant business with it. He closed his eyes as he pulled the instrument. And pple were happy! Cham thuuuum!

I think the admin in this page has started something really wonderful. A soft library where we can access our culture especially as manifested in the traditional songs. You listen to the creativity of these old men, you get just a glimpse of the capabilities of our people in those days. What a wonder? I am having fun.
@jarawillao64475 жыл бұрын
A museum? wouldn't you rather an institute of music to learn the old instruments and if creatively inspired, eternalise them in notes or use them as raw material to launch a 'new' genre. Look at what we call ahangla today. Visit ahangla in 1960's and see if you can shout Eureka! ayudo kuma gini noayoe!
