The tweet about the guy not getting accepted into law school always gets me. When I was applying for Physician Assistant school, I had a very high GPA, a high GRE score, and checked off all the requirements to apply. I didn't get accepted to none of the schools I applied for. It was when I applied the 3rd time that I finally got accepted to a PA school. This school accepts 50 students per year, and 15 of those spots are reserved for legacy students, aka rich white people. I remember this 1 legacy student in my class had graduated with a 2.1 GPA. Now the rules of the school is that you have to maintain a 3.0 or you will get kicked out. The only reason why he didn't get kicked out is because his grandmother was a big donor to the school. And yes, he was white. Interestingly, though, all 4 of us black students were in the top 10% of our class. And we we didn't get special treatment like some of the white students, we studied twice as hard and worked our butts off.
@butterfish-g9f5 ай бұрын
Working twice to three times as hard to get even a sliver of what wealthy, and many middle class, white people have thrown at them is almost always the rule. They never want to admit this and instead want to always work off the assumption that the black people in the room are inherently dumber and worse than them, because otherwise they would have to sit with being mediocre, entitled and not really qualified for much at all.
@ctdesign2005 ай бұрын
When I went to PA school over 20 years ago, the administration of that school gave all the minorities low marks and weren't even given interviews. It was when the administration changed, minorities were allowed admission. Our class was the first diverse class.

That’s white code meaning “Every man for Themselves”
@keirfarnum68115 ай бұрын
Literally. The term “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” was actually originally meant to represent something that was impossible. No matter how hard someone pulls on their own bootstraps, it won’t get them any higher off the ground. But somehow the original meaning got lost and it came to just be viewed as “making it on your own.”
@nickfry78395 ай бұрын
i dont think its gaslighting. theres plenty of immigrants that come here, vietmanese, mexican, chinese, lots of immigrants who dont speak english even, that more than successfully pull themselvee, and their family up, by the bootstraps. but that not to detract if black folk are being prevented from pulling themselves up, just that pulling yourself up isnt impossible for eveyone.
@solofly57935 ай бұрын
@@nickfry7839 No it isn’t impossible for everyone, BUT what you have to realize is that the immigrants you mentioned gets subsidies and grants from the government so that they can start their own businesses one of the problems is that African Americans are cut off from the home country by culture by language by resources and by policies. Those people have 2 countries they can pull resources from. Now when you throw general discrimination and political schemes into the mix, black folks are always working with both hands and one foot tied behind their backs.
@KakouAmon25 ай бұрын
@@nickfry7839It is gaslighting. Also there’s a difference between an immigrant and a refugee. The people you are referring to are not immigrants, they are displaced due to circumstances in their country of origin thus making them refugees, ie the case of Mexicans Cartels. An immigrant is someone who’s relocating for work and/or education opportunities, not fleeing from any danger. An immigrant isn’t someone who’s necessarily suffering, a lot of times it’s the elites of those countries who can afford to go abroad so don’t think it’s impressive when you hear stories about immigrants doing well. As an immigrant in Canada at the moment from the IvoryCoast I guarantee you, not only am I from a wealthy family but I’m more educated than the great majority of Canadians I encounter and the same goes for all my friends who are also immigrants.

Mr. Calvin Michaels, you are an internet treasure! We need to thank you and protect you at all costs. The information and patient passion in this video is valuable and appreciated. Most white ppl will not perceive the notion of getting land, freedoms, jobs and education at the expense of others, as a negative; they see it as a flex. Barbarism, corruption and violence drive their policies and pro-white agendas, so taking things by force or self-serving legislation is status quo, and in their eyes, exemplifies intelligence and strength. So any attempt to shame them with how they got what they got, will either fall on deaf ears or stroke egos. Its quite puzzling to me, as I watch the antics of the anti-woke, DEI and CRT ppl, that they pride themselves as anti-government, anti-corporation and anti-college. All the while, using all of the aforementioned spaces to implement their pro-white agendas. Thankfully black Americans are wise to the tactics and will overcome as always.

Exactly what is your point? Why does it matter at all that the constitution was written a long time ago? Does that make it less important somehow in your mind?

@@spacedoutcowboy5211 I have very good reading comprehension and the OP's comment makes no sense. The constitution being written a long time ago doesn't change the fact that it's the greatest legal document ever written. It doesn't change the fact that it is still relevant to today's world. It doesn't detract from it's genius or how important it still is today and will be in the future. Slavery ending a long time ago on the other hand certainly detracts from the BS argument that anyone is still oppressed in America.

I do too, but I think some things were just too painful for our elders to discuss. I remember trying to talk to my grandmother to get some family history. Her whole demeanor changed. Just clammed up and I could tell she simply did not want to talk about childhood memories or anything.I'm glad we have people like Calvin to give us the facts on American history that others want swept under the rug.

I'm probably a different generation since I'm a boomer who was raised during the CRM and grew up on an HBCU where SNCC was my babysitter in AR. This is very much Oprah Winfrey's character's storyline in The Colored Purple. Let's not forget that the granddaughters of these same white women started a feminist movement because they believed themselves to be the most disenfranchised population on the planet. Then they rewarded themselves affirmative action. Again!

You're definitely right, as an older millennial I remember being taught about racism as if it was just done. What a neat thing, no more racism! That's a really confusing message to teach a child growing up in a country with so much racism and definitely will lead to adults with a skewed idea of what racism actually is. It's like people today think racism only happens if someone says "I'm not hiring you because of your race!" Nobody has hidden motivations and nobody ever just leaves things clearly implied. Here's why yt people grab on to such language: *_" Conservative social orders have often described themselves as civilized, and so one reads in the Wall Street Journal that "the enemies of civilization hate bow ties". But what conservatism calls civilization is little but the domination of an aristocracy. Every aspect of social life is subordinated to this goal. That is not civilization._* *_The reality is quite the opposite. To impose its order on society, conservatism must destroy civilization. In particular conservatism must destroy conscience, democracy, reason, and language."_* It goes further: *_"Conservatism has opposed rational thought for thousands of years. What most people know nowadays as conservatism is basically a public relations campaign aimed at persuading them to lay down their capacity for rational thought._* *_Conservatism frequently attempts to destroy rational thought, for example, by using language in ways that stand just out of reach of rational debate or rebuttal._* *_Conservatism has used a wide variety of methods to destroy reason throughout history. Fortunately, many of these methods, such as the suppression of popular literacy, are incompatible with a modern economy. Once the common people started becoming educated, more sophisticated methods of domination were required. Thus the invention of public relations, which is a kind of rationalized irrationality. The great innovation of conservatism in recent decades has been the systematic reinvention of politics using the technology of public relations."_* From "What Is Conservatism and What Is Wrong With It" by Phillip E. Victimhood. It comes about because a community has experienced a shared form of mistreatment.
@marlademps50985 ай бұрын
We aren't victims. You may consider yourself a victim, I do not. We weren't allowed the opportunities that whites benefitted from. We work twice as hard because white people consider us ignorant, uneducateable, lazy, and criminals. When we built on our own, they burned it down. Ask yourself this question. How can every other race come into our neighborhoods and start a business? I remember growing up with black owned businesses in my neighborhood. They aren't there now. Why do they raise the property taxes to force black homeowners out so they can gentrefy the area for yt people? Why do they use eminent domain, especially regarding black landowners, to build roads, bridges, and plants? Why are monies allocated for HBCUs never receive what they are due? Those funds are most often given to white institutions, and the state uses that money to help white areas or it's stolen. So we are not victims. They have been stealing what is due to us to ensure that we don't get our own. But they haven't stopped us. We are the largest block of entrepreneurs.

@@tigeruntamed6036, I won't pretend to speak for @MsJoyce31202, but I highly doubt that she wants to bee seen as victim... the discussion around victimhood in the speaker's presentation is exposition of the way it is wielded against us. In that context 'victimhood' is conferred pejoratively and used derogatorily, not objectively descriptive. I feel confident that anyone with a modicum of understanding can follow the conclusions presented in the video as precursors for antagonists (perpetrators of ill, i.e., the majority population in this nation) and protagonists (victims, Black Americans who have been subject to those ills, past and present).

You can't use logic or facts when speaking with a racist, it like trying to change a religious person,'s mind, because ws is a religion. Cognitive dissonance immediately set in, also difensive aggression because the specify person feels like it's an indictment of themselves because most likely they have engaged in racist behavioe in the past or present. Racist can't be reason with only neutralized.
