Thank you for taking the time to create this content. It’s so frustrating that most Vietnamese learning material is in “North Vietnamese”. Love you channel. Great job!

Thank you for the informative video! Maybe it’s because I’m American, but I‘ve only used cha for priests (Father Michael vs Cha Michael). Is there a reason it’s chết cha rồi instead of chết ba or bố rồi ?

Thanks Annie. Do you have any insight into the etymology of this phrase? As a foreigner it's such a curiously strange and funny phrase.

Are there some examples you'd say this is most casually used?

Or you can say "chết tôi rồi" (oh... no, i'm dying). This is the politest way of saying "ah, crap! , oh, shit"

I never realize that some of these are even offensive. I just casually say it like "dammit" XD BUT, viewers, lemme teach you some of the most offensive words that this video didn't teach. We DO have the equivalent of "motherfucker"... sort of... or more like "fuck your mom", which is its meaning. The phrase is "đụ má", "đụ má mày, "đụ mẹ", or "đụ mẹ mày". THIS IS EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE. IT IS NO DIFFERENT FROM "FUCK YOU"! And here is a curse phrase with the word "chết" that you can use everywhere - "chết tiệt". It's the equivalent of "dang it" or "darn it".

So it's ok for the father die but not the mom? Aren't women supposed to be the ones that are constantly complaining about discrimination? 😛
