its funny, here in Melbourne Australia, as a musician from a very small band, just playing local gigs on a quarterly basis, we've notice that the people are coming more and more to support small bands, and bars treating us better, and the whole scene is really different, from late 2019 when we played last, in a great way. I know you guys are coming to play here, I would love to hear your opinion about the bigger gigs. As both a fan and band wife whose family has also suffered from the lack of my husband being able to earn an income during the pandemic, I think this year albeit hellishly expensive ticket costs has been so important to us personally to get out there and support the bands we love. We were at the first two Ghost shows of this current run and the arenas were “mostly” packed but not as full as they should have been under normal circumstances. We saw Rammstein last night and there were quite a few empty seats and open space down in the floor/pit area. I really hope the industry will make a full rebound. Things are still just so uncertain right now and I feel for the whole community. #supportlivemusic 🖤

An interesting point was made recently. During WWII, people needed movies, the arts and music more than ever, to give them hope for a brighter future and to provide a relief from the grim reality of the times. I feel we have come to realise this now again, due to the Covid pandemic, as many reached out to KZbin musicians to give some glimmer of hope, and provide that stability, the memory of better times, to lift our moods and to remind us we are all going through this together. I believe music and the arts will survive all of this because humans need that connectivity; we are shaped by these experiences.

Hey, I was at the show on the 4th too! Papa sang the last chorus of Dance Macabre to the girl I brought with me. Needless to say, that's his girl now. She's a little badass though, caught one of Omega's stage used picks (not before wrestling other women on the barrier for it) and gave me one of the mummy dust dollars. The show was electric. My voice was almost shot by the end of Kaisarion. The only thing I'd change was adding Kiss the Go-Goat to the set but we got three songs from Opus so I really couldn't complain.

Hi Justin, I thought I would share my experience this year regarding live bands. We had two once-in-a-lifetime shows booked, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine, and both gigs were cancelled with very little notice. To be fair to RATM, they cancelled an entire tour, but RHCP cancelled on the day of the show, costing us £150 in hotel and travel costs. Personally, in a world of inflation and high petrol costs, going to see capricious bands who may cancel at the last minute is high risk entertainment, and unless you live in a major city and don't need to factor in travel, it is not worth the money right now.

I love The Darkness and I love Ghost. I had a chance to see Ghost + Volbeat here in NJ, USA this past spring and I was really tempted. But, between the cost, the time and chance of getting covid (either my getting covid before the show and missing it, or getting sick from someone at the show)? It kinda sucks, but those things factor in. I've also heard that venues are struggling too. Apparently even for shows that sell out, no-shows are a growing problem. Venues (apparently) make most of their money from food + beer, so if you get more no-shows, it really eats into your money. I love you guys!

I buy ticket insurance. It’s worth it. I’ve noticed that the higher priced tickets are usually the `verified resale’ (basically, legal scalpers) tickets. I try to get tickets during an artist presale, before the scalpers buy the good seats and jack the prices up. There’s a petition going around to break the Ticketmaster/Live Nation monopoly. The staff at our local House of Blues, and other smaller venues, support it. I signed it. I’m not paying $300+ for a $35 seat.

I'm in Brisbane, Australia, and just wanted to chime in about how depressing it must be. This is going back before the pandemic by a few years, but High Highs were touring, they played this tiny venue in Brisbane, and hardly anyone was there for it. Felt so bad for them, it was a nice intimate show but by the end you could kind of tell that it must have disheartened them. Post pandemic, it's weird haha. Last year it was just local bands playing in Aus, and the venues had capacity limits and it was kind of nice? Maybe I'm getting older, but it was nice to have personal space and be able to move around. Now that there are no limits and shows are selling out again, it can be a bit much being in the crowd 😅 especially when it feels like you can't move. I still love going to concerts but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels a bit weird in massive crowds now. Also same with buying tickets and merch for me, my band tshirt collection has grown so much the last two years 😂

Me too! I've seen: KISS Ghost Elton John Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons Kool and the Gang Former members of ELO ZENYTH A Meatloaf Tribute Act A Journey Tribute Band And it's been so wonderful! However expensive lol. But so many people I've been longing to see live and now I can cross it off my bucket list. (KISS it was my 6th time but nonetheless)

I saw Ghost bout 6 years ago I think? I wrote for my college newspaper and they comped us tickets to review the show and interview “a nameless Ghoul” (Tobias). He’s a charming guy and really kind, and I appreciated his vision. The show was okay.

I saw Ghost in Denver after the covid restrictions started lifting. It was in February this year and there was a heavy snowstorm that night. Due to covid fear and the weather there wasn’t nearly as many people at the show that I would have imagined. Tobias made sure to tell the crowd how much he and the rest of band appreciated all of us for coming out. My third time seeing them and they always put on a monster of a show, no matter the conditions.

I paid £55 to see Ghost earlier this year and spent another £200+ on merch and albums. I woudl happily do it all over again if it helps keep them going, the same with local businesses and causes close to my heart. As long as we support those who entertain, feed and look after us we can be happy and provide hapiness!

I am european (french) and I was sad to see much awaited shows not being packed (like My Chemical Romance and Ghost in Paris). But the ticket prices rose so much that most fans can't afford more than a couple of gigs a year. It's really sad when we just got the pleasure of live music back covid.

First time hearing an seeing Ghost tonight in my hometown of Youngstown Ohio, they played here a few years ago and did really good from what I heard from fans tonight. I was there to see Mastodon. They kicked some serious ass, I think there was only a handful of us that knew who Mastodon was. I was blown away by the Ghost fans. They were dressed as nuns, priest and skeletons, very high energy. It made me happy to see people out and smiling again. Ghost reminded me of a goth band that Disney produced. They were good, just not my cup of tea. I was happy to see people happy. That's all that matters.

@@swordmeister93 Wow man, that's a haul. I travelled from Boulder CO to Bonnaroo in 04. It's nice to have the Covelli Center in my backyard. We rode our mountain bikes last night. I've seen great shows at the venue. Beastie Boys, Tool, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, KISS, Cirques Du Soleil. I met Bill Burr there and saw a WWF event with my nephew. I was happy to see that there was alot of fans in attendance. I'm a huge supporter of happy people and last night there was alot of happy people dressed up like nuns, priest and skeletons.

I believe it. A few bands I follow announced they had to withdraw from touring Europe due to ongoing price and logistic issues. A bummer for sure!
@austenoverton12882 жыл бұрын
It also sucks because it creates a bit of animosity towards the US as a Brit because it seems as though tours happen more over there but when thinking about Tobias’ points you can see why bands are reluctant to come here due to the current economic conditions.

After covid in the Netherlands the prices also went way up. There's your reluctancy. Concerts should be available to all social classes, which is getting harder. The taxes on tickets are ridiculous and it will get worse, over here at least. Not only tickets , but also drink prices went up, which also will get worse.

2:20 As a service engineer, I disagree with you. It IS somebodies fault, it's the fault of the person in charge of servicing and repairs at that bus company. If the radiator has a leak, you swap it out with either a new or repaired radiator and send the leaking radiator to be repaired. If the leak is elsewhere, then you find the leak and replace hose clamps, hoses etc. until the leak has gone. It's a lot cheaper than replacing an engine because it has been damaged by overheating or even seizing solid.

I started going back to gigs early this year. Mainly small venues around London. There’s lots of great talent around. But the crowds are still small, I’ve seen some bands putting on great shows to like twenty or thirty people. I’m going to see a band called X Ray Love at Islington Academy2 next Friday and I really hope there’s a good crowd but honestly, if there’s more than about fifty that’ll be a result.

I think Tobias has a good point, the people getting angry at him dont see the point, we "normal" people have a 9-5 job, touring is a musicians 9-5 job and they have to tour, and with the current state of everything there is to many bands touring, but what they gone do.

He absolutely does and again, for musicians, CDs and downloads don’t pay anymore. Touring and merch or licensing are the main revenue source. So this is an issue where touring was always the best way for a band of Ghost’s caliber to make money. Everything else has essentially been greatly reduced. And the current situation puts that in danger.

My partner and I bought tickets for several shows this year we wish we felt we could have safely gone to see, e.g. Osees at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Sleaford Mods at the Teragram Theater. We're glad to pitch in to help support the bands in this shit time, hoping they may survive so they might be around again in the future, hopefully in a better time, but it damn it sucks. It's disappointing to miss these things and it depresses me because I consider this stuff to be part of who I am.

I agree, but there's something much bigger going on in the background. There's indications the so-called energy crisis is manipulated. Just prior to the early 2020 global lock down, dozens of CEO's and world leaders retired/stepped down. There's talk that the recent cancellations of shows are the precursor to another global lock down. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

For my kids and I, who love going to live gigs, it's almost impossible right now due to the cost of going to shows. It's expensive for bands to be on the road & local labor prices have gone way up, which has translated into some crazy ticket prices lately. Mid-level seats in Philly recently were $425 for My Chemical Romance & my daughter sent me a screenshot a couple of days ago of $550 per seat for Paramore in Georgia. Motion City Soundtrack set us back $75 for their club gig recently & that seemed like a bargain. Places are selling out though, so people are paying some of those prices.
