For real. The other map that messed me up in addition to this one was the one that had me end up killing Bayle before I even found the Dragon Communion altar. Didn't even know that Florissax was a character in the DLC, just showed up to find a Priestess Heart on the ground along with a weapon and figured it was like all the other Dragon Communion corpse stuff all over the place like the Stone Heart you get on the way up the jagged peak. (Just got back to the DLC area again on Journey 4, and actually met Florissax for the first time yesterday).

I just made sure to explore every bit of the map. I would always keep track of which areas I hadn't explored and that's how I ended up with every map piece. But I do feel like they should've put the ruins of Raoh map in the actual ruins cos that's where most people seem to end up first.

I love this new DLC map, but I felt it did a poor job of guiding you to where you should potentially go next. I killed Messmer right after Rellana but then that locked me out of NPC quests. But that’s where the game directs you to go next, but in actuality you’re supposed to head south after Rellana. In the base game, it does a better job of visually communicating where you should probably go next without being too hand-holding. Granted I know you can go anywhere at any time basically, but for someone like me, I’d rather play the game in its intended boss structure and not move world events too soon which is sadly what happened for me.

It's very stupid. It crosses over into design that makes no sense logically or mechanically just so it can be harder--or a bug/design flaw.

@@FunkyKong2112 Most of them are in areas where they can be led to a cliff, outcropping or rooftop that is perfectly level with the top of their head basket. Even the first one, you can lead it to the scorched ruins and climb up the path to the rooftops. The one on the road to Shadow Keep has a perfectly sized cliff face to the west. The one on the road from Bonny Village patrols right next to one by a spiritspring that leads up to it, almost like a tutorial. They also have a situational attack where they can jump up and punch at the edge of the cliff if it's the right height. Right outside of Shadow Keep where there's a destroyed one and some furnace visages there's a note that suggests hefty fire pots or furnace pots tossed into the basket is their weakness. You can kill them pretty efficiently with just the hefty fire pots (probably around 5). But some of them do an attack with like 20 homing exploding fireballs when they cant reach you with extremely long range that does absurd amounts of damage. Tossing fire pots into the furnace golems basket is a more effective weakness than a smith golems back weakspot. I would almost rather deal with the furnace golems.

@@nuhussl7 is this a troll? Hefty fire pots & furnace pots tossed into their head basket are furnace golems biggest weakness. 2 furnace pots or like 4-5 hefty fire pots kills it very fast. That's what furnace pots & furnace visages are for pretty much. There's a hint note next to a dead furnace golem in front of Shadow Keep where you can loot furnace visages that explains this. Almost every furnace golem can be found near or right next to an overlooking hill that you can throw pots from. They also have attacks for fighting you when youre above them. They can jump up in the air and do a swiping punch to try to hit you on a ledge or they spam homing fireballs. People are complaining bc if you stagger them and knock them onto the ground and then throw the hefty pot into the head it doesnt register for some reason.

the exploration and pace of the base game still gives it a slight edge for me. But the way the DLC map is designed is incredible and bodes well for whatever they have planned for the future. If they did a Bloodborne sequel in a similar format I'm pretty sure it would sell all of the copies.

​@robotdeniro-csgo5986 There is a LOT of empty space in quite a few areas of the DLC, which is what I think they're referring to. The map and the exploration in the DLC is still great, don't get me wrong. But it definitely feels very empty in quite a few spots.

@@ryanguay6092 Yeah, but thats not what max is talking about. The design of the map and how it is intertwined - it feels very much like an evolution of the base game. It took them until the dlc to figure out how an open world souls game should be designed which is one huge level with plenty of paths of the obvious and of the secret variety. The empty spaces had to be there btw. Keep in mind, this is a dlc with the game length of a 70 dollar game. Id much rather have them give us visually amazing places that are less dense than the main game than not getting those areas at all, making the overall map smaller.

I don’t see why being “Elden Ring 1.5” would be the reason it can’t win GOTY. If it’s the best game of the year then it is the best game of the year, there should but no other requirements to win GOTY.

It can't win GOTY because GOTY is for games released after the previous TGA. And this isn't a new game, it's a DLC. If you want to argue semantics about whether or not it SHOULD qualify, there's certainly an argument to be made. But the fact is it just does not qualify under TGA's current parameters.

It’s like releasing Shawshank Redemption again into theaters and then giving it an Oscar for best movie, best director, best actor. Elden Ring had its moment, it won plenty of awards as it deserves. The DLC is amazing, but I don’t agree that it should win game of the year again, for essentially doing more of the same thing again with a new map and some new boss fights. There’s a category for best on going game, and it can win that.
