LOVE ♥️ Steve! I have a bit of a thing about saving seeds, and this year I have accumulated about five one gallon jars worth of sunflower seeds! It started innocently enough... Five or six sunflowers became indoor greenhouse flowers when my adult son moved home to help me out. He plasticed in my pergola, and their seeds ALL sprouted. In April I found about fifty 3-4" sunflower plants! I transplanted them into my front yard, forming a fence to contain my two year old granddaughter who now lives with me. They grew to about 14'! And I have collected most of their seeds. Anyway... Steve, please get on KZbin! You have a marvelous presence, and a fresh wisdom that is soft on my ears. Jesse is awesome, but she's so southern. I'm up in south central BC, Canada, and I could sure get used to hearing you talk flowers. Thank you Jesse, for yet again introducing me to somethkng (someone!) I could make my new favorite. Eg chinese noodle beans!

Helen is pretty. The companionship is great for Hope. Cows should not be alone. Like goats, they are herd animals. Girls need someone to talk too. Kids don't count. Eventually you will have a herd of four. Not a bad start. The problem will be getting used to milking two or three cows. We usually have an East wind here, so having your front door facing East will take all of the heat out of your house in the Winter. All that stuff really is important. As for flowers I like dahlias, roses, day lilies, and carnations, but orchids and lilacs are my favorites.

Helen the cow added to your farm, cool! So Hope, Honey, and Helen are your cows names! Have a herd of Devin cows eventually. Start with the Jersey cows, cool! Nice that you have a friend Phil to cross the girls with or get a Devin bull from. Nice to meet Sunflower Steve from Wisconsin. I never get around to flowers myself. I love flowers but I just start the vegetables and that fills our inside seed starting greenhouses that are about 4 feet tall and have 5 shelves. I use trays on each shelf and then start some in bigger pots when they'll be bigger plants faster. I start the eggplants in bigger pots. I start 48 basil plants because I have a 4' x 4' square foot garden dedicated to it and parsley in the front four boxes so I start 12 of those plants too. It's my pesto box. Maybe I'll start flowers this year. I don't like to plant annuals because that makes it very expensive. I do buy a Fushia for myself for Mother's Day every year. I love my humming birds and they like Fushias. Thanks for this Jess, it's very inspiring. I even saved a bed headboard out of the garbage to make a "flower bed" and I've never used it yet and we have lived here 12 years now. Luckily the lady before us planted Iris, Lillies, Lilly of the Valley, and Clematis. At least those grow around here but I'd like to grow a greater variety and have more indoor blooms. We are lucky to have lilacs as well. Good luck with you flower bed planting. This is exciting.

I once had a house surrounded by Lilacs and they were in bloom usually on Mother's Day. The bees were so busy and didn't bother anyone. I used to like to sit on my porch and watch bees and hummingbirds while I had my morning coffee. ☕ Nice memories. 🌸🌻🌼🐝

Same here on the Loblolly Pines. I’m in Louisiana right at the tip of the boot. Georgia Pacific owns a lot of acres around me. I worked for Weyerhaeuser for several years. I cruised a lot of timber. So many people don’t understand the Pine rotation. When I was cruising timber, when the stand was 12-14 years old it was thinned to open the canopy so the sunlight could hit the ground and grow the trees straighter and bigger in diameter and could self prune. Then when the stand turned 16-18 years old they thinned again. A controlled prescribed burn was done to raise the ph level in the soil, with an even more open canopy the trees could have the best opportunity to grow taller and larger in diameter and by the time the stand turned 25 years old, they would clearcut, site prep and replant during the winter when the trees were dormant. Just thought I’d share the rotation of the loblolly pine with you just in case you are curious and didn’t know and haven’t Goggled it. Do you know if the land owner is planning on replanting?
