I remember this when it first came out. My group of friends and I were all lower middle class and very mixed. No matter what group he talked about we all laughed pointing at ourselves and each other, recognizing the truths in jokes and seeing some of it in ourselves. Nobody got offended. Instead we laughed at ourselves and each other and recognized the message. I miss the 90s.

My mom raised my sister and I as a single mom. Worked her ass off, never taking a cent from welfare. In the same building, we had plenty of Hispanic women with a ton of kids, on welfare. She could not stand any of them. What Chris Rock says here is dead-ass universal. All races can relate to this.

Humans might have genetic differences, but we homo sapiens are the only race alive. All the others are dead. Think of us humans like red foxes from different latitudes, environments and climates. They are all foxes but due to environment the average body size is different, tolerable climate socialization diet and what they can tolerate eating. Teeth size is different, paw size, ear size and eye size. But they are all foxes. Similar thing with humans.

When I was a kid I lived about a mile away from an area where literally only black people lived. A couple of my friends from school lived in the area and I tried visiting them at their homes a few times. Their parents were hard working, welcoming, friendly people. But I stopped going there because some of the most vicious, ignorant, self centered early stage thugs I've ever had the displeasure of running into in my life were always hanging around. I never had any serious trouble with them those few times, even though they focused on me immediately because I was white, but even at that age I could tell continuing to return to the area would be foolish. My friends disliked them too, so they came to my family's home routinely for years...great friends and memories.

Asia's comments upon getting stuck in the system are apt. I'm white myself but was on welfare in my 20's when I was totally messed up, and it got to the point where I basically forced myself off it without any security to try and move forward. I'm not against a social safety net for when people need it that is good, but imo the system shouldn't be there to act as your parent.

@Music Everyone is inherently lazy. The Welfare system makes this possible now. This probably wasn't the intention but it's clear now that living off the system is a serious problem in the world today.
@illuminahde
@illuminahde 2 жыл бұрын
@Music You're .05% of the population. Keep doing that and you'll continue to strive in your career choice. This is the same work ethic of CEOs. Most don't have the desire to be wealthy. It's why poor people play the lottery. They don't understand finances and they think wealthy people think about money all the time. Rich people love to think about money. Wealthy people have investment bankers and accountants handle their money. If you work that much then you can expect to be significantly more wealthy then most. It is, however, a sacrifice. I made it in my 20's but I chose to spend more time with my family the older I got. The issue is incentives. Some people can survive living poor and they don't care to better themselves. They dream but they don't plan. That's the issue with the Welfare system. It offers people the chance to be lazy. It's easy to judge them for this but why not just remove the incentive. At least make it temporary.

@@illuminahde I'm not. I grew up in the hood, and I learned that if you work hard, you can get a better life. No, I'm not talking about having a million dollar house and a yacht, I'm talking about not worrying about paying your bills, and having some nice stuff in a comfortable home. I've worked at LEAST two jobs for the last 40 years, and I'm doing better than I ever imagined I would. It's ALL about parenting. I had two parents that taught me to work hard, educate myself, and be a good person.
@illuminahde
@illuminahde 2 жыл бұрын
@@ffjsb I agree. Completely. I lived in section 8 myself growing up. I remember how everyone had nice cars, clothes, plastic on the furniture and big screen T.V.s. We didn't. My mom saved money to get us out of there. The issue I have is the incentive in the welfare system. Whether or not it was done purposefully is a debate but the outcome is still that people are raised in a system of handouts that is seen as perfectly normal. I agree that it's a mindset. The question is how do we get our community out of this mindset? I think we have to put limits on the time frame you can apply for benefits. I don't know how long but something. I think we should let it know that starting this year, the number of kids you have won't increase your EBT card money. I think we should offer tax breaks to couples that get married. Offer first time buyer house programs to married couples who make enough to leave the Welfare system. I know we gotta do something different right? We can't keep raising generations of kids in public housing and with single parent families like this.

I'm a new subscriber and I think you two are just adorable! I'm 60 years old so I'm allowed to make those kind of comments LOL. I love Chris Rock and this routine was just awesome. As you guys mentioned at the end, white people definitely have similar divisions among ourselves. And BJ you're right it ultimately has nothing to do with race, it has to do with ignorance and a lack of ambition. Ignorant and unambitious people can be found in all racial groups, we just don't always have as nasty a word as the n word to describe them. This reminds me, though, of when I was teaching a college course and the lesson for the day was on the language of racism. I asked my students to start calling out racist terms they knew for blacks and racist terms they knew for whites and I wrote the words on the chalkboard. My assumption of course was that there would be far fewer negative words for white people than for black people and this would illustrate my point. However, my plans were thwarted by one of my black students, who started listing all the negative words his grandmother had for white people.😊 It was quite a long list lol! I wish I could remember what some of those words were. But he certainly put me in my place for trying to be the PC white teacher. Anyway keep doing what you're doing I really enjoy your commentaries.

I started doing cable tv installs when I was 49, did that for almost a year. Crawling under houses, in attics, and climbing a 28 foot ladder to pull line from the pole to the house or reconnect their existing line. I went to fiber install. Again, crawling under houses, and running anywhere from 70 foot to almost 2,000 feet of fiber cable. Did that for almost a year. Now, I run a warehouse for Spectrum cable contractors and we cannot get people to work. People do not want to work after they got all that “free money” from the government! Fast food is paying anywhere between $12-$16 an hour, and they can’t get people in. The reason I commented, is Asia said she can’t stand it when able bodied people don’t want to work.

Friend of mine is on welfare. As part of it he gets medical coverage, pays like 10 bucks for the 700 or 800 dollars worth of psychiatric meds that allow him to function. If he makes more then 300$ a week at his job he loses that coverage. The system is totally a trap. Even if you want out sometimes your stuck.

This show made Chris an international success. This was the controversial joke that made it happen. They even made a short documentary on it. He strategically filmed it in DC… CHOCLATE CITY where black people are successful and gots their shit TOGETHER. He intuitively KNEW the empathy would go through the roof!!!!! Black people UNDERSTAND this. This situation has and been our burden for sooooo long. But you know we don’t like airing our “dirty laundry”!!!! Well Chris DID and it turned him into a mega comedian!!!!❤❤❤

They had 4 kids, her man has a good paying job, stays with her and their kids but has a separate P.O. Box. He brings in good money while she brings in $400+ in stamps and on section 8. They said it made more dollars and cents than getting married. Make ya wanna laugh but throat punch folks at the same time. Folks literally have made a career out of it. Hell my and her dude’s kids are grown now

Especially black people like the one's he worked with. Just had to ruin it for everyone!! Chis Rock, you're not only a stand up comedian, you're a stand up guy!! Respect & love to ya ❤ 😂😂❤ P.S. Oh, talking about able bodied people, black or white, that are able to maneuver themselves to make 10 kids but aren't able to work!! Like Chris said, stop having babies! But more babies equal more money & more foodstamps!! Sheesh!! 🙄🙄

You are correct. This could not be made today. But, luckily for us, it was made when comedians were allowed to be funny and allowed to tell the truth and guys like Chris Rock and George Carlin took full advantage of it and were funny as hell. Of course, there are a few Mel Brooks movies that fit into that category, too

I'm older so my pov is a little different but I remember as a kid asking my mom what a Nxxxxx was. She said "Oh, sweetie, they are lazy no good people who want everything for nothing." When I asked what they looked like so I could find them easily she said "Well, they are everywhere and they look like everyone so you just have to learn to avoid them once you learn to find them". I never really heard it directed at a specific color of people until I was at least 13. I've since had several as neighbors and breaking into my apartment while I was at work made me laugh when he talks about moving your valuables in during the middle of the night. Great reaction!

I grew up in an area where all you saw were Blacks & Hispanics. We had some White teachers but I didn't see any kids of any other race till high school. In our bldg, the Super's whole family was the entire 1st FL of 5 apartments per floor. You had 5 generations of women with naked kids & no fathers. None of the women ever worked a single day because the govt have them all they wanted. In the 60s, Pres. Linden Johnson created the The Great Society, which was the gov't welfare system. In the late 50s, Democrat Johnson led the party to defeat Republican POTUS, Eisenhower's effort to usher in civil Rights. When Johnson was POTUS, he hopes to defeat again. Between Dr. MLK demands for civil rights legislation & media depiction of non-violent Black people being attacked by clubs, dogs, & hoses, the public wanted it to end. Johnson gave us Welfare, but it's said he devised it as revenge for being forced to sign civil Rights laws that Republicans also wanted. That year Republicans had a veto-proof majority & he had no choice, but Johnson's revenge was welfare. Johnson was a known racist who felt slothy Blacks might be the only ones who'd flock to easy unearned money, & it's said he'd enslave Blacks for the next 200 years. History shows, people who'd choose unearned income comes in every color. It's sad what the Dem party has done to America. But the other thing we see is, it's not just Whites that now want us enslaved. Congress is represented by lots of non-whites who push gov't enslavement on us too.

Asia, you need to go way back to Richard Pryor or Lenny Bruce. Raw was Raw. Chris Rock has followed in the footsteps of real-talking legends. Eddie Murphy was one of the first of new "legends" of raw comedy. Cosby kept it clean on stage, but we all know his reality. Never the less, Cosby was brilliant. Go back, young ones.

"The system is set up for you to stay in the system." 100% true. The people who claim to be the champions of the poor need people to stay poor. And for the last 2 1/2 years, certain people needed to be told what to do and how to live...and if others didn't obey, they were "selfish".
