I understand this perspective and the message Russell is trying to give, but the moment Russell lost me was the pointless dramatic pointing at the sign, who would dramatically point at a sign when no one is watching to name the child they just abandoned? Then there’s the build up; the mum being mysteriously cloaked and whose face couldn’t be looked at. The hidden song in her soul Maestro spoke about. The ability to make it snow. Death + death = life (stupid idea imo), same vibe as multiplying any number by 0. There were enjoyable moments but it was such an anticlimax of an episode. I felt like the message of us making ordinary people important might’ve been a dig at religious people who worship prophets etc, and I think it’s a clever point, but it didn’t belong in this Doctor Who story.
@Adamairball6 ай бұрын
It was underwhelming for me too. They made Sutekh WAY TOO powerful, then WAY TOO weak to defeat him, and he also barely appeared in the episode. Sutekh's defeat was ridiculous! I could recreate Sutekh's defeat using my dog, my dog's leash, and my TARDIS pen holder. Ruby's mum being a random woman makes no sense. Why couldn't Sutekh see Ruby's mum? I know The Doctor said that by thinking Ruby's mum was important, he and Ruby made her important, but it's just ridiculous that someone like Sutekh couldn't see right through that and discover who Ruby's mum was. Why did the snow keep falling? What was causing it? What was The Carol of The Bells playing from Ruby's soul about? Why did Ruby's mum point at the road name as if someone was watching? I'm pretty sure no-one in 2004 was watching her do that. Did she see The Doctor and think that hecould name Ruby, so she pointed at the sign as a hint? Probably not, because she WAS pointing at The Doctor, and not at the sign. That's not even all of the questions we didn't have answered! It makes no sense.

My thoughts. Yes its a lot. Dont read if you dont want to: Not a terrible episode but a bit underwhelming. Perhaps we all got swept up in the fan theories and hype train but I was just hoping for more. Considering the build up of Sutekh's return in the previous episode, he felt a little underplayed in this episode. He was just kinda there. The threat wasnt so much Sutekh but rather his dust which just isnt the same. Instead of seeing Sutekh destroy the universe we got a Flux 2.0 Sutekh's obsession with Ruby's mother was random. He is a great god of death and he's on the edge of his seat wanting to know who Ruby's mum is. If it was that simple, just shove on a series of the Jeremy Kyle show and give Sutekh a cuppa. Sorted. His defeat was also a little rushed. The doctor just put him on a leash and took him for a walkies through the time vortex. All the while, this is reversing all of Sutekh's dusty death clouds. Very convenient. And the mystery around Ruby's mother. I actually dont mind that she's just an ordinary woman. Honestly, its probably better to make it less complicated but.... If Ruby's parents (and in turn, Ruby, herself) is just regular old human, why the hell could she make it snow? And why was there such build up of a big mystery across the series? Ruby's mum pointing at the road sign was lazy story writing. No one was even there to watch her point so why point at all? And again, to set it up like its going to be a part of the plot to just go "yh she was just aggressively pointing at a road sign". Underwhelming. The whole episode just left me a little unsatisfied. Hit and miss at times which sums up the whole series for me. Great ideas but a bit underbaked overall.

@under_score38296 ай бұрын
That point is a grain of sand in a desert of bollocks. The Doctor went to Pete’s World (twice), so did the ‘Dust of Death’ wash over Pete’s World too? At Darlig Ulv Stranden and London? Pretty lucky the Master didn’t dicover Sutekh when he cannibalized Tennant’s TARDIS into a Paradox Machine (and left it that way for a year). When Davros made the Reality Bomb, why didn’t Sutekh emerge and help him? Surely the “destruction of everything” would be a positive for Sutekh, no? When the Silence destroyed the TARDIS, did they destroy Sutekh? Why didn’t Sutekh make himself known then? The Cracks in time and erasing people’s personal history sounds like an even better outcome for Sutekh. Also, that means when Amy Pond ‘remembered’ the Doctor and TARDIS back into existence, she also saved Sutekh. Whoops. When the TARDIS materialized inside itself, does that mean Sutekh materialized inside himself? When ‘The House’ invaded the TARDIS back in Series 6 and the TARDIS’s soul vacated it, how did Sutekh not get exposed then? Surely the House would have sensed him. For that matter, why wasn’t the TARDIS’s soul ever aware of Sutekh? She really never noticed anything? Even after she was kicked out and brought back in? In the original Trenzalore timeline when the Doctor died and the TARDIS became his grave - what did Sutekh do after that? Was he still there just twiddling his thumbs? Speaking of Trenzalore, why didn’t Sutekh do anything for 900 years while the Doctor was stuck there? Seems like it could be a good time to take advantage of the war and spread death. When Capaldi’s TARDIS shrunk in Flatline, did Sutekh shrink with it? When the Time Lords confiscated Capaldi’s TARDIS after Face the Raven, did none of them discover Sutekh? With all of their technology and wisdom? When the Monks created their simulation, was Sutekh a part of it? They knew about the Doctor being blind from an adventure in a future time period that hadn’t happened yet but not an incident in Egypt that happened on Earth in 1911? Did the Kasaavin know about Sutekh when they were forcing their way inside the TARDIS? Why didn’t Sutekh intervene to stop the Doctor from stopping the Flux. Seems like Sutekh, Tecteun, and the Swarm wanted the same thing. Also, the Flux and the compromising of the Mouri severely messed with the space/time reality of the TARDIS. Did that affect Sutekh? If Sutekh planted a version of Sue Triad everywhere the Doctor landed, then where was Sue Triad in Wild Blue Yonder? I guess the Not-Things weren’t aware of Sutekh? Also, I love the casual mention of Skaro dying. It would have been genuinely interesting if the Doctor had to team up with the Daleks themselves just to stop Sutekh. Or the Toymaker for that matter.
@toyloliSpare6 ай бұрын
Eh. I'm willing to believe there will be a nail in that plot eventually. Although I gather the snow was meant to be a side-effect of the time-window. They did say that this technology could alter the past (they just didn't have the means to do so) and a tardis, a nexus event and all that could count. What I don't understand is how this connected to Gremlins trying to eat her? Were they servents of Sutekh? Nah. 100% Ruby is coming back next season, her story ain't over yet.

It didn’t cause positive conversations with my party of ppl afterwards similar to your group's reaction at the end. The Atmosphere on leaving was that of a wake compared to the excitement at the interval. I'm still trying to comprehend that explanation for Ruby & the lack of explanation for the snow, a 15 year old girl wearing a hooded cloak from The Traitors & pointing at a street sign in front of no one in the vicinity in 2004 to name her child 🤯, Maestro calling Ruby "very wrong" & having a xmas song deep within her soul. I'm still in shock! I knew Sutekh would be tricked so thats by the by but if you have had such a build up for Ruby & got that I can tell you it felt so flat. The impact of Ruby briefly leaving did not feel earned after the many missing adventures we did not see & the 6 month time gap we heard about in "The Devils Cord" The ludicrous explanation that Ruby had been travelling for 6 months before landing on her very first planet in "Boom" is now so disjointed. This felt like a good first draft finale to be worked & developed on by RTD that he ran out of time to complete. The 8 episode run goes some way to explaining so many rushed decisions but they are brushed away narratively over Rubys arc. It's the Ruby stuff that brings the whole ep down for me & it breaks my heart I feel this way 💔 Do not get me started on the numerous 4th wall breaks being completely unexplained either..

I agree with your point this felt like a first draft of a script as so many of the episodes have this series. I thought they had a script editor???? Maybe he was too scared to say to Russell T Davie" none of this makes sense mate let's start again". I think Russell T Davies thinks he can write any old crap and people will love it and thinks he is a god. He needs to go and we need new blood in the series with people who can actually write good science fiction and please can we have a mix of writers and story lines that make sense with a proper conclusion

Problems with ruby’s mom being normal average person: - Snow and music? - What did maestro mean when he said there was something wrong with her? - Why was the mom “beyond a glitch and shadowed” - Why did the memory of the doctor regarding the mom change? - The time window required the power of Europe to power up and was broken, it turned on magically when ruby walked in and then stayed on throughout the whole episode?!?!! - Why was the time window answering the questions? General plot holes: - why did the doctor need to get a spoon when the memory tardis was full of random metal? - so the doctors entire plan was based on the tardis not being moved/rotated? - if the doctor,Mel and Ruby were the last people alive in the universe why did sutekh care about the mom if she was already dead? - if a new Susan is created 73 yards away from tardis when the doctor lands somewhere then how can the mom of a character be a Susan?!?! - how does death to death bring life? Doesn’t really make much sense. - why was that random woman alive? Why did the doctor land there? These are some I noticed after first watching, if I rewatch I’d probably find a few more. Edit: Just rembered didn’t in boom the ambulance was unable to say who the mother was? Wouldn’t it know cuz of the dna test??? Might need to rewatch boom.

I kinda liked all the tools they used to beat sutekh were introduced in the 60th. The gloves, the rope and the whistle they got from the memory tardis. But yeah, doctor who finales tend to be underwhelming, so I just stop asking too much of them and just ride the feels. And it wasnt just a "leash", it was the combination of a memory imbued rope and the weightless gloves, so I can buy it. For me what killed sutekh was really the memory imbued leash but the doctor needed to drag him across the vortex all around so his "death" could "whisper" life into those places where the dust hit.

I have a question about Suetekh with the Tardis. In the 60th anniversary part when 15th copied the Tardis, was Suetekh connected to both the Tardises or was he only connected to the original Tardis and did the 15th have the original Tardis and was 14th’s Tardis the copied Tardis. It’s just a thought I had.

Am I the only one really disappointed with the episode, considering who Ruby’s mother was, was the arc of the series the payoff was very disappointing. And if sutekh destroys every world the dr had visited, surely he would have heard about it. And if he destroyed earth in the past how could he destroy it in the now. And considering who Ruby’s mother turned out to be why was it snowing all the time, was that explained. Last week 9/10 this week 3/10. Ps I had to go for a longer than expected pee so might have missed some explanations.
@doritofan10026 ай бұрын
Not the only one. The payoff for the showdown between the doctor and sutekh was so weak. They put a dog leash on him and lynched him to death with the tardis. ruby’s mom being human makes little to no sense unless her dad turns out to be the reason behind ruby’s “abilities”. That could be interesting but I won’t hold my breath.

It's weird, the highs of this episode were as insane as I thought it would be, and the lows were just average Doctor Who padding without really adding much. I think Sutekh was a smidge wasted here with only a few great moments, and the way the day was saved came out of nowhere. I believe Sutekh could've been saved for Ncuti's final episode, built up over his whole run, very well foreshadowed, and leave the finale to season 1 as a truly personal and intimate story, maybe having some other villain take Sutekhs place.

Let me get this straight... The big twist is.. Her mother decided to abandon her daughter but rather than leave a note saying 'This is Ruby, for some reason I don't feel like keeping her' she decided to point at a random sign where no one, not even CCTV could see her to choose her daughters name? This is by far the worst writing I have ever seen in Doctor Who and probably in any media I have ever consumed. They answered nothing and the defeat of the villain made no sense, all of which they tried to cover up with the most cheesy morals of 'normal is special' and 'life beats death' neither of which remotely make sense in the context of the story....
@martinfoote82246 ай бұрын
If the Doctor could go to 2045 cos he'd been there before so it was fixed...why couldn't he go to any other place he'd been before and get as many spoons as he felt he needed? And you really can't beat the big bad with a magic rope you happened to find 5 minutes earlier.
@LabradorIndependent6 ай бұрын
Completely agree with most of your thoughts here. The one word that comes to mind for me is "inconsequential." Nothing that happens in this episode seems to actually matter. Sutek and his end-of-the-universe empire of death? Completely reversed. Ruby's mother? Just a normal woman. The mysterious pointing? Road sign. 73 yards? Perception filter...a reveal that is essentially meaningless, story-wise. Mrs Flood? Who knows, maybe find out next season. Let's also remember that the reveal about Ruby's mother came *after* they defeat Sutek and save the universe. Narratively, they're unrelated. All that's connecting them is that Sutek wanted to know who she was? Thing is we're not given any reason for why. If Sutek had *a reason* to want to find out who Ruby's mother was, if it mattered somehow, that would've worked, and the reveal that actually there's nothing important could've had something to do with his defeat. I then don't know how you do the reset-button ending in a satisfying way, but in any case this wasn't it.

See ive thought about this and figured out a way they could have answered all our questions and added in some spectacular cameos 😭 Sutekh has been latched onto the TARDIS ever since the 4th Doctors adventure with sarah Jane Smith all the way back then, so everytime the TARDIS has landed he's rolled out a Susan twist to effect that time zone, Now it would make sense that everytime Sutekh has done that, that's been a fixed point for the Doctor as he can't undo all of his adventures, so when he finds out he can use the memory TARDIS (which should have been teased alot more in the series aswell as in Tales of the TARDIS), Thee Doctor should have then used the Memory TARDIS to pin point (using all the stories the Memory TARDIS has collected) to find the exact moment that Sutekh latched himself to the TARDIS (Back in 1974) The reason for not killing The Doctor when he had the chance (because he's had alot of chances has our Sutekh) is because the Doctor is part of the TARDIS, if you kill the Doctor, you kill the TARDIS (established in turn left) and because the TARDIS is key to Sutekhs entire plan, Sutekh should have been trying to trap the doctor instead and take over his mind (so when the Doctor runs and away, Sutekh tries to get to Mel to trap the Doctor, this story arc still happens except Mel could have been summoned to the present to Guard the TARDIS from Unit) The Doctor, Ruby Sunday and Mel by his side, use the Memory TARDIS, find the psychic interface that allowes them to revisit and alter the memory imprint of past events without changing the actual timeline (because Using the Power of a Memory TARDIS has the ability to do that) though theyve got to be had to be precise. A single misstep could lead to the complete unraveling of the Doctors entire timeline since 1974 (So v high stakes). So when they go back to the Pyramids of Mars episode they have to tread carefully as not to bump into the 4th Doctor and Ruby (what would have been really fun is if they somehow editited to the Tales of the TARDIS episode so that while watching the orginal episodes you catch glimpses of The 15th Doctor and Ruby in the background) (as its a memory altering TARDIS this would fit in so well) We could get super intense moments where the Doctor is stressing to Ruby how "Eye of the needle) careful they have to be Carefully, they approached the scene where the past Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith were battling Sutekh. As the pivotal moment approached, the Doctor used the Memory TARDIS to create a temporal echo, diverting Sutekh's essence away from the real TARDIS and towards the Memory TARDIS instead. But Sutekh, sensing the change, fought back. The Doctor's then realises Sutekh knows of this disepction, has to Use the mollecular Rope to Tie Sutekh to the Memory TARDIS, Sutekh was weak after the 'Pyramids of Mars' and that's the only reason he isn't able to break free, the Doctor then takes the Memory tardis into the raw heart of the time Vortex, somthing the Memory TARDIS can't quite withstand, but using Ruby's Memory of the ship (and her apparent enhanced psychic abilities because of the TARDIS) She begins to remember hearing the TARDIS as a baby, and as they're in the heart of the vortex the Memory tardis amplifies this Memory across all of time and space, (also using Ruby's preexposure to the time window and a butt ton of atron energy) now that's why whenever Ruby reflects on that Memory, it snows, because the power of that memory has been cascaded throughout time itself (which is why that Memory is so powerful) The struggle is intense. Sutekh's power is beginning to surge, threatening to overwhelm the Memory TARDIS and the memories the doctor is using to hold the TARDIS together. But the Doctor, with his indomitable will, pushed through. With a final burst of energy, he sealed Sutekh within the Memory TARDIS. Weaving him into the fabric of that TARDIS Sutekh is trapped in the Memory TARDIS. He can't affect the real timeline anymore. But it wasn't over yet. The Doctor knew that as long as Sutekh existed, even within the Memory TARDIS, he still posed a threat. The only way to truly end his reign of terror was to destroy him within the Time Vortex itself. As the Doctor is setting up the TARDIS to disintegrate, the Memory TARDIS presents him with a large Glass Vial full of bubbling liquid The Doctor initiated a collapse sequence. The Memory TARDIS starts to disintegrate, its structure unraveling, the Doctor's memories cascading throughout time, along with the memories of Ruby Road, (again why they have so much power) Sutekh's essence, once powerful, began to waver. Without the stability of the Memory TARDIS, he couldn't withstand the Vortex's energy as he isnt in a physical body, Sutekh burns up and his form disintegrating into nothingness. In the present, the TARDIS, no longer under Sutekh's influence (as time has changed), bursts into life. Acting on its own accord, it locked onto the Doctor's location. As the Memory TARDIS collapsed, the real TARDIS materialized around him and Ruby, reabsorbing the remnants of the Memory TARDIS, The Doctor holding aloft the vial of Huon Particles giftsd to him by the memory TARDIS, that summons the TARDIS to the Doctor from the heart of the vortex, and thus saving them in one swift motion, we know it can do this because of wild blue Yonder Then the whole Ruby's mam situation could have been settled after the fact, and the reason we couldn't make out her face is because when Ruby was remembering in the time vortex she accidentally and inadvertently caused the TARDIS's perception filter to shrowed the memory of her mams face, and because the Woman was standing "73 yards" away from them at time (this is also why 73 yards is as important as it is) so now factoring that in, the Doctor using the TARDISs psychic interface and now boosted memory powers from the absorbed memory TARDIS manages to undo the Perception filter that has been effecting Ruby's mam ever since that moment, thus allowing them then find her easily as the entire time before, every element of Ruby's mam was inadvertently being hidden from everyone because of the Perception filter mishap back in 2004,

I was definitely a little disappointed in the finale, it felt like Russel was like "And this happens.... cause i say it does" i wouldn't say its bad, just underwhelming and not executed in a satisfying way. Thankfully its not such a let down to ruin the rest of the season for me. Id rate it above Space Babies and Rogue, which are the only two episodes i didn't like, but below 73 yards and Dot and Bubble, which are the only episodes i loved. As much as i could complain about things not fully making sense, at least this has been a solid season after multiple years of bad DW. Im still looking forward to season 2, just maybe not as excited as i could have been about it. I do also feel that, while i do enjoy the Doctor being more expressive with their emotions, they did kinda overuse it. By the time he was crying and screaming over a dead universe, there was just no punch left too it. The Doctor crying should really be left for especially big and terrible moments imo.

Ruby smashing the screen to distract him and using the powerful rope was a great idea. As for the finale scenes with Rubys mum, this really hit me hard in the feels. I was adopted at birth and looked for my mum for a year or so before getting to meet her, its the most emotional moment of my life, meetingmher that first time, her crying and me hugging her. She was made to give me up, 1981 she was 19, from a Catholic family and her unmarried and single. They felt shame because of religon telling them it was wrong. The Ncuti Gatwa/Russell T Davies version of the Doctor is unbelievable, this series hasn’t worked for me one bit. Having watched Dr Who from the very first episode on the 23rd of November in 1963, I’ve seen the character change allot over the years and could still enjoy the series. I must confess I’ve not really been a fan of Russell T Davies or Chris Chibnall’s versions of the Doctor. For me, and I don’t think I’m alone, the Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa eras have departed so much in quality of story and character development that I no longer feel invested in Dr Who, and I guess it’s time to say goodbye and remember how I felt as a nine year old back in 1963. As RTD or was it Ncuti Gatwa that said, ‘‘you’ve had your fun, now it’s someone else’s turn’’.

Just some hypothetical thinking. If anything about Ruby and her mother explains the snow and music even though she was human, it could be Sutekh. Think of it as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Sutekh imparted importance on Ruby and her mother and the moment on Ruby Road. His power focused and made the moment raw and powerful, because to him it was. He had to find out how he was seen. This could also explain why Maestro was so aghast at the raw power of the song and moment as it could be directly tied to Sutekh, which is something they wanted nothing to do with. But this would then require that even someone as powerful as Sutekh could have been, mistaken.

I was seriously disappointed… We didn’t Sutekh in his mask, the Doctor just sent him back in the vortex. They changed the time corridor from the multicolored lights to the new one. Took a page out of Spider-Man NWH when they ripped reality open. “I have to become a monster”. No, you are destroying a monster that just wiped out the entirety of life. I remember when someone would talk back to the doctor and Leela would threaten them 😂😂😂 Now the doctor would cry and say “oh no babes you can’t do that”. Yeah well Jodi played a more intelligent and interesting time lord then Ncuti. Unfortunately too because I was really looking forward to how charming he is and his take. But now that Russell has stated that the Message for LGBT is more important to push then the quality of the story or plot. I mean Alex Kingston and Eccelsten would agree 🤷🤷

Not sure why they even chose that villain if they where going to say the older one was "cultural appropriation".

I don't think they retconned Sutekh being the God of Death. Sutekh was a powerful Osiran that wished to destroy everything, and could. After his defeat in Pyramids of Mars he's been in the Time Vortex clinging to the Tardis and evolving. I assumed that had elevated him from a powerful man, to a powerful being. He's not a God in the normal sense of Doctor Who, but he has the power to do be considered one. He seems a bit different from the other "Gods". Toymaker has to be challenged in a game. Trickster has to make a deal. Maestro has to be summoned. The Mara was a gestalt entity that had to slowly take control of another being. Satan and Abaddon were trapped in supernatural pits. Sutekh is considered a God because he is just more powerful than any other God. He can just show up and kill everyone, and did. He hid because it meant he could evolve and then place acolytes at each place The Doctor went to so he could make his killing of the universe happen quicker than it would have if it were just him. He wasn't trapped, he didn't need some themed thing to happen so he could appear. He's the God of Death because he _became_ the God of Death.

I was genuinely confused as to what actually killed Sutekh, like what? I thought they were gonna do something clever like maybe they have to use the fact that the places the doctor has been are in stasis, so he has to enter his own time stream and take Sutekh to a place he already exists and get caught in his own dust. And yeah that doesn’t make him seem threatening whatsoever, but at least it would be an explanation!

defeated the worlds most powerful god with a fucking bunjie cord. SO SO BAD
@kevinpoole62336 ай бұрын
no they defeated him by sending him into the voltex again, cord was used to assist them to do that
@brettrigby22266 ай бұрын
@@kevinpoole6233 they used a cord and a fking spoon. it was bad writing; Its a result of only having 8 episodes to a season instead of like 10-14 to actually TELL a story. Thats how its done now, Launch a season with fewer episodes because they still get paid by the network and the only people actually being shafted is the fans.

The "kind woman" character I 100% agree with you, far too random. We could've have had a former companion or character return. Madame Vastra even, to help the doctor in this act. I felt very let down. This is the season finale. We expect big surprises, and RTD seemed to have forgotten this.

I like the Ms. Flood mystery part at the end. I am hoping we get to see who she is next time.

Sutek kinda got physically manhandled by a Human & The Doctor with just a rope.

absolutely no wow factor. After the build up of The Legend of Ruby Sunday, the Empire of Death is absolute sh'$#t!

I reckon the finale could be way better if they just made it a 3 part finale

The problem with hyping and fan theories and spending a whole series then a whole week of anticipation is that we ultimately will be disappointed. They should have dropped both episodes together or done a whole feature length finale. I think it would have hit different. The pacing was off, unit fell too quickly in terms of build up for me.

so many issues, they took away any emotion and impact of the doctor being brought to tears, by showing him crying in every episode, they treated it like a filler episode with a full reset at the end even the guy who died in the last episode coming back, the 13 year old genius cannot do maths, we know ruby is 19 and he says your mom is 35 so she had you at 15, they could have just made her 34. it makes no sense they needed to go to 2046 to get the dna info when after the reset unit already had the dna info so adding the other full reset from 73 yards was pointless

Okay. I have a question as I may have forgotten, Ncuti's Doctor hit the Tardis to create a duplicate for himself. Fourteen keeps the original, right or am I remembering wrong? If so, did Sutekh just hop on Fifteen's Tardis? Did he also split? Is there a Sutekh out there still attached to Fourteen's or is it just timey wimey stuff? I did enjoy this episode a lot, but i do realise it created a lot more questions.

It was brought up in the episode that Ruby's mum leaving the scene of teh church and pointing was pointing to the name of the Road, Ruby Road, to name her.

Im really struggling to understand any positives about this episode. Ive been defending this series since it started but theres nothing to defend here. Bro put sutekh on a lead and took him on a walk like holy sh*t wtf. So much build up throughout the series and most of it was just wasted on the "ah you thought that was gonna happen".

Did think thik this was bad .I mean Sutekh was dealt with to easily .Also I feel Rubys mum thing would you have been ok but Russel contanltly suggested she was special maid her not being important a anticlimax’s .
