Stand By Me was the intro to Kpop for MANY 2nd gen fans, especially for those who started with kdramas. Boys Over Flowed was THAT drama. People still get shocked to know that SHINee sang this OST all the way back in 2008. I personally know many Kpop fans realizing years later that their actual first Kpop song is a SHINee song. XD

Key is one of the textbook examples of a TRIPLE THREAT. His singing might not hit as hard as Jonghyun, dancing might not appeal as Taemin, might not be the main rapper of the group, but if he is given anything you don't have to worry about it. He can nail the high note, he can execute the hardest dance, he can flow the heck out of a rap line. Today's term is an all-rounder.

I can't wait until you react to one of their concerts, an entire concert, that's when you will finally have no doubts about loving SHINee, all of their songs! They experimented a lot back in the day but those experiments are what built the industry, if it hadn't been for groups like SHINee kpop would look different now, if still existed. Also we must keep in mind the timing, what was happening when it was released, what was the trend, etc...

I loved the connection you drew between Lucifer and Don't Call Me--that was my immediate thought on hearing Don't Call Me, so I'm glad I'm not alone! Lucifer is one of my top five SHINee songs, but I also really enjoy that more intense feel and beat, so I don't feel as bad that their vocals aren't as prominent. Though I do agree that they have fantastic vocals, and it's a shame they're not spotlighted as much early on.

In the "Lucifer" MV the SHINee members don't have superpowers, but the "smoke" or "light trail" you see is supposed to represent the aura of a girl who has devilish powers like Lucifer, who is trying to possess them and take over their lives. As the English lines in the song say, "Loveaholic, robotronic ... her whisper is the Lucifer." (They are using auto tune because they are supposed to be "robotronic"-ly controlled by the girl who is "The Lucifer." So the auto tune is meant to make them sound robotic.) In other words, the woman or girl they are talking about is so desirable that she is like Lucifer and you have to use all your willpower just to resist her wiles. In the MV you see them trying to fight against Lucifer's powers and resist her attempts to try to make them bend to her will, etc. That's why in the choreography you see all the robotic moves because they are showing how "Lucifer" is trying to control them like a robot -- for example, they put their wrists together like they are being handcuffed to show how she is trapping them. And they vibrate to show how they are being manipulated by "Lucifer" and they are trying to resist her powers, etc. (FYI: That vibration you saw them do is 100% them actually shaking like that, there aren't any camera tricks. If you pay attention when they perform Lucifer live, you will see them do that exact same thing. :D) LOL we have no idea why they had to be dancing in front of a sports car, but that was kind of an iconic thing that Kpop companies did back then in a lot of their MVs, The group would dance around a fancy car to show off their coolness and to give the video a more futuristic, expensive looking aesthetic. "Lucifer" was released in 2010, so this was just the look that a lot of MVs had back then, in part because everyone was following SHINee's lead. Just take a look at TVXQ, Super Junior, Infinite or 2PM MV, etc. from around that time and you will see a similar look and style. SHINee was setting trends in the industry with 'Lucifer." I'm not sure why people are often so thrown by their hairstyles and outfits in this MV. :D I think they are actually all pretty cool for doing something different that sets them apart from everyone else in the industry. And that is what makes SHINee legends and why "Lucifer" is such an iconic song and dance.You're not going to remember a group or a song if they look and sound the same as everyone else, you remember them for standing out and not being afraid to be unique. SHINee are also known for never being afraid to experiment with everything they do, including their style, and as the fashionista and stylist of the group, Key is always looking for ways to be unique, so his head was really shaved on the one side. What you see is his hair was bleached blond on the side and then shaved down to his scalp. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. That's why Key's style is often just straddling the edge of outrageous, but somehow always manages to look cool. Fun fact: I think one reason why Minho's hair is so short at this time is because their previous comeback was with their song "Ring Ding Dong," and all the members had pretty long, shaggy hairstyles. However, Minho has never liked having long hair. So, I think for "Lucifer" Minho decided to rebel and go really short. This was also the era where Taemin had long hair and it made him one of the most popular of the members at the time, especially with their Japanese fans. The Japanese culture really embraces men with long hair and the members said that he was one of the most popular at the time because of his style. Taemin with long hair is so iconic and many in the fandom were really sad when he eventually cut his hair. So, in this MV, Taemin had just turned 17. Onew and Jonghyun are 20 and Key and Minho are 18. With SHINee's experimental concept, nothing they do will ever be like anything they have ever done before and that includes all the songs on each album. Every song and MV will be completely different from each other with a whole different, look and style every time. Whenever SHINee releases something new, the only thing we expect is that it will be a brand new sound, look and dance style that we have never seen before. That's why their discography is so diverse and why they are able to continue to stay relevant even after almost 14 years. If you want to see where SHINee truly shines, if you haven't yet, you have to check out their iconic performance of "Lucifer" Live in concert. This is a perfect example of how you can tell they are singing live and killing it every time. SHINee doesn't need auto tune, and if you hear them perform the song live, they often don't use it. And the song itself is very complicated with the songs wide range of notes and flow. Many amateurs have thought "Lucifer" looks like one of SHINee's more simple songs and dances. But the minute they try to sing the song and/or dance the choreography, they soon discover that it is way more complicated than they thought. It only looks and sounds simple, because SHINee makes it look that way. It's funny because when they came to meet SHINee to start the practice, Jonghyun asked them why they chose this song of all songs, and they said because it looks manly and they thought it was fairly easy to cover. SHINee's "Lucifer" dance practice was the very first dance practice video ever released specifically for fans. SHINee is the group that started the trend and they are why dance practice videos are even a thing today. :D It was the very first dance practice video to go viral. Back then dance practice videos were filmed for the group and artists to watch to help them remember the moves and to fix mistakes, etc. They weren't intended for a mass audience. But SM realized that fans were starting to try and copy SHINee's choreography and they decided to film a dance practice and release it to the public. SHINee's dance practice videos became so popular that other companies and groups started to do the same and show off their choreography by releasing dance practices too.

"Hello" was released in 2010 -- 2 years after their debut. SHINee's look in this MV is totally the boyfriend look. The whole aesthetic of the MV is supposed to give them a cute, approachable boyfriend image.The story is how they are trying to work up the courage to say hello to the girl they like and to ask her to be their girlfriend. :D Jonghyun is sitting on the step waiting for the girl to come home and he has a gift in a box, Key has a couple ring (not a ring for a marriage proposal -- a ring you give the girl you are dating symbolizing that, to borrow from an old fashion term, you're "going steady"), Onew has flowers, Taemin -- because he is only 17 in this MV -- has that plushy that he is decorating for the girl he likes and Minho has a giant teddy bear in the passenger seat of his car. LOL yep, it's a pretty simple story about just being brave enough to say hello and confess your feelings. Fun fact: We don't need to know who is on the other side of the door because we are supposed to imagine it's us who they are coming to see. Shawols are SHINee's girlfriends and they are trying to work up the courage to say hello to us. LOL So in this MV, Onew and Jonghyun were 20, Key was 19, Minho was 18 and Taemin was 17. Jonghyun with that little girl is so precious. If you want to see more of SHINee with little kids, if you haven't already, you should check out the reality show SHINee did called "Hello Baby." It was a show where the members of SHINee spent several weeks raising a little 3 year old boy and they were supposed to be his surrogate "Appas" (fathers). It's extremely cute and you can find episodes of the show with English subs on KZbin. All the members of SHINee are actually really great dad material and they all have a soft spot for little kids -- although little children kind of make Onew nervous sometimes, LOL. You should also see Minho when he spends time with little kids, it will make your heart melt. Also Taemin doesn't really sing much in stand by me probably because his live vocals was very unstable still. I remember that he starts getting lines in 2009 on Juliette and some in RDD, becomes more present in 2010 in Lucifer... definitely gains lines by Hello. But when they did lives he was still very unstable and got notes wrong from time to time. There's a clip of Taemin around the Lucifer era where he sings live sitting down with all of them for a 100% live band thing and he was very nervous about it. He gets through it perfectly fine, but you can tell he's still very unsure about his singing at this point. Tbh it's around this era that things start to change for him... Happy seeing all of SHINee

There are many versions and live stages of Lucifer I hope you check out eventually (like the RDD+Lucifer SWC5 stage or an old Lucifer rock version stage where Taemin gets on the electric guitar and Minho gets on the drums for a bit). Hello is probably their cutest Korean MV of all. Taemin and Minho slowly getting more vocal lines. Stand By Me is still one way people get introduced to SHINee with how big of a drama Boys Over Flowers is, it's amazing, but sometimes people also don't realize it is SHINee who sings it. Also, Minho and Taemin don't have any actual lines in Stand By Me aside from the chorus when they're all singing together, which I think is a bit of a shame, it would've been nice to even give them at least one line each. Another one of their OSTs that isn't as well known as Stand By Me is Green Rain (from the drama The Queen's Classroom) and there's a cute MV to it as well, but I guess time-wise it would fall closer to the Misconceptions (Dream Girl/Why So Serious) era. "Stand By Me" is one of the most famous OST songs from one of the most famous K-dramas of all time, Boys Over Flowers, from 2009. This is a song that was originally sung by SHINee specifically for the drama. (Less than a year after debut, and SHINee was chosen to sing one of the main track songs, for one of the biggest dramas at the time -- which over the years has become one of the most viewed and well known K-dramas worldwide. Just another groundbreaking thing that SHINee has been involved in ;D) If you watch Boys Over Flowers with Lee Minho and Goo HyeSun you will hear SHINee singing this song many times throughout the drama. "Stand By Me" was part of the early days when Taemin wasn't given very many lines in SHINee's songs because his voice was still developing and changing and he was still learning how to sing. That is why you don't see him much in the live performance, because he really has very few lines, if any, in this song. And because this isn't one of their dance tracks, he doesn't have a whole lot to do during this stage, so there wasn't a lot of reasons for the camera to focus on him.

Lucifer was my introduction to SHINee and kpop. I heard it in a tv show and loved it so much that I looked it up and 4+ years later here I am!

12/19/2022 Have you seen from Shinee world V concert the song Romeo &Juliette? No dance, just singing. It’s a vocal mesh of excellence. It’s the last song from the concert. it’s really great Jonghyn vocals along with all the members. They are truly live performance champs!

Some of SHINee's songs are very hard to take at first, but god damn it there's always something of them that keeps playing in your head. So, you have to give the song another and other chances. That's when you get addicted to it. It'd happened to me a few times before I started stanning them.

Their live performances of Lucifer are the best and the reason I fell in love with the song. Also, SHINee started the dance practice video trend with their video of Lucifer and was the first Kpop song to have complex and varied choreography. Actually, I like Lucifer more than RDD😆 The dance choreography really impressed me a lot, and also TAEMIN’s style in the MV looks so unique that makes me want to know more about him. I love this song since I heard it first time 10 years ago, and I still love it now❤️

i'm sorry but key's lucifer hairstyle is one the coolest idol's hairstyles i've ever seen and barely no one can pull it off as great as him. in fact, i think he can pull off any kind of hairstyle. i can't recall him having a bad hairstyle. also taem's long hair? fantastic! can't say the same about the other three though lmao. of all the millenium-y themed mvs in that era, only lucifer ages well for me while the others just don't. their outfits are just on point. and like some who have commented before, didn't dig the song until i saw the jaw-dropping live performance. rdd + lucifer in swc v is d bomb!

"They" didn't do it to Key :) He did it to himself. He wanted to shave the side completely off, but was persuaded to only cut it really short and bleach. Also most of SHINee are Christian themselves, so you shouldn't be too worried about their songs :)

You can see in other songs Minho rap xame first or like in atlantis or dcm at middle. Not always at the end but it's most comon to be later Lucifer was the 1st song I heard and it grew to become my favourite because of it. Also I think Im the only one who likes the style in MV. 14:30 it was quite common for kpop songs in that era to have a rap 3/4 into the song! Kpop is very formulaic especially back then.

Knowing SHINee's religious backgrounds and over all personalities I gave Lucifer a try and I felt the same fears, but SHINee are good men with no bad intentions. I think the aong is fun and is always better live. You should see the 2010 SHINee World tour where they use lazer arm gloves and shine over the roof of the building with the added bridge of confusing english.... it will most definitely make you laugh 🤣 It goes like this... Even though RRD was my introduction to shinee. I was sold on Lucifer. I think most of the songs of the same age didn't age well, they are very..interasting.. well lets say K-pop was still finding its colours. It was just before the golden age and that was when kpop really started to show what it meant to be kpop. Lucifer though, stood out at the time of realise and Shinee was not a sweet cuties anymore. (But then they did Hello hahahah and they were back being cute.) The hair styles are also not shocking for the time. A lot of questionable moments happened there. I think 2010 is an fun year in kpop, it was like the entire industry was in their puberty, it was in line with all that was happening.

I can't pick who has the worst hair in this video (Lucifer) I swear :D Key has the Skrillex, Jonghyun looks like hay (Although he is otherwise very good looking here) Taemin looks like one of those puppies with the bangs that can't see :D Jinki and Minho are better, but damn, not by much :D I love the song tho! Probably one of my favorites. That long Jjong note, and speed! Even the electronics. Everything about it is my thing! The rock version of it is sooo satisfying! Also, it was on the show Lucifer too, I remember liking the song when the show was going on but didn't even check. I could've been a Shawol sooner haha First dance practice video is of it too. Shinee being trendsetters. I definitely didn't expect the lyrics were about a toxic/abusive relationship when I first heard the song. Hello is just a nice song
