@@Lady.Fern. don't give up on doing it by hand. A loss of mobility does not mean you can't do it. It just means you have to do it differently. My grandmother had one hand she would knit, crochet, sew, she could swim, and she even did monkey bars as a kid. I'm not saying it won't be extremely hard and frustrating and slower. But I'm just saying, don't give up if you ever have a project you want to put extra care into. There is always a way you may need to use tape or rubber bands maybe knit at a table so you can change the method. She would wedge one hook into her armpit and manipulated the yarn with her one good hand. I have no doubt if she couldn't hold the hook she would have had Grandpa make her a glove that had it attached so she didn't use her fingers. You just need two good hands and 10 fingers to do it the traditional way. Edit: I just reread your post, you sound like you are dealing with a tough situation. I hope your bad days are few and far between. ❤

I really really really REALLY hope you do genuinely get one and use it and fall in love all over again. My granny used to sew. Like actually sew. She sewed my clothes, my dolls clothes, my barbie and life size barbie clothes. She sewed as a hobby and for business. I never see her work a different kind of job my whole life. It was something i always loved sharing with people. I was so proud of it and her and amazed by her. Id hang out with her in her sewing room (organizer boxes from floor to ceiling on every wall of the room) and she'd teach me things and all the good stuff when i was little. Anyway throughout my life we both lived so far away from each other and didn't get to see each other or talk too much anymore, but when I met my husband and later got pregnant, I started by buying a pack of cardstock and folding paper into stars. Then making all the cute holiday gifts and banners and cards for him "from the kids" I eventually went on to begging for a cricut. And on and on it went and craft shows and attempts and a business and literally being obsessed with and trying almost every craft imaginable, I now sew again too. Nothing like she did but little things. Dog bow ties, faux leather keychains and wallets etc. So a few weeks ago my granny was on her last leg of life. We all went down to see her out and my uncle and aunts and mom saved ALLLLL her craft related things for me. The things she'd refused to let go of after a lifetime of collecting and many moves and downsizes. Like her best of bests in this collection... which turned out to be enough to fill an entire room in my house and a third of our massive barn. My husband was probably pissed deep down but he didn't say a word. Which is sweet. It's a LOT of stuff. I knew she had to stop sewing a long time ago because she too had lost function in her hands. I won't keep all of it but I've been slowly - ever so sloooowly - going through each box very carefully. And it's probably got to be one of the most important, difficult, magical and impactful times of my life. I am cherishing every second. The things I've found... the parallels I've found from her that I have been living in my own life that I had no idea i got from someone or somewhere! She didn't just sew after all, she's done most crafts imaginable just like I try! Many notebooks in many boxes with measurements and patterns and ideas and themes and color schemes! I have many of those too! Unfinished projects packaged beautifully with clear plans to someday hopefully finish. I have those too. A glue drawer! I also keep a glue drawer 😂 just so many awesome things. And initially it was heartbreaking thinking she had to stop doing all this stuff but never let it go in her heart. But I did end up finding a box of bagged doll and barbie clothes she'd made in the last 5-10 years and they're amazing. Stunning. And you can just see all the little imperfections throughout that you wouldn't have ever caught on her work as a professional seamstress in years past but because her hands had given out, you could see them. and that just made them all the more special to me. It feels so amazing knowing she never fully stopped loving her craft or even practicing in her craft and she did what she could handle throughout the years. And that's amazing.and i am so grateful I get to see it all and see her through these eyes again as I get to know more of this side of her through her most prized possessions collection. So please do! Do it! For every reason, it will be AWESOME!

No disrespect but this is handcrafted, not handmade . ♡ Per the Googs: "A handmade product is often created by hand, whereas a handcrafted product is created by hand but frequently employs machines or computers to speed up production." I feel it a bit deceptive to call this handmade, and really not respectful of those who hand knit or hand crochet every stitch ! I hope you will reconsider marketing them as handmade and maybe switch to handcrafted with love ? But that is a really neat tool you have there and what a beautiful outcome !
@lifeinnirvana4810

It's made with her hands and a tool just like it is with a knitting needle or crochet hook. I use needles, hooks, and a device like this. It's disrespectful? Bruv I have a disability that fucks with my hands. If I can't hold a needle and transfer it it's no longer handcrafted? I also sew. Is it not handcrafted because I didn't painstakingly hand stitch a skirt for weeks with a needle and thread? People give words meaning. Dictionaries just relay the meanings gleamed from the past. Rizz only just got added into the dictionary and mid has a new definition. And there are many words used "incorrectly" because in a certain context they mean different things to people. Your Google definitions mean little.

@lifeinnirvana4810 you must not have read my comment at all. "Is it not handcrafted" no, it IS handcrafted... that was literally what I was saying.... it's handcrafted, but not handMADE. Sorry to hear that you have a disability but that doesn't change facts.

@lifeinnirvana4810 as somebody who does crochet, it can be harmful to call this handmade. Especially selling them. People who actually handmake their projects take way longer and by saying this is handmade is saying we should all be able to make things this fast when that's just not realistic at all.
@lifeinnirvana4810
@lifeinnirvana4810 10 ай бұрын
@@taylordesjarlais4300 And it is priced accordingly. There is a reason crochet projects tend to cost an arm and a leg while knitting tends to have a much larger range. I have friends who can crochet a beanie in 2 hours and will do multiple. I take a day minimum and will not be able to make another for a day after. I will also price mine higher because the project caused me pain. Customers that don't know how things are made always compare and contrast to get the cheapest thing quickly and at the best quality. That goes for literally everything. If we're making a hierarchy based on effort then to make it better when selling them please explain to me the real difference between the two. And is sewing handcrafted or handmade depending if they hand sew or not. And if you have two words for that then what of the people that don't use hooks? Are they more handcrafted?

Handmade, did you know, is actually a legal term? Handmade implies creation of a piece from raw materials and nonautomatic tools and machinery while hand crafted is the same but from pre-constructed articles. An example would be a hand crafted item would be if she got the pom pom, hat, and tags in a kit and put them all together and added an embellishment or two. A handmade item like the one she makes in the video is where she has made it from scratch from yarn. Knitting machines, despite popular belief, aren't cheating and don't diminish the fact that someone handmade the project. It may be machine stitched but she still made it, not the machine. The machine didn't automatically make it a hat, all it does is turn hooks in a circle. Its like saying that a wood worker isn't allowed to use a planar and still call their wood working hand made. The use of tools doesn't diminish the craftsmanship of an item unless those tools make the process automatic.

@@RedQuill13I disagree. For me, the distinguishing factor is skill, not automation. To use your woodworking analogy, let's say you want to make a bowl. You can use skill and no machinery, spending ages carving out the wood with a curved knife (skill, no machines); you can speed up the process by using a lathe (skill and machines), or you can place a lot under a machine and laser cut a bowl (just machines). This is the equivalent of a laser cut piece of woodcraft. Yes, it still requires some human input (like every single machine does), but it requires very little skill, effort, practice or talent - which is what is associated with a "handmade" label. You can't photocopy a lino cut and sell it at the same price as the original just because it wasn't an automated process. Photocopying doesn't require the same skill, effort and time as the original artwork, and therefore a distinction has to be made. Same here. We have to distinguish between machine knitting and hand knitting because one takes way more time, effort and skill than the other does, even if it ends with the same result.

y’all wouldn’t call something made off a sewing machine “not handmade” would you? or say a cookie isn’t handmade because they used a stand mixer rather than whisking the dough by hand? sure, this takes less time and effort than knitting with needles but i could say the same thing about sewing with a machine vs a needle. it’s not like they’re mass producing these in a giant sweatshop with hundreds of electric powered industrial knitting machines. these are made at home, with care, one at a time. that’s as handmade as anything. it’s simply an aid to make a craft faster and easier to do. same as a sewing machine, or a kitchenaid, a tool on a digital art program that lets you make perfectly straight lines, or a cricut to cut things out of vinyl.

@@nicoazevedo3581 actually, 3d printing require more a lot work, manual and non manual than this and is a lot more complex to execute on so many levels, especially if you do your own models. You can't just load filament and press print and get the result you want, like you would crank that thing.

i think sewing is different, as when you sew you need to take measurements (if you arent using a premade pattern), draw/trace the pieces onto the fabric, cut the fabric out, and pin it together, all by hand. then you have to make sure it runs through the machine properly so it comes out nice, you dont just press the foot pedal and watch it sew, you have to guide the fabric through BY HAND. the sewing maching is simply a tool used for seaming rather than the entire process. same with baking. you need to measure the right amount of ingredients, prep the pan/baking container (?), pour the batter or dough in, set the oven, all by hand. the mixer is simply a tool used for mixing rather than the entire process. a knitting machine however, all you do is simply load it up with yarn, and crank it until its done, then run a string through the stitches and tie. the machine is doing almost all of the work. so no, not handmade. SELF-made, yes, but not HANDmade. big factories most likely use a very similar process, just with heavier machinery. id be a little upset if i ordered a “hand knit” hat only to find out it was made on a knitting machine.

Es que no está hecho a mano, tienes razón en eso. Otros comentarios también se están quejando de eso. Que probablemente mucho de estos productos que dicen ser hechos a mano, realmente no lo son.

Technically its not hand made. It might not be mass produced, but its still machine produced.

Thats what I was thinking. It's not handmade. If I were buying something handmade, I'd rather spend my money on the person who actually used 2 needles and their hands, not a machine. Yeah it's pretty, but I don't feel it's very honest either.

@@sarahmathews3 sorrry bud, it will be really more expensive then, you'll be paying for days of work of someone on that piece, I know by mom words, you'll pay for their piece of life used on make this slow process of making the piece of clothing... can you afford then? without mistreating this work? if yes, great... but a lot of people disrespect that, so finding ways to make faster, yet "homely cozy" are options for these crafters, so... you got my point, right? economical profit to survive, to attend in a way to make money with the craft... respect for your opinion of course, just adding some thoughts...

So is it not handmade if she doesn't spin the yarn herself? How about if she doesn't pick the cotton or shear the sheep herself? What if the sheep are fed by grain grown with machines? What if she knits them all by hand instead, but uses needles made by aluminum casting?? See how dumb this gets? Using a simple machine does not give the product more or less value... it's a hat. It keeps heads warm... that's the value
@ulynvanzyl8474
@ulynvanzyl8474 10 ай бұрын
@@calebplumleeoutdoors actually there is a huge difference. Knitting by hand and keeping your tension even, is a skill that you need to learn and it takes time to produce an item. Does the item do more or less of a “job” at keeping you warm, of course not, but but dont put a tag on something thats misleading. Think about a leather wallet that is handmade (as a craft) and took a few days, vs a factory cut and paste one that was not hand stitched and popped out in a few minutes. if we take you reasoning and swing the pendulum all the way to the other side, is it still handmade if a machine is used to make a product , but you use your hand to press the button to start it up? See how ridiculous that is? Handmade is when a skill or technique is used and due to this, certain imperfections is expected and allowed because its not mass produced. You also pay more for handmade because you realize its an art that takes longer to produce, this however, is not an art or skill, the machine does the tention and stitches and in fact there is no skill to this at all. Its like heating up a TV dinner and saying you cooked dinner... come on...

A lie is a lie no matter how good your intentions were! This insults everyone who REALLY offers handmade items. Apart from that, credibility is completely lost when such a person wants to make a name for themselves and has to LIE.... What she does is NOT handmade! You can twist and turn as is. How can something be “handmade with love” if you just turn a crank????? No skill or ability necessary! Even a small child could do something like this with exactly the same quality. This wouldn't be possible with something "HANDMADE". to 100%

@@trevordonato4564 by objective standards this is far from hand made, use common sense, people are paying for stuff made by hand, not assisted by a machine. This is not a tool since it's automatizing the process and just destroys the concept of artisanal production.
