2 days ago I fired up my super splitters (got 3 of them) and it amazes me the production we can get out of them. Every year I figure we will break one of them and the only thing I've ever replaced on them in 14 years is the motors. Very well built splitters that work great. Their awesome for the bundles.

Hi Joe!!😀😀 The super splitter is a great machine. It definitely has its place in the woodyard. It's fast enough to keep 2 people busy if you wanted. We are going to be having rain for a second week this week. The frost was deep this year and the weather has been taking its time on thawing out the ground and drying up. It was 15 degrees last night. So that's definitely not helping things any. But that's how mud season goes . Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

@@ohiowoodburner us too. The tracks on my tree harvester are frozen solid with clay mud and I can't get it to move. Have never had this problem ever in 30 years of running them. I hope in a couple days it will thaw out so I can get back to cutting. Not fun!! LOL!!

Good morning Joe! If and when possible I avoid splitting with my SS in the rain and snow. The rack doesn’t travel back and forth like it should when wet. Here in SE Michigan we had a brief snow squall come thru yesterday morning and I just waited till it was over to split.

I cut up a used chipper knife and welded a little 1” tall piece to the wedge on my super split. It cut down drastically on the stringers that you get when splitting a large piece that the original wedge wasn’t tall enough to completely sever. As for the ram getting plugged up when splitting/returning; just go to the back of the machine and adjust the return springs shorter. I just grab about an inch of the coil and slip it in between a piece of the frame, makes for a shorter spring, hence stronger spring action. You can always adjust it back if needed.

I've had my SuperSplit for 43 years. Never failed ever. Ten years ago I converted it to electric operation. Quiet and no gas needed. But if I need to split away from an a.c. power source, I just use a generator. Again I can locate the noise away from the splitter. @@a-verybasic2 No, none at all in ten years since retiring from my electrical engineering job. I designed it so it can't stall and cause a current surge. To prevent a full stall I installed a go kart clutch on the motor. When the rpm falls to a set rpm, the clutch kicks out. I used a Baldor 1hp motor, with a 20 amp on/off switch that's installed in the electrical box on the motor. I feed it off a 20A breaker, 12 awg, 30' extension and, of course, a GFI. Shalom/gw the

@@ohiowoodburner - Big Rodders again. I thought the frame may be used to hold 1 ton builders' bags that contain say one eight of a cord that would get filled by the Axis conveyor. This is a common way for selling firewood over here for circa $40 minimum and I used to produce 200 bags a year for one supplier in this manner, although all hand filled direct from the splitter. However, I realise this is not your business model so that's what piqued my curiosity.

I've been watching all your videos reference the Super Split. I have a Wolfe Ridge Pro 28c and split approximately 10 cord a year for my wood boiler. I have a cabin 800 miles away that I will trailer the Wolfe Ridge once a year to split 2 to 4 cord. Thinking of purchasing a used Super Split, if I can find one, to take to my cabin and leave it for splitting duties. Thanks for sharing.

That would be a great thing to do. I just set mine up and tested it last week. It is an awesome machine. My brother in law’s neighbor has a small Wolf Ridge splitter,…so we “borrowed” some rounds out of his backyard while he was out of town. My BIL was impressed with it. He said that it takes his neighbor all day to split his firewood. I think you’ll be happy if you find one. I think that I’m gonna order my first triaxle load of logs next week. I have new saws, a splitter, and a couple of hundred totes to fill. Just looking forward to my new hobby 😁.

Hi Joe! Thanks for another great video. I like the long version here over the one on FB. Just curious if you’ve ever used a pair of log tongs to help get the rounds onto the splitter? I feel like they give my back and hands a little break. I even found a set of magnetic hooks that’ll hold 100 lb to hold them on the side of the production table when not in use. Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. You're a man after my own heart. For years a pair of 12 inch Husky timber tongs has been an indispensable part of my log handling regime. I have tried to spread the gospel in KZbin land but only two guys followed up my recommendation. The ability to lift and easily move rings around and throw splits greatly increases your operational efficiency - but you obviously know all this aready!

Good Morning Joe, another great video. You mentioned near the end, that the selling season starts in the fall. Don’t you sell all year round, restaurants and BBQ Smoke houses use firewood all year round. Recreational firewood user burn all year round outside and inside their homes. Individuals that use firewood for heating will start burning when temperatures start to fall, but the sale of seasoned firewood can be anytime. An empty woodshed or rack has little or no value to a person that uses firewood for recreational, cooking, or heating unless it’s filled with quality seasoned firewood. So why is the fall the start of selling season? When today could be the start or yesterday? 🤔😎

It's just my observation. Wet wood creates more gummy junk on the beam and works its way into the bearing.

Saturday and Sunday mornings we experienced 2" of snow each morning and by late afternoon it is all melted. Ideal snowfall for over planting grass seed. ? have you pursued any ideas for the grates in your outside boiler.

I had the DR knockoff of the super splitter and it was not a good decision, it was junk. I should have just spent a little extra for the SS. Oh well! I now have an eastonmade ultra on the way and I am pumped, the best of both worlds!

Hi Joe, I was watching back 40 when he was doing time trials on different sized wedges. I bet people would love to see a comparison with the super. I bet the super with its fast cycle time might beat it. How fast can you split 30pcs with the super?

I have never timed me running it but my Eastonmade could prob beat it simply bc you can make about 4-8 pieces in a cycle given how wide the knife is. Still they are both great machines

I tried out the cheap one that tractor supply sells. Single flywheel. Also when you push the lever forward the pinion and cam gear vibrates horrible up the lever and into the arm. My elbow was toast after an hour from the vibration. Yours has a pull up lever and looks like there is no vibration. Much better.

That Super Splitter sure is fast and doesn't seem to have any trouble going through any of those rounds. The only downside to me is the table is just a little too low (like many splitters). At least for a person my height (6'2"). Dave

I am 6' 2" also Dave. I think it is a fine height. If you wanted you could put the support and wheels on blocks. Regardless it is much easier to work with than a I beam type!

I don't know what the designer if it was thinking but the beam is literally about 6 inches off the ground. I have it propped up on old trailer wheels and pallets to get it up to a usable height. I have an Eastonmade Ultra on order which is supposed to be ready in April. I can't wait! Dave

I'm 6ft 4inches tall and the working height of the splitter table is absolutely essential if back pain is to be minimised, particularly when you are past retirement age. I have tailored my own vertical splitter to ensure I can split without bending forward. However, when I split for a producer I had to fabricate a platform for his machine to achieve my required table height. The SuperSplit would easily accommodate such an arrangement since it is so light but unfortunately the company does not sell product over here so all I can do is be envious of you guys who have such a selection of equipment available to you at what to us is really cheap prices.

From experience I can see a log that will cause me fits on the Japa so I just buck it and split. The ash was a little too big to fit and that maple was very crooked so I just cut it up.

Morning joe that maple is not nice wood to cut it seems problems every cut u cannot beat cherry and ash they are easy to cut but wood is wood as long as it brings in pennys that is all that matters hope you and family are all good takecare be safe another good vid untill next time.
