In regards to the weird log with a handle, I recommend looking up a youtube guy named arborist Blair Glenn. He of all people would be able to tell you more about this weird log you found. He's an arborist out of Sarasota, CA and also a woodworker. Incredibly knowledgeable on trees and you can really tell he has a true passion for his craft and educating people. Check his videos out and maybe send him an e-mail about the weird log as he often does videos of oddball stuff like this where he dissects anomalies in trees.

Hey Joe, the Japa makes quick work of those nice straight logs! As far as that piece of oak goes being a tree climber I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen trees that have branches that grow back into another limb sometimes short spans like you had there, other times I’ve seen them 8 to 10 feet across growing into a completely separate leader! It’s always something really cool to see and doesn’t seem to impact the tree in a negative way at all!

First time diesel owner is a fun learning curve. Like others said, treat that fuel. We use 2 backhoes and a skid steer (all diesel) for plowing here in NWPA and have tried several fuel additives and found the best one too date is from a company called HotShot Secret, best stuff out there! And you can buy it right on Amazon. A second thing you want too do is regardless of how many hours you use it or not, change the fuel filters at least once a year. Lastly if it has a block heater, plug it in until the temps are in the 50's your tractor will love you for it.

The harbor freight pump is ok, used mine for 2 years, still good. Take the batteries out between use. They will last longer. Also pump is gravity sensitive so if doesn’t turn on, your not straight up enough . Also, if fuel can is higher than your tractor fill, siphon will keep going even when shut off switch. Lift pump out of fuel level to stop siphon and not over fill. Otherwise, works fine.

Hello Joe. I'm new to Ohio Wood Burner but you're a real inspiration. Your videos are full of tips and advice that will help others along with unbiased guidance on the machines you use. I'm looking to do something similar and go it alone making firewood. Small steps first though. Our market in the UK is slightly different as the cut/ split lengths required in my area are generally shorter (12"-14")and it's not as commonly used in restaurants. Mostly domestic sales. The same sales techniques as you employ still apply though.! No petrol powered machinery here though, too costly to run with our fuel prices, approx £6 sterling per gallon. Ouch.!! Keep up the good work, looking forward to more firewood fun from O.W.B😁

I've never seen a log like that but I'm guessing the limb grew out, up and over a crotch and then the tree grew around it. I would try and mill it on a bandsaw into multiple boards for signs or interesting charcuterie/cutting boards. Where the wood leaves the trunk and then re-enters might have some really interesting grain figure. Good luck!

I have had one of those pumps for 5 years or so, works great. moved to a 50 gallon tank with hand pump from rural king. i use sea foam in the tank for cleaner burning and anti gel preventative. About 8 bucks a can at rk stores. i also burn road diesel as it is more expensive for sure nut much cleaner. No more black smoke and soot choking ya and all over tractors at exhaust.

I like that battery powered filler upper. I have 2 cans for diesel and I bought 2 spout kits at TSC. So I put a vent in each can and have 2 spout tubes I put together for the funnel, I hold it up an fuel comes out quickly.

Off-road fuel isn’t treated for the winter use FYI. Diesel fuel untreated will gel up around 10-15 degrees once that happens you have to replaced your fuel filter.

@@stevethiel5838 Steve I try too use road diesel when I can . I poured road diesel and dyed diesel each in a clear clean glass . The dyed diesel seemed thicker and clouded . Someone told me once that farm dyed diesel is made different for winter or summer . 🤷‍♂️ Road diesel is definitely cleaner . And thinner . There’s something for sure different because my tractor regens way more on red . 🤷‍♂️

@@stephenrhodesianridgeback7418 In winter they mix more #1 diesel in, resulting in less paraffin so it gells less. They do that with both on and off road. State laws often regulate the normal mixtures. Some require bio diesel mixed in, that tend to reduce regen. And companies often add additive packages differently. Really would have to ask the vendor to know if they add the same additive package to their off road. Old fuel also can be thicker and clouded.

If you get to the point you are needing a lot more fuel on hand for the tractor you can always go the 55 gallon barrel on a pallet rout but would need a different style of transfer pump then. By keeping it on the pallet you can move the almost 400lbs with the tractor and not risk hurting yourself. The good news is they make a number of manual and powered pumps that screw right into a barrel bung so no need to DIY something.

The oil company has that type of program with the stands but I don't think my consumption will warrant something like that. Joe
