Remember in the olden days when you didn’t have a grapple attachment? Look at all the equipment and machinery you’ve invested in… my how things have changed! And that 405, what a game changer. “Look Ma, no hands!” It’ll help keep you going as a one man operation for a while. Elaine from Canada here, thanks for showing us “a day at the office”. 😆 So happy for you.

Joe, when you first started using this machine, I must admit, I thought it was a joke, with the auto splitter and all...But after watching all the videos on this 405, I must admit, I really like it now...I service several restaurants, and I can see the merit's of this machine...Thank you for taking the time to show us...Rodney @ Firewood Providers Northwest

Thanks for the comment Rodney. It is the real deal. I remember when I first looked at the Japa 365 I thought it was mickey mouse but concluded it was the exact opposite. It is very well built and engineered. I really think Europe is making the best machine.

i work with a friend that owns a smaller firewood processor a wallenstein 635. The Japa is quite an improvement over what I use as the cable system to pull logs into the machine is much slower, no loading deck, no box wedge as its just a 4 way, no cleaner, no ramp of any significance and I JUST LOVE THE AUTO FEATURE ON THE JAPA THAT THE RAM JUST KEEPS CYCLING. YOU have a great machine/system there and I am envious here in south central kentucky. My best to you and your business.

Hi Joe, out of all the channels I watch, and the various processors I see in action, the 405 appears to be as near perfect solution as it gets! There are some damn good processors out there, including Andrews EM products. However, the 405 just seems the perfect fit for small to 16” logs. Ideal machine for most ‘wood-hounds’ I watch. Getting pretty damn good on your machinery ops co-ordination too! Do like your logic, on your selection of equipment, and subsequent set-up! Very entertaining…..keep up the good work Joe! Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. That's more of an Irish sky that you have got today. Lifting pints of Guinness also gives your elbow a good workout, albeit in warmer surroundings! I wonder if the designers thought about preheating the hydraulic oil either by an electrical element run by the Kubota engine alternator or the engine coolant. The cold appeared to affect the saw operation for most of your session.
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 2 жыл бұрын
Part of it was operator error BR. I cranked up the saw pressure to overcome the cold and forgot to back it off when the machine warmed up. It was set too aggressive and was bogging the engine

I sell every piece of wood I split. from boilerwood, Fireplacewood ,campwood, bundles, to smoking wood. Never enough trees to split up. So I'm always cutting and logging more out. The only big issue with that processor is the slow splitting times. 3-4 cycles to split an average size log slows your production down tremendously. You could be done in 1/4-1/3 the time. Your always waiting for the splitter. I guess that is the price you pay for same size splits. Not the most efficient for firewood production, unless needed buy the buyer. Then they have to pay more.

I've gotten away from covering firewood I don't see any value. If there is it's at a scientific level that we can't appreciate for practical purposes. I think you just leave it uncovered and save your money in tarps

Covering firewood or not is always an interesting discussion. Here in VT, covering firewood is important. We get lots of snow and rain during winter. I've invested in custom sized durable tarps. Should get 6 -8 years use out of them.

Would you mind doing some figuring for us? I'd like to know what you have figured on years and cords it will take you to justify all the equipment you use. Nothing specific, mind you, just rough estimates. I do +/- 10 cord a year for my personal use, so this is nothing I could ever justify owning. My guess is you'll need to pound 500 cord through it before you can consider it a good investment. It is a wonderful machine.

I bootstrapped this enterprise. I paid cash for what you see. I traded up with my Dyna SC12xp for the Japa 365, and then it for the 405 so the purchase didnt hurt as bad as you think given my equity. The log deck was given to me bc of KZbin. The cleaner isn't mine as I technically don't need it given we hand stack. Still it works great for my needs now. People who don't see the ROI are usually valuing a cord for something low like $150-$200. If you calculate a cord at $650--$700 you can see that my balance on the 405 can be paid on in a few months.

Somebody has gotten much better running that beast and maximizing its production, but I gotta ask; do you find that you use the axis for making “pretty” wood and the yapa for mass production? I’m thinking restaurant wood that has display time might not be as presentable coming from the yapa. Great production machine but aesthetically inferior to supersplit or axis products. Reno

The Axis is certainly precision...just like the super splitter. I think when I run the 6 way perfect split on the Japa you will probably change your opinion!!

@@ohiowoodburner A processor is a must for the volume you produce, and stepping up your log size to bigger ones will hopefully open the pinch point of log truck availability to create more input. That machine is faster than you and two others can keep up with when it’s running. Diesel engines work best when they are running, let it eat and get ahead on next years wood. Now if someone would make a processor that would stack as it goes 🤔 Reno

Thanks Bob. I expect it to be a very durable machine. It is built very heavy and is easy to work on. Japa has been making machines since 1977 so I'm sure they got some things right!

Time is money, the logs on the ground should be loaded faster. You keep making 1 to 3 turns loading. This is just loading logs.
