i work with a friend that owns a smaller firewood processor a wallenstein 635. The Japa is quite an improvement over what I use as the cable system to pull logs into the machine is much slower, no loading deck, no box wedge as its just a 4 way, no cleaner, no ramp of any significance and I JUST LOVE THE AUTO FEATURE ON THE JAPA THAT THE RAM JUST KEEPS CYCLING. YOU have a great machine/system there and I am envious here in south central kentucky. My best to you and your business.

Hi Joe, out of all the channels I watch, and the various processors I see in action, the 405 appears to be as near perfect solution as it gets! There are some damn good processors out there, including Andrews EM products. However, the 405 just seems the perfect fit for small to 16” logs. Ideal machine for most ‘wood-hounds’ I watch. Getting pretty damn good on your machinery ops co-ordination too! Do like your logic, on your selection of equipment, and subsequent set-up! Very entertaining…..keep up the good work Joe! Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. That's more of an Irish sky that you have got today. Lifting pints of Guinness also gives your elbow a good workout, albeit in warmer surroundings! I wonder if the designers thought about preheating the hydraulic oil either by an electrical element run by the Kubota engine alternator or the engine coolant. The cold appeared to affect the saw operation for most of your session.
@ohiowoodburner2 жыл бұрын
Part of it was operator error BR. I cranked up the saw pressure to overcome the cold and forgot to back it off when the machine warmed up. It was set too aggressive and was bogging the engine

The only big issue with that processor is the slow splitting times. 3-4 cycles to split an average size log slows your production down tremendously. You could be done in 1/4-1/3 the time. Your always waiting for the splitter. I guess that is the price you pay for same size splits. Not the most efficient for firewood production, unless needed buy the buyer. Then they have to pay more.

Covering firewood or not is always an interesting discussion. Here in VT, covering firewood is important. We get lots of snow and rain during winter. I've invested in custom sized durable tarps. Should get 6 -8 years use out of them.

Would you mind doing some figuring for us? I'd like to know what you have figured on years and cords it will take you to justify all the equipment you use. Nothing specific, mind you, just rough estimates. I do +/- 10 cord a year for my personal use, so this is nothing I could ever justify owning. My guess is you'll need to pound 500 cord through it before you can consider it a good investment. It is a wonderful machine.
@ohiowoodburner2 жыл бұрын
I bootstrapped this enterprise. I paid cash for what you see. I traded up with my Dyna SC12xp for the Japa 365, and then it for the 405 so the purchase didnt hurt as bad as you think given my equity. The log deck was given to me bc of KZbin. The cleaner isn't mine as I technically don't need it given we hand stack. Still it works great for my needs now. People who don't see the ROI are usually valuing a cord for something low like $150-$200. If you calculate a cord at $650--$700 you can see that my balance on the 405 can be paid on in a few months.

Somebody has gotten much better running that beast and maximizing its production, but I gotta ask; do you find that you use the axis for making “pretty” wood and the yapa for mass production?
