Several YT and forum guys have reported that removing the negative token makes the fork much better and less over damped. I wonder if they are lighter and ride regular mtbs.
@finroddd5 күн бұрын
yeah, Otter's videos directly contradicts everything that I saw up till now about the negative token.

I have this fork, I weight 176lbs/80kg and I have ridden it extensively with and without the neg token. I race expert level enduro around CO and the rocky mtn region. A couple of thoughts: if you are going to race at high speed and do huge jumps and drops, probably better to leave the token in. With the factory tune, this fork needs to be ridden hard and fast. It is not a beginner fork and it is not plush. But nor is it harsh. Very supportive and tons of mid stroke support. With the negative token out (it is a tiny, tiny token) it is slightly more easy going and only needs a little more air pressure. No way it needs 50+ psi like stated here. I run 95 psi in the main chamber and 200 in the ramp up chamber for 170mm on my enduro bike. I only occasionally bottom it out. One thing to note is that you HAVE to fill the ramp up chamber first and then the main air chamber. Maybe this is why Otter is having issues.. not sure. If you don’t do this and then equalize the chambers (which requires cycling pretty deep into the stroke) then it gets wonky like he explained at the end.
@user-xq5rp9fm1p4 күн бұрын
@@COMOMTB wouldn't surprise me if he didn't fill the chambers in the correct order...in other vids he's mentioned something about starting out at equal pressures for both chambers first then filling the ramp-up to a pressure that is "fitting." Pretty sure he makes a lot of shit up as he goes...He can barely speak proper English. Kinda take most his vids with a grain of salt now...

@@COMOMTB thank you for the detailed answer! I am not racing and not jumping but probably will keep the token and will run lower pressures. A question - if a fork come rom the shop already pressured - do you thing it is better to let all air out from both chambers and the pumping them up as instructed?
@markgreen124 күн бұрын
@@COMOMTB thanks for the great reply! just wondering if your pressures of 95 main 200 ramp are with the token removed? I am on the 36 m.2 version and the same weight as you and running 100-190, I think both versions 36-38 run the same air pressure, going to give your settings a go as a little more supple off the top is always welcome
@capitolraceworks5 күн бұрын
I can’t say I agree with much of the information on this video. Maybe it’s cause you’re a e biker. As a 185 lbs. aggressive/intermediate rider with negative spacer out to make it more supple off the top, 115/235 psi 2nd setting on hsc works perfect for me and is almost as good as my ext era without the high Maintence cost . I still bottom often when I make mistakes but not bad enough for me to want to change anything.

I have the same fork, I’m 240lbs, had the same bottoming issue, i removed all the air from the positive chamber , put around 300 in the ramp up and then 140 in the positive and the fork is buttery now without bottoming. I removed the negative air spacer and made a big difference in the small bump sensitivity I ride high speed and lower speed trails and find the fork great everywhere. Compared to my Zeb 3.0 it feels plusher in the small bump sensitivity, I just had my crown replaced on my Zeb and got the 3.1 damper installed but haven’t ridden it yet.

I've been using the rxf38 for two seasons and weigh 165lb. Without the negative spacer removed, I would have to use lower psi (95/170) to get the supple off the top feeling. The recommended pressure was too harsh (105/180) and I wouldn't use all the travel. With the negative spacer removed and higher PSI (115/200) it is very supple and I am able to use more travel. Still very supportive due to the excellent damping.

I have a RXF 38 with a TTX coil on my rig since new. I don't have a benchmark to the stock Fox that it came with but one thing I am struggling with is severe bottom out (the the loud metallic clank). I'll have to ask my local Ohlins specialist to check if the spacer is installed.
@esshoul4 күн бұрын
I have older RXF36 EVO with TTX22 damper and well, what they call HSC is actually LSC and what they call LSC is doing basically nothing. Ride this thing there is only option to have everything fully open. Regarding ramp-up cvhamber well, there is little difference so I pump it to recommendation. If I pump to recommendation main chaber then it is stiff as Rocco Siffredis rod and when I lower pressure, then is it goes deep into travel on every braking and when riding down hill you are sagged to like 60% which sucks. ANd last rant: Shame on Ohlins for unavailable and overpriced upgrade options - we with older forks could upgrade to TTX18 easilly but no avail...

I strongly recommend you try a Zeb with the 3.1 damper, the 3.1 is sooooo much plusher than the 3.0 or the 2.1. Its a different fork than all the old Zebs
@finroddd5 күн бұрын
that's interesting! Maybe this is solution with my issues with the Zeb 3.0 - it is harsh and disappointing.

@@finroddd when you open up the compression on the 3.1, its full open and free moving. I used my 3.0 with the compression full open and it still felt harsh. If you have a 3.0, you can get a $75 kit that changes the 3.0 to 3.1

I did not like the rockshox zeb 3.1. It was way to harsh. I ran it at 50 psi (i am 69kg) but it felt like it was at 75 psi. Also i had a friend that ran the 3.0 on 75psi and it felt the same as my 50 psi 3.1. It is really strange. And the connection between the steertube and crown is not right. It has a little playafter some riding quite fast. It is making an annoying creacking sound. I have had this problem 2 times and a friend of my 4 times. The second time for me was after 7 full days of riding. So i came to the conclussion no more rockshox for me.

Wonder why people have so much variance when comparing brands models. I never found the 3.0 harsh. I did have tight bushes but definitely not harsh. Riding at low speed the 2.1 bladder is more noticeable for plushness but ride faster you don’t notice. When your comparing the 3 vs 3.1 is this only at low speed?
@RideyRodney5 күн бұрын
What pressure are you running in the chambers? I’m 90kg and need to run 150 main and 250 ramp up to stop it bottoming out. Also running lsc at 100% closed, hsc open on trail but closed riding park/big features. At that pressure it’s 11% sag which is crazy, but I need it for bottom out support. Not happy with it overall.

I had it only for a week (rental) but I noticed the some things at 78kg rider weight I initially had it at 160/260 felt a lot like a zeb: really weird exiting high speed berms & harsh compression change, like the rebound was stuck open for a second, WTF situation... also noticeable when I catched high speed air on landing the fork felt harsh and had "moment" when traction became super sketchy. Going softer on the air spring side 10/5 PSI (and the 20/10+ but it was horrible) helped a lot with the traction but then it felt like that midstroke support was gone, so yeah even at my weight the tree chamber thing is being a bit funky... Much better fork that the OEM m.1 I tried on my friend's bike (felt stickey) but yeah it's a bit weird.

36 is hard fork to undertake. It has 3 air springs. Some of them need 2 tokens some I need none. It steers faster lower speeds. The latest one feels like mini 38. The youtube hamster wheel wants 38mm stanchions so I avoid the smaller forks. I love them since they are more nimble.

Ohlins are dampener reliant. tune support with the dampener and pretty much the majority of the stroke. Just use the airspring pretty much just for ride height and absolute bottom out control. You can absolutely crank compression etc. without any harshness (unless there's too much pressure).. You can also remove the negative spacer for even more plushness. Most forks rely on the airspring for majority of the support, ohlins relys on dampening for stroke control.
