The one perk about learning Korean is that it is the easiest of the top 3. Unlike Chinese and Japanese (who seem to love doubling down on their cryptic difficulty,) Korean has evolved with the times and has become much more simplified and palatable over the decades. This is why Foreign K-Pop stars can essentially become fluent in less than 4 months.

I started to learn Korean simply because of Stray Kids and BTS. The songs alone taught me a lot of words. I started by learning Hangul first and it was really easy to be honest. To be fair I consume mainly Korean content in my free time like music and shows but also interviews and basically anything my loved Idol groups put out and hit helps so much

I’ve been studying Korean on and off for years and what’s been helping me keep my skills sharp is constantly watching variety shows, interviews and Dramas. I’m going to get Rosetta Stone so I can work on my pronunciation since that’s what’s been holding me back from being comfortable with the language.

I have done some of this, in particular media consumption, with german, and I 100% credit this (along with living in Germany with a german family I guess) with bridging the gap between high school german floundering and being able to listen to and read german in the wild without stress. It is really truly helpful. One type of media I would highly recommend is kids news programmes. It's designed to be understood by people with minimal knowledge of the topic, and it's relevant vocab that you won't always come across otherwise. You may not find it with subtitles though, so it's probably still an intermediate level media

I love that you mention learning songs. Im 60 and use to love to sing, I have been watching Korean tv, videos and listening to music for the last yr at least now. I Love Roy Kim. His song It'll be alright is very special to me. Point being I have chosen to learn it. I did check out the romanized version BUT, I am very picky about my pronunciation and emphasis. So I took the time to OH DEAR GODS rewrite the romanized translation for my own benefit of seeing the sounds correctly. I will learn hangul asap now that you have mentioned it. It must be easier than what the heck I did, lol. But I also found it interesting you mention the sound between the b and p etc.

I believe Korean should be approached like any other language. Achieving native-like fluency is straightforward: immerse yourself by watching and listening until you reach about a first-grade level of a native speaker. Then, begin reading extensively and continue immersing yourself indefinitely. 😊 To the person reading this: you will become fluent in Korean one day - it just takes time! 화이팅!
@Jayla47multistan-c4g18 күн бұрын
Thank you so much. I’m going to try this for sure, I would say also that watching your favourite show or movie dubbed in Korean can help because you know what it says in English so it should help you a little in that way, test yourself, you got this guys! 👏✨

A lot of words sound like Chinese because Vietnamese is the same. the tone are similar to Chinese. Like Dương =Sound=Similiar=> Yang =Meaning=> (Positive, goat or other hot stuff [no related to XXX]). Or, GeonBae =meaning=> Cheer =Sound=Similiar=> Gānbēi! in Chinese =Sound=> Cạn Ly in Viet. I can hear the tone. So If you really want to learn Korean, All you do is just do what she said. Turn you into an Asian and you good to go. Philippines and other Asian are different. Only North East and South East ["Inland"] Asian, ok? [No discrimination there]. :) Happy Learning
