This is easily second fly in my opinion after pheasant tail. One doesn't go without another. Both are absolute must in the box. So that's why i am making this fly for giveaway box.
Its easy tie but there is always something you may change in your tying.
Hope you will enjoy this video.
Cheers

Your talk at the end about moving your fly.... I realized I always caught fish when I was digging around in my vest looking for something. For the longest time I said "damn fish know when I'm not paying attention." 😂 I finally realized it's because I was moving my flies. That realization doubled the number of fish I catch on nymphs. I dunno why I was under the impression for so long that I should try not to move them much.

Nice vladimir great fly and explanation! I tied a couple of these after watching last night and they did great for me today when other flies weren't going well. It was the change that was needed. Is partridge your favourite legs or sometimes use CDC? I see in another video you use rabbit fur and no tinsel. Also good point I think it looks most like caddis pupa also.
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 2 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm super glad to hear that. I'm very happy that my patterns are working in New Zealand., Partridge and cdc are both my favorite legs. I would use partridge in faster while CDC in a little bit slower water. CDC would be my favourite if only had that color black and white as partridge has. I love CDC because it has so much inbuilt movement into itself. I truly believe that CDC adds a lot of life to our flies and it makes them more productive. Tinsel is something I use most of the time when I just need dull fly I would use it without tinsel. But tinsel would work most of the time. if I had to choose tinsel or no tinsel it would be yes tinsel. 🍺😀😀

I hope that this does not come off as being critical as I have a couple questions with regards to this fly. Love the fly, however is it really a Hare’s Ear or a fusion of a Hare’s Ear and a soft hackle? The Hare’s Ear nymphs that I’ve tied in the past always had a wing case. Have you considered adding a wing case? My last question is with regards to your dubbing technique. How do you manage to get the dubbing so tight on your thread? My dubbing tends to start breaking away from my thread and starts to loop around it instead of staying on the thread. Thanks in advance.
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 2 жыл бұрын
Its perfectly fine, no worries. Actually I love your comment... Its more about techniques than materials... Good thinking 🍻🍻🍻 Yes, its fusion, variation... Some call it guides choice, some hare's Ear softhackle.... Its just what you said... A fusion... As for dubbing. It depends on what you use. Coarse dubbing tends to be difficult to dub on. What helps is: 1) to always dub in one direction, clockwise is the best. I explained why in some videos before (too long to write)... 2) fibers, hairs... Better to be at an angle to thread.... Close to perpendicular... Unless you do long fibers like antron... 3) keep your fingertips moist.... Dry fingers are super difficult for dubbing... 4) start with soft dubbing blends first. They are easy to dub and to learn the techniques.... Later move on to more coarser... For example, seals fur dubbing is super tough to dub with fingers....
@19DevilDawg86
@19DevilDawg86 2 жыл бұрын
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Ensuring that my fingertips are moist is something that I’ve never heard before and I will definitely do just that. My fingertips are always bone dry when I’m tying. Awesome tip! Thank you for the explanation about this fly. Very much appreciated.

Hi Vladimir. I'm tying these now. There's a similar fly called "Crossover Nymph" by Devin Olsen ( Crossover Nymph Fly Tying Tutorial - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5Woi6Z6l9Gjp5Y ) He protects the ribbing either by counter-wrapping with monofilament or with the thread he used to tie the fly. I must say, I like your solution better. Time will tell how the wire will hold up, but I have faith in it. The ribbing material I use is Sulky #8040 - Opalescent. It's pretty thin and strong material.
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 2 жыл бұрын
We all tie some similar flies. If we go back... Its all based on birds nest more or less... All ribbing options are good. As long as you like it. Fish won't mind for sure. Durability is not concern.... Most of us snag those before they get destroyed 😉🍺🍺
@schmoonkie
@schmoonkie 2 жыл бұрын
@@Oholisfliesandfishing I tied some flies using Sulky ribbing in the past with Antron as the dubbing underneath. After some casts into fast water, I noticed that the ribbing slipped on the body of the fly. This happened when I was too lazy to reinforce the rib with monofilament or thread. I suspect that the Antron is more slippery than natural, spiky dubbing. Using wire intertwined with the sulky rib will likely prevent the slippage on Antron. Besides, I think the fly looks better. So your method will be incorporated into more of my flies for both practical and aesthetic reasons.
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 2 жыл бұрын
@@schmoonkie i never used sulky, looks like mylar? Like flash? Is that's the case... I suppose it slides down the antron because of what you said plus because it usually isnt ribbed tightly to dive into body a bit which would prevent it from sliding. So twisting it around the wire or counter wrapping the wire would help for sure Cheers Vladimir
