Do not spend time trying to refill from the bottom. Same thing applies for transmission. Fill from the top. Get a length of heater hose - put a small 3-4" tube in one end - clamp it tight with hose clamp - feed it down to the refill hole - then stick funnel in the other end - hose slung over the top of the rear tire - pour in gear oil slowly - pull up just a hair on the funnel to create a vent for better flow
@Tacomaholic6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I won't be using the pump next time for the rear diff. PITA. The trans fill hole area is pretty tight though so the pump might be needed for that.
@MR-nz5pg6 жыл бұрын
For the A750E/A750F auto trans - use a 70" length of 5/8" OD 1/2" ID clear vinyl hose. Fits nice and snug into the refill hole - no slipping out. Refill from the top under the hood - same deal as diff - funnel. See post #29 in this thread - 5th Gen 4Runner - but same transmission used in that vehicle as 2nd Gen Tacoma. www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/186930-transmission-temp-check-mode-2.html

Just squirt it in the rear diff and the transfer case straight from the bottle. On the front diff, don't bother with a pump either. Take a piece of hose about 2 feet long stick in fill hole and squeeze bottle in hose from wheel well.

Thanks again for taking time to make these videos, they are very helpful, I’m going to be changing my rear diff oil soon on my 2010 trd sport 4x4 , I saw in other KZbin videos that they had mentioned an “ additive “ on top of the 75w90 if you have limited slip rear differential, I was wondering how I would know if I had a limited slip differential, and is adding an “ additive “ something I should be doing ? … thank you

Hi Richard. Different places charge different prices for these oil changes, but assuming you have the tools on hand and only have to buy the oil you will probably save between $50-$100. Checkout my latest video about the Transfer Case oil change (if you have a 4x4) where the dealership charges $134 and it only cost me $22 in oil. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKuloaF4ipiseKc

Just a small pro tip. Where some cheap nitrile gloves. Saves you having to clean our hands with all of that oil on them. Also if no one has said so, you can get a drill pump, which is a cheap siphon pump that you connect your drill to and drive it that way. Simple and easy. And one more thing if you think about it. I think Fumoto makes a drain valve for the differential, so putting one of those on there to do small oil quality tests without having to drain the or open the differential helps too.
@Tacomaholic6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Hadn't heard about the fumoto for the diff. I've got one for my oil pan though and love it.
@Methadras6 жыл бұрын
I looked into seeing if Fumoto makes a valve for the diff. They don't and not one I can see. However, you could put a threaded adapter to tie in a Fumoto into the diff, but I think that would stick out so far as to be impractical. Especially if you go offroad. It might even be impractical even if you don't now that I really think about it. Okay, NVM. Forget I even mentioned it. Lol.
