no oil filter on these. But some of the newer OHV Briggs motors do have oil filters.

i think it's the outboard stuff is exactly the same as the universal. And even if it isn't, there's nothing different about outboard motors so it can't hurt.

So, no filter? I bought the same model for $100, it needed a new flywheel ring gear and I replaced that yesterday. Up next, oil change. I looked everywhere, no filter. Now I see why I couldn't find one. I got lucky with the battery, this one sat all Wisconsin winter and it took and held a charge! As for the draining....turn the wheel and you'll have plenty of room for the catch pan. I also jacked up the opposite side so as to get all the oil to one side.

super tech (the stuff from walmart) is what i use too. Good stuff. Cheap and not too much smoke. Obviously those expensive synthetic oils will smoke less and leave fewer carbon deposits, but i don't think they're worth the extra price.

yea but synthetic is better flowing and gives more lubrication

For the most part I like your video you're very information about how many quarts of oil go in the motor but I have to disagree with you to a certain extent I use fully synthetic motor oil in my 12.5 motor just like this one and I received better results for Less oil consumption but I use fully synthetic motor oil and everything so don't know what to tell you on that one but I do like your video have a great day

@@alexsbikesandmotors thanks for reply. I thought someone had removed mine and plugged up the spot. My engine was leaking, I replaced the lower sump gasket. It doesn't seem to be leaking now, however, the old gasket looked intact.....it was totally baked on and took me a couple days to get all the old gasket off. fresh oil turns to a milky gray or brown soon after starting it up. flushed and put new oil in again, same thing, it's like stuff on the top swirling around the top of the oil when I drain it and look at it. Should I keep flushing the oil over and over and over until it stops doing that? or is two flushes good? the oil drain plug is in that bad spot and oil get everywhere...it's a total mess to flush it. My oil drain is slightly different than your, it is inset into the threads with a reverse 3/8 socket size female type. So you take a 3/8's extension , connect it to 3/8's ratchet and take it off, but the frame of the MTD lawnmower is in the way and oil goes everywhere, I've tried the plastic coke bottle trick, but it still goes everywhere, gets on the deck belt and all over the lower pulley ,, Thanks again with any ideas

This is going to sound weird, but I can't see the oil filter on my B&S 13hp I/C diamond, most similar engines its on the fuel line side, not sure where its hiding any idea man?

@alexsbikesandmotors8 жыл бұрын
use a long breaker bar on the bolt. If that doesn't work use a torch to heat up the case around the bolt. If nothing works you can always take out the dipstick and tip the tractor upside down to drain the oil.

20w is too heavy for this. They recommend 48oz of 5w30, 15w30 at the max and only if you're using it for very long amounts of time or if its over 100 degrees out.
@alexsbikesandmotors5 жыл бұрын
20w-50 is fine. One of the recommended oils is SAE 30, which is thicker than 20w-50 at start up when the engine is cold.

@@dansutherland6815 you can use any oil you want, as long as it has oil.... just change it ALL THE TIME, since I'm finding that it might not even have an oil filter. So type of oil means nothing. The piston isn't going to get pissed off. when you drain the oil, you will see all sorts of crap in the oil, like a film and it will be like brown, even if you just changed it. These engines emit something into the oil to change its color. There is no antifreeze in a B&S engine nor a filter, so the reason it's brown or gray instead of like clear oil is anyone's guess, again YOU CAN DO AN OIL CHANGE and then immediately drain the oil , and the oil will be brown and not clear like new oil, it will immeditalty be fogged up. the only other thing I did was change the sump gasket and the gasket material was falling into the engine and I couldn't get it all, so yea, lots of stuff falling into there. So I've drained it twice already after starting the engine just for a minute or so, and the oil comes out brownish cloudy with this weird film over the top. Like the OIL is jacked up bad, but it's probably really not, it's just that this engine cloudy's the oil up immediately, there's no other explanation other than this engine just does that. I can't keep buying more and more oil in this economy, I've already recycled it twice and it was cloudy brown both times (or a gray or dark grayish black)...Fresh brand new oil did this (SAE30). Weird.
