Watch as I Install the JLT 3.0 Oil Separator On My 2019 Ford F150 5.0L V8!
I believe this part should be something that comes on the truck from factory.
Having this separator is a great way to prevent dirty, nasty oil from recirculating back into our engines! Especially with the 5.0L already having pesky issues such as oil consumption/engine ticks. I have experienced minor oil consumption so far in my F150 and I am hoping that this part will help reduce that consumption! Go get yours from AmericanTrucks now!!

A Ford Performance Oil Separator is a much cleaner installation but you need to make a bracket to mount it on the side of the battery box. They come for Mustangs but work fine on the pickups. I've had one on since the first week of owning my 2018 bought in Oct of 2017. I check the sump every 3ooo miles and never found over an ounce of oil. Mine has been a part of the excessive oil consumption test twice and just used under a quart in 3000 miles so no engine replacement for me. My installation is also on You Tube. Any oil vapor I can keep out of the intake runners is a plus for me no matter what people say on the net. There are also separators on my wife's 2014 Honda civic and it too has oil in it every time its checked.

This does not fix your "consumption" issue... the problem is when the truck downshifts it shuts the injection pulse off and restarts creating excessive vaccum pulling more oil through the pcv systwm back into the intake.. theres a program that the dealer will install into the pcm. That STOPS this issue completely..it simply tells injectors to not stop while dowmshifting... this method was created to simply eas fuel consumption...epic fail

THey make an updated dipstick for the 2018 5.0 F-150 so i assume will be for the 2019 5.0. Sounds silly but the new dipstick is for a slighly lower oil level which I assume results in less air in the oil and maybe less crankcase pressure. SO I'd keep running the separator but get the updated dipstick so every little thing can help. hte new dipstick had me adding about 1 pint less on on oil change. I went iwth the Mishimoto separator which didnt include the hose and I had to rob the old fittings from teh factor hose. SO if i did it again, I'd use the JLT system like you did.

The primary cause are the low tension, along with plasma arc coated cylinder walls in place of being sleeved in steel. Not the PCV nor the suspicion of being overfilled and why you're given a longer Dipstick. The longer Dipstick only gives you a large window for loss. The full mark is the same height. The pcm flash is the only thing that may or may not affect a difference. Plasma arc coating is a manufacturer's means of saving costs. It's a huge blunder. Ather makes and modles are experiencing the same problem. Saving gas was the resson for lowering the tension on the rings. Less friction but it made it easier for oil to get sucked into the cylinder to become burned. Thank the EPA and CAFE. They affectly sacrificed the environment for a little gas savings. This is why it's such a blunder by the government and the manufacturer.

josh it’s a defective design from Ford, they haven’t admitted it yet, but they will. They didn’t sleeve the cylinders properly, or used cheap piston rings thus causing oil to burn in them while driving, period. No software update will fix this. I have a 20 year old F150 that doesn’t burn a drop of oil, there is no excuse for this. Ford purposely sold defective transmissions in their sedans for years, until they were sued and had to buy them back, so don’t put this past them either. Ever since they switched to the aluminum bodies, they started making less profit on their trucks due to the cost of aluminum compared to steel. They are trying to cut every corner they can to make more money on their trucks, rather than just switch back to a Steele body like everyone else. I wouldn’t touch a new F-150 with a ten foot pole anymore. The only decent trucks are the F-250s now. My advice to people is to buy them over the F-150, unless they don’t need to tow, then buy the Tundra. Breaks my heart to say it but it’s true

A catch can, although useful on the 3.5 and 2.7 turbocharged engines is pretty useless on a 2018 and up 5.0. It will NOT stop oil consumption. Color of used oil can be dependent on oil brand, condition of engine and the brand and type of fuel you use.

@Eliyourcarguy

I don’t see how the transmission would affect the engine’s oil consumption, but I am familiar with an “off throttle” rattle the truck makes. Mine does it when cold. Also, occasionally it shifts a little jerky and sometimes rough when first started if I don’t let it warm up.
@curtis1951
@curtis1951 4 жыл бұрын
@@Eliyourcarguy Because the transmission forces the engine to run at too low rpm. Causing low oil flow to areas that rely on oil pressure to operate like the cam phasors. (Cam phasor rattle) also a more serious problem is poor piston sealing caused by bad rings and cylinder bores. Ford changed the cylinder linings for 2018. It's not fixable and Ford has replaced so many 5.0L's that the factory couldn't keep up. They still haven't changed anything on the 2020's. A catch can is good but if you're truck is burning oil then it most likely won't fix your problem.

The oil consumption issue issue is due to the way the lined the cylinders. Instead of sleeve liners like the previous 5.0 they used a plasma arc something something method to save money. Problem is the material is breaking down either immediately or will eventually. No catch can is gonna fix then issue because then issue is internal. The piston rings can’t seal properly. Essentially if you are burning a lot of oil, then your engine is shot. Problem is that its brand new. But id say keep taking it to the dealer and eventually they will have to replace the block. Of course the new block will have the same issue too until they redesign the engine. I see a class action lawsuit in the future. Sucks for ppl who are outside their power train warranty because with the 18-20 5.0s its not a matter of if the lining will fail but when. Some have it immediately, others wont have it til a few years down the road. But these engines aren’t gonna make it very long any way you look at it. Shame on ford for not only going cheap and ruining a good design, but for not acknowledging the problem and implementing a fix. (Their fix is to put a longer dipstick in the engine so you end up putting more oil in the engine which is also bad for it.)

Aluminum blocks are not the problem, most import cars have had aluminum blocks for decades without cylinder liners. Porsche engines are all aluminum blocks without liners. The issue is a mismatch between the plasma liner and the piston rings during break in. Some engines will seat the rings properly and the oil consumption will stop. Others may not, unknown right now what really causes the issue. I for one think they need to be run hard for the rings to seat initially.

Maybe if people would use Motorcraft synthetic blend oil. The engine would not burn as much oil. Ford put synthetic blend in there for a reason. Putting bs you heard people talk about online. Is not going to help. Also some engines just use oil. Car and Driver used to have to add oil in Porsche all the time.

Scotty Kilmer says this is a major class problem that Ford won't admit. The problem is that Ford used an aluminum block, and instead of sleeving the cylinders, they used a ceramic coating (trying to save a few pennies). THis causes significant oil consumption. All the UTUBE fixes and the ridiculous workarounds by Ford don't fix the problem. Same on Ford.

Neutrally Neutral Toyota trucks are actually cheaper than ford. Base model tundra is about 31K, with a 5.7 engine, and they hold their value better, you’re looking at almost 40k for a F150 with similar features. You simply don’t see modern ford trucks with 300k miles on them like the old ones. I have a 2000 F150 4.6 that still runs great. I assure you you will not see 2020 F150s on the road in 2040.
@BlueOvals24
@BlueOvals24 4 жыл бұрын
@@garrettglauser8824 Base model Tundra is actually 33k and base F150 is 28k. And you have got to be completely ignorant if you don't think Ford's can make it past 300k miles. I've already seen some 2011 5.0 trucks past 250k and still running smooth. I've even seen some 5.4 trucks make it close to 300k and those were notoriously bad engines. I'm fully confident that the 2011-2017 5.0 and the 2013+ Ecoboost engines will make it well past 300k miles. Another thing to note is that the vast majority of people don't even keep their vehicles beyond 100k these days, sometimes even less. Sitting inside both trucks, the Toyota doesn't feel like it has much higher quality materials than Ford. Then they also have these very tacky and cheap feeling knobs for the radio and climate controls. Where as even in the Ford's most basic interior, those knobs feel a little more premium than the Toyota's. If we were talking about early 2000's trucks, I would agree completely that Toyota built the better truck. But today and even for the last 10 years, I couldn't recommend a Toyota over a Ford, not even for the resale value.
@garrettglauser8824
@garrettglauser8824 4 жыл бұрын
Neutrally Neutral I agree about the older fords. I’m talking about the last three years. Some genius at Ford decided to build an aluminum engine block on the 5.0, and people with literally 500 miles on their trucks are burning a quart of oil. The new ten speed transmission is also already in a class action suit, and is notorious for issues. I would buy an older used Ford but until Ford pulls their head out of their butts I would never buy a new one. Fords base is 28k, but that’s for a single cab with a v6. The base tundra comes with a fairy roomy crew can and v8 standard. I agree the interior is cheap, but the tundra has been ranked the most reliable truck for the last ten years for a reason. Mechanically it is just more reliable.

You do realize if Fords Engineers are smart enough to engineer an engine that they’re completely capable of engineering an oil catch can? There’s a reason why these aren’t factory. But then that brings us back to Ford making a better truck than competition.
