I just started to oil paint, and was so confused as to how to mix in my mediums; most videos just talk about it, but doesn't show it whether to mix the medium directly into the colors or mix it into the colors. This was very helpful, thank you :)

I can’t believe that at least one of the 20 to 30 artists I have worked with over the last 15 years didn’t explain what I have just seen here. All I got was the mantra “fat over lean, thick over thin” with no instruction about how to use solvents and mediums. Thank You so much for this revelation.
@charleswillers89673 ай бұрын
I agree. The classes I have attended taught all sorts of stuff. But did not explain/demonstrate/teach how to use thinbers or mediums. This has been the best so far. Thank you. It now makes a lot more sense.😊

FINALLY THANK YOU! im just getting started in oil and i was so overwhelmed with all the products, not knowing what to with them, which one comes first, how to use them. Now i feel like i understand a lot better!
@Lacroix9994 жыл бұрын
In my first ever intro to oil painting class my painting instructor told us “you just add more oil when you need it.” Which left me scratching my head as to know whether or not or when I even needed it if at all or just use it all the time with all the paints...so her advice was less than helpful! She was a really good artist, but not a very good teacher. I think many teachers out there have been doing their stuff for so long, they just think everyone around them knows most of what they know as well. It’s important to remember when teaching that not everyone knows what you know or knows anything at all about the topic which is why they’re there....to learn more about it.
@imperror34753 жыл бұрын
@@Lacroix999 That is an interesting thought but I'm not sure if the teachers can approach it differently other way than asking. Because the professionals in nearly anything don't actually realize what is basic knowledge and what they need to explain, it is usually on the same level so they basically can either explain everything or nothing.

Thank you, so on point ! It literally took me ages to realize that I have to paint thinner in the beginning of a painting and to basically understand how important it is to use the opacity of colors & layers .. I seriously painted my first attempts like a viking :I

Linseed is good to use with backgrounds that are softened or "out of focus", as it keeps the paint supple while you work for an extended period of time and allows excellent blending.
