1. Block out values of whole piece as under layer 2. Add in colour for each section - start with average colour (squinting down) - allows to push lighter and darker 3. Grayscale filter allows you to gauge values 4. Every piece of canvas covered in paint Details 5. Ligher/darker value shapes 6. Consider light sources - sharp/dim, warm/cool, near/far, secondary light sources 7. Consider planes (not smooth sphere) 8. Don't forget background/floor + reflected light of object onto floor

Hi again, Chris. I'm going to ask a question to which I already know and understand the answer. But, I ask because it's rarely talked about by any painting KZbinrs, and I think it may offer some value to your followers new to painting. The question, why do painters use easels instead of just a table or desk? The short answer, perspective distortion. Consider how markings on a street are painted in an elongated manner. If they were painted normal, when viewed at an angle from the driver's seat, they would appear squashed and hard to read. Thank you again for all your doing for all of us artists out there.
@surennezake63754 жыл бұрын
It's actually a really good question. I love painting outside but my easel is so upright it is hard to get the light right and often I find I've been painting in the dark. At home I paint on an angled board and I find this a lot better . Any thoughts would be great thanks 😊
@BJBreukelman4 жыл бұрын
@@surennezake6375 I'm not really one for painting outside... WAY too hot for that here in Phoenix anyway. But I think time of day is key for you. You mentioned getting the light right. Just like your indoor lighting. There's angles that work, and others that cause to much glare. You can try a different time of day when the sun is at a different angle, and take pictures of there's something you like about the lighting of your object but struggle with the glare. Or, see if either there is a way to adjust the angle of your easel... or adjust the hight of whatever your sitting on. Sometimes prep and set up for painting takes just a much creativity as the art itself. And that's probably the best advise... we're creative people and our creativity does not have to be limited to the canvas... it can extend to solving problems we run into while trying to produce our art. Did that help?
@surennezake63754 жыл бұрын
@@BJBreukelman Oh thank you so much for your reply. Very kind of you. No problem with too much sun here in UK. Your lucky if you can find it most days !!!. It's the angle of the painting area that I find difficulty with . My easel is too up right . I'm hoping to get a nice Plein Air set up sometime. Like you said I got creative at home and use a kitchen tray at an angel for doing my work at home which works really well. Definitely being an artist you have to use what ever you have to help you achieve what you want 🙂. All the best 😀
