Painting is like meditative and good for your health and maybe why you feel better when you are painting

Wow. I woke up (Canada), turned on youtube, and an alert appears to show a new Stuart Davies video! This is going to be a beautiful day indeed :-)

The video I watched, when I first found this channel, is when you just found out you were sick. You sound a lot better. Just the name of the heart problem sounds like a grim prognosis. Glad you're doing well. Your technique yields paintings that look like the old masters works. Thanks for sharing in such detail. 👍

Thank you, Stuart. - That's a great tree trunk, and I love the landscape behind it. Apart from that, you don't bore us, neither with explanations nor with the demonstrations of your skills. I'm going to watch part two, whenever you load it up. ❤

I get so excited when I get an alert about your painting. I am from Canada and after i saw the video all I can do is look at trees and their texture when i am outside now. I know what you mean when you talk about feeling worn out .and painting does the same for me and gives me calmness. I love the way you give your audience permission to go crazy with the brush and feel free to create, Keep up the wonderful work you are doing and stay well.

Your technique is natural, and I emulate this type of painting as a new oil painter. You said painting allowed you to 'relax' and not dwell on your current heart health. I say PAINT DAILY and follow your doc's recommendations. We love you, the universe loves you ! Take care of yourself, the rest will follow...🤗 I am young too, at 61, I feel it coming but my goal is to live for the moment and while in it, I PAINT, and take my doctors advice (to a degree)...

You've a little disc just above the horizon and to the right of the tree Stuart. It suggests either a pre dawn moon or a post dusk sun which I think fits in perfectly with the mood of the whole. Always a pleasure to share with you how your work almost appears instead of being worked at. Well done once again.

I think I'm speechless! 😱 Most Amazing to watch this Tree be "born" and grow into at least an 80 year old stoic Beauty! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I Love to draw trees. So when you mentioned it, I was like, yeah right. It would take months to achieve what you did in this video. But I do understand what you meant. I'll keep trying. Sorry that your health gets in the way. Mine does too, it's my brain. One day you're fine and the next you're not. What a weird way to live. But art gets us thru. Also, instant subscribe, I must see more of your work!

I have watched this a few times, particularly from 45 min to 58:30, as that’s when you explain how you achieve the finished look of a foreground with rich colored ground cover, how to achieve contrast and the look of grasses, foliage, seed pods, and then go back to add the colors after this portion has dried, to add hints of colored flowers, etc. You have a beautiful painting of a gorgeous tree trunk with red and blue flowers in the foreground of mostly transparent red oxide, & I really wanted to know how you’d achieved it. It sounds silly, but I’m over the moon at the idea of giving it a try 👩🏻🎨. I would never know how to do any of this if it weren’t for you Professor. If I were there, I’d give you such a firm happy slap on the back, you’d go flying 😜

LOOOOVE the latin names for the weeds :). It is fascinating how many intricate textures you can create with just a piece of paper towel. At one point, the tree trunk reminded me of muscles, tendons and veins inside a human anatomy. It's beautiful.

Oh I am definitely going to try this! There is a place near me called Sauvie Island, which has beautiful farmland, blue hills in the distance, and absolutely colossal trees with very interesting shapes. There must be an abundant underground water supply (of course there is!) I made a sketch the other day that has this same type of composition. I'm looking forward to trying your technique.
