282 pts and 133 goals for Lemieux in the Q that year ! I think it's safe to say no one will ever come close to that again... Not even 100pts behind.

Lol‼️. I laughed as soon as I saw the title. I like the sense of humour. 👍 Did they really "squash" them? 😜 I have a family member on that 80s Oilers team that won more than one with them (all I'll say). 😉. We gotta get you a Smartboard. You should see those things. You could write like a white board and move the stuff you write, around the board or add graphics and stuff. They use them in classrooms and they are very cool and perfect for your kinda presentation. Plus you guys could watch games or movies and stuff on it. Big screen. Oh and you could save everything you write on your boards. So for example could put together multiple presentations for the board and shoot multiple videos quickly at a later time or best lighting time or whatever. Magnets do stick to them also and safe to do so.

Sverige the 87 goals and 205 points in the regular season, as my Gretzky nut father has reminded me countless times, came in only 74 games. Gretzky was on pace to break both his own goals and points records for this season. I don't have a calculator in front of me (actually I do but on my phone and awkward to switch apps mid stride) but it averages out to either 93 or 94 goals and roughly 221 points. Of course hockey isn't mathematics, but I still think he did have a good shot at setting new records this season.

Patch 83 Yes the highest goals- and points-per game. Lemiuex 93 equals Gretzky 82.

@@SverigeiSverige It's amazing how exact that is. 69 goals in 60 games is exactly prorated to 92 goals 80 games. And in 1993 they played 84 games so if he was healthy, he could've beaten the record with an asterix! His 91 assists in 60 games translates to 121 assists in 80 games. Damn... he actually could've really beaten the goals and points record if he played a full 84 games. And a lot of that is *without* practicing. Imagine if he was healthy *and* practicing. Jeez...

This is kinda a bittersweet series for me. Yeah, it sucks to see it end, especially considering how bad it has been since, but what the Islanders did will never be topped- 19 series in a row. And they could beat you any way you wanted to play. Plus as cool as it would have been to tie the Habs record, I'd rather see them win four and finally bow out to a team led by the greatest player ever then to win five and go out in an unceremonious upset the next year.

I remember several Soviet athletes, while talking about the Miracle on ice, saying that the weren't that upset. For them losing was, as strange as it may sound, a fresh interesting thing. They hadn't lost for so long that they'd forgotten what it was like. So they looked at those American guys who were celebrating there first big triumph, with a sense of curiosity and nostalgia: "Remember, guys, when we were like them? Remember our first big win? Remember what it feels like?" I imagine, something like thing must have been going through the Isles' heads after that final.

Some fun facts about the Islanders. 1) They needed OT of course to knock out the Rangers. 2) They got down 0-2 to the Canadiens and then won 4 straight. 3) The finals were SWITCHED to a 2-3-2 format and the Isles were extremely banged up. That's the NHL trying to stop them from matching Montreal's 5 straight cups.

As a Leafs fan who lived through the Ballard era, in no way was the post lockout to 2013 era worse. The 1980's were easily the lowest point of being a Leafs fan in team history. Moves like getting rid of Lanny McDonald, stripping the C off Darryl Sittler, trading Russ Courtnall for John Kordic, etc. were unforgivable in a lot of fans eyes. I know people who stopped being fans because of moves like that. Fans were literally waiting for Ballard to die as that was the only light at the end of the tunnel. Things never got that bad post lockout to 2013

Go easy on Steve Smith in another couple of days, Shannon. The whole Oilers team put them in that predicament making the series against Calgary a lot closer than it should have been to allow a fluke bounce to decide it.

Why did New York have home Ice in the Finals?
@MrSito104
@MrSito104 6 жыл бұрын
NHL management decided before the season started that the winner of the Wales conference final would have home ice advantage in the finals that year, regardless of regular season finish. The intent was to alternate home ice advantage between the conferences on a yearly basis. I think this was the only year it was done.

Tom Barrasso had chance to be a great goalie but his team was swept in the first round by the Nordiques that year and he was in net in a 9-2 loss to Sweden in the Canada Cup Semifinal. From that point on, he wasn't quite the same and developed a reputation for not being able to win the big one. It would not be until 1991 that things came together for him with the Penguins winning the cup.

Patrick division had more teams over 500 than the entire Campbell conference. Isles had to beat the 94 point rangers then 100 plus point Caps and then Habs. And dont forget the format changed to 2 3 2 for the finals that year for some reason

Yeah but nothing was stopping Edmonton that season. They were on a mission and the Isles had won 19 series in a row. They set a record which will never be broken and they were exhausted for those playoffs. I swear all of those playoff games took a year off of each player's career with the exception of Trottier.
