Late in the year instead of chasing 1st place, the oiler braintrust brought up some pieces and changed up lines and d-pairings just for this reason. When they changed defense pairings to better suit the opposition it was already tried in the fire. The team has speed and if they get a fair shake (refs, breaks, goaltending), their good enough to win. Lets enjoy whatever happens....its takes some luck (no major injuries) and a lot of heart/determination.

Fully respect and understand these guys. The majority of fans can't cheer for another team, especially canadian teams. I am one of them. I made so much money when Tampa beat the Flames and Boston beating the Nucks in the playoffs.

Watching the Oilers success as a Flames fan is tough, but at least a Canadian team not to mention Alberta team is doing well. Just remember Oiler fans, we did not tank for years to rack up a bunch of 1st round picks. Not saying its wrong but we never had that luxary.

You forget we lost our farm team for 3 seasons which led to the decade of darkness when we needed a group of businessmen to save the Oilers from moving to Houston. It wasn't a tank job at all, it was very big mess. You try developing talent without a farm team? Jeff Deslauriers, one of our goaltending prospects, spent one AHL season with FIVE different AHL teams, and he wasn't a #1 on any of them he was loaned. Would the Flames forgo any player development to develop an Oiler prospect? I know the answer, and guess what, none of the 28 teams (at the time) would either.

They didn’t tank, they had the worst ownership and management group of all time. Something oilers fans constantly acknowledge and admit. Not to mention, of our 4 first overall picks, only 1 was a world beater. And 1 was so trash (yakupov) that he wasn’t even in the nhl after 6 years. The other two, Hall and Nuge, are solid, but not exactly franchise carrying players. What I’m saying is, sure it was nice, but didn’t make up for bad management, bad signings, and bad coaching.

You guys haven't watched the Oilers much this year - in the midst of that 16 game winning streak Skinner had a stretch of 7 one goal and 5 two goal against games. Oilers can play this way that wasn't a fluke! Guess you didn't see that 1 to 0 win in LA either
