Using natural oils during scalp massages really works in hair fall reduction. Oils such as coconut, onion, and rosemary are particularly good. I mix a few drops of rosemary oil to my liitlleextraa coconiion shampoo and hair oil set, which this really worked in getting good hair growth.

I use the ciclopirox shampoo every two weeks and clobetasol foam every other day. Both prescribed by my derm and turned my scalp around after the first usage. I was Astonished because I’ve struggled with dandruff all my life! My derm says don’t use any oil, otherwise u risk undoing the progress by the other 2. I will try the head and shoulders cream and/or oil. Thank u for the information! I thought it was interesting that I’ve seen dermatologists since I was a teen and none of them Ever said dry hair conditions come from oil build up! Stopped using all the 'natural' staples (oils, shea butter, aloe vera gels, expensive leave-in conditioners etc.). I now only wash my hair with an affordable Dark n Lovely moisturising shampoo, I condition with a Loreal Elvive extraordinary oil conditioner that I mix with grapeseed oil. I keep my hair moisturised using a very cheap moisturising spray available here in South Africa that is basically just water and glycerin. My hair has never been this soft and moisturised.

Me as a white girl, i produce a lot of sebum and since my hair is straight it’s travels through my strands with no problem, so I have to wash it everyday, otherwise it starts to look damp and greasy and it’s kinda embarrassing haha, thank the universe for dry shampoo, it has saved my ass multiple times, since I don’t always have water available to wash my head lol but yeah, sebum is grease, my natural strands benefit right away from it, but I can see how a black person with coily hair might have issues with the traveling down the strand since most of your hair defies gravity and goes up so the sebum doesn’t really travel anywhere, I think bending down and massaging your head while you finger brush your hair might help with the actual sebum dispersion

Diluting the tea tree oil should be done with mineral oil, MCT oil, or squalane for severe dandruff. Those are the only oils the yeast can't feed on because mineral oil and squalane don't have triglycerides the yeast can feed on. MCT oil does have triglycerides, but their carbon chain lengths are too short for the yeast to feed on.

Thank you so much for this video. About 20 years ago I started a natural curly hair routine where I wasn't washing a lot of the oils from my scalp, I steadily started building up a dandruff problem. My hair looked amazing but my scalp was hot mess. A friend recommended coconut oil which worked for awhile but in the long run, was making it worse. For me, I think it was oil build up on my scalp that was never getting washed off was feeding the yeast like you said. It was my husband who felt the back of my head one day and noticed that my skin was hard (gross!) but because it was underneath my hair, I never noticed this slow accumulation. Also he is lucky that after some training, I let him touch my hair! Lol! I have finally defeated my dandruff problem with the help of a scalp brush and some regular thorough cleaning along with a lot of various medicated shampoos. Luckily during the pandemic, I spend a lot of time at home and I was able to wash my hair regularly enough to get my scalp back. I never could have done it if I didn't work from home. I feel like the scalp doesn't get addressed enough. Even a lot of dermatologists don't know enough about this. The royal oils line worked great for me for awhile but I think my sensitive skin eventually started reacting to anything that gets left on the scalp for days at a time. I also got some steroidal oil from a dermatologist but it was hella expensive which just motivated me to address the "root" cause of the problem. The things that actually worked really well for me in addition to a scalp brush, is anything medicated that gets left on the scalp as a pre-treatment followed up by a well cleaning sulfate free shampoo. My favorite pre-treatment is the Davines Purifying Gel. Now that my scalp is back to being mostly healthy. I use a homemade scalp scrub made with sugar, coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar. I follow this up with a well cleaning sulfate free shampoo. I haven't yet gone back to my no-poo but maybe after a few more months of scalp rehab, I will get there. I've already been able to reduce my shampoos from 3 days a week to 1-2 days a week which is a huge milestone. I think women with curly hair get so obsessed with having shiny smooth hair that we forget about the health of our scalps. I think my hair was actually thinning but because I hated my thick hair, I was actually relieved. It's one more example of how racism infiltrates our minds and makes us make really silly decisions about our health.

My Family Fixed This - Naturally: 1. Wash your hair with Sulfur 8 shampoo, using a silicone scalp massager. 2. Let it dry naturally. Be sure to blot the excess water with a brand new towel or one that you have never used on your hair / body before. 3. That night, SMOTHER your entire head with Vaseline - wrap it in a scarf and sleep that way. Why? The easiest, most 'natural' way to kill the yeast / candida and anything else that is living on your scalp which is what is probably happening - in a matter of minutes - is to simply smother it - NO OXYGEN means no ability to breathe, thrive, grow or survive. 4. The next morning, mix bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil (whatever ration you want...it really does not matter) into a bowl (do not use a metal spoon when mixing clay - use plastic or wood only). SMOTHER your scalp with the clay, let it dry then just sit under the shower and let it rinse off until the water runs clear. You may need to do this a few times to get all of the Vaseline off of your scalp and hair - but you'll see that you've just 'killed' the yeast when not one hair follicle itches. Repeat weekly, or as often as you need to and be sure to hot wash with white vinegar and baking soda all of the bedding, towels, clothing and anything else that it may be living on. (fyi never mix bleach and vinegar). We tried this - and it literally solved the problem overnight. If there is a new issue we just repeat the process. Good luck and God Bless!

I just shaved all my hair off and it looked like I had mange😢😢 it was so sore and even after a wash the next day it was buildup on my scalp still! I have never had a great relationship with my hair and now I’m newly married and my confidence has declined because of my scalp and hair issue. I am really hoping this tips from these women help because I’m willing to try anything at this point. I don’t even need the long hair I just want my scalp to be healthy

I feel you! Sometimes I feel like shaving it all off it hitches so much. But then I'm scared and wonder how horrible my scalp must look under all that thick hair. I'm talking crusty sometimes bleeding inflammed scalp 😔 Then Ijust try to remember that beauty comes from within and that I'm not my hair.

@9crimes87 👋🏽 Hi. I'm reading your comment for the first time. I don't know if you found anything that works. But I had the same problem as you. I dilute ACV/apple cider vinegar and gently rub it into my scalp and rinse after shampooing. Then condition (your choice conditioner) then rinse out, and I use Neem Oil 100% with castor oil and peppermint oil. Use sparingly. You judge. I use this on my scalp only. The Neem oil stinks but works. It kills fungus and parasites on the scalp. And the peppermint soothes. The castor oil promotes growth. To moisturize your hair only. Grab a black own product for moisture, like TGIN and Mielle and or The Shea moisture leave in moisturizer. I hope this helps if you haven't found a solution yet.🙂🙏🏽And if your scalp is still bleeding, See a dermatologist instead. A doctor can handle this for you.🙂🙏🏽 8:47

I pretty much quit doing anything at all to my hair. It wasn't my plan. My husband died just after our son turned two and I was just trying to survive. But this is what I found, the less I do, the better my hair grows. I'm serious, my hair got long left alone. It doesn't itch at all. I think my yeast simply died because I fed it nothing.

I have seborrheic dermatitis and I went to a derm for treatment. For years I had a burning, itchy scalp but I was a diy natural mixing up concoctions trying to help it. That was just making my situation worse in hindsight as I was just walking around with damaged, dehydrated, dirty hair. I got prescribed 2% ketoconazole shampoo and my flakes are gone but it is drying. For maintenance, I use livso scalp lotion to help not use the keto every week. Also, its good to keep cycling different ingredients like salicylic acid, ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, etc to prevent the yeast from getting accustomed to the ingredient and causing it to overgrow again. This is just my personal opinion but oils/butters and at home remedies are not it. I was a 7 year diy natural and all the acv rinses, black soap shampoos, ayurvedic masks and herbal blends with essential oils couldnt help my scalp. Dehydrated hair with an oily, inflamed scalp isnt healthy. Any style that is preventing you from accessing your scalp regularly should not be in your hair. Scalp health is important.

Thank you so much for your informative and insightful videos! I prefer water-based serums to oils or grease on my scalp. The Curlsmith Scalp Stimulating Booster seems to be very hydrating for my scalp without ruining my hairstyle. So refreshing! Feels like a little morning shower just for my scalp. The Curlsmith Full Lengths Density Elixer is scalp hydrating for me, too. Perhaps other, more affordable options, such as the scalp serum from The Ordinary, would have a similar hydrating effect on the scalp as well. @The Style and Beauty Doctor Could you do a video on water-based scalp serums that includes expert medical opinions about theses products? Are these just hype? Water-based scalp serums do not seem to get much attention in these internet streets. However, my moderately dry scalp seems to appreciate the hydration. Thanks again!

Just realized this today. My scalp has been incredibly dry this week and I applied more oil this morning but the oil didn't make any difference. Just remembered that I cowashed my scalp last wash day (and the product was expired) so that may have contributed to more buildup. I thought it was just dehydration. Dandruff is freaking weird - now that my seborrheic dermatitis-caused flakes are under control, I've realized that my scalp at "heathy" baseline is OILY AF. I've actually been washing my hair...twice a week. With ciclopirox shampoo. And by washday, my scalp is actually incredibly oily all over again. (Keeping the medicated shampoo only to my roots, rinsing, and then using my preferred shampoo for my whole head has ameliorated the majority of the drying in my case.)
