This doesn’t occur to most people when they think of Danny Elfman, but the man has such a great voice. I would almost describe it as beautiful in an alternative way.

Unless you were from the 80s or into New Wave, many people aren't even aware Danny Elfman was once in and led a band. But the man has such great talent not only in writing but singing as well.

@@Milliardo5 i think it’s because his first few albums were kinda wacky. As much as I like dead man’s party, weird science and no one lives forever, it’s songs like we close our eyes, is this and especially not my slave that made me like them

People don't realize the impact Danny Elfman has had upon American pop culture through his early music career and subsequent film soundtrack and media work. You can hear his influence in modern cross-cultural sound now-the sound of 80's Orange County American/Mexicali Punk-it's own sound if the Modern Era we now live in. That's all I gotta say about dat.

This is their second take at the song. The first effort failed because the accordion player started with far too slow a beat and Danny called out of and restarted it, keeping a very obvious beat with his right hand. At the conclusion of a perfect take John Avila yells " one more time".

An Oingo Boingo New Year's concert with my first boyfriend, sometime in the '80s, a time of exploration, feeling invincible, on the 'cutting edge' in our own minds, muscle shirts, fishnet stockings, horrific drugs that were so cool at the time, 91X radio station, and Oingo Boingo was so pivotal in forming what we believed to be originality, which it was, and is. "We close our eyes" is one of the best of their tunes. So much fun. And such a wonderful, painful, joyous, explorative, interrogative, thoughtful, mind-bending period for me. Thanks for the crazy, serious, sensuous, and comical let alone dancing in our madonna-styled bleach blonde hair, headbands, big earrings, bangles, short boots, mini-skirts, polka dots, and wild abandon inherent in this period. Thanks for the posting.

GoddessOfWhim2003 Have you seen some of the other pieces from this concert. I'd say he's got crazy stage presence when the song is right. For instance in No Spill Blood, and Dead Man's party he was dancing crazy and dragging around his bandmates on the stage. One on his back even, then started slightly singing while still laying on the floor while recuperating. These performances must have been awesome.

Tons of people want them back together but during an interview with Danny he said people are constantly asking him that & he says he thinks about it allot but once he's mastered something, he might think about it but he prefers to move forward. Spends allot of time in his studio it seems...he did say he's got allot of ideas that may come to fruition tho. See how he looks so outgoing, smiling & making contact with the audience? He said the truth is he really HATES PEOPLE & he's a shy boy - LOL!! I hte people too ~>Natural Soulmates, especially this particular song. Gotta give Richard some credit tho; he got Danny started but I say he would have become a GOD no matter what!!! (I think he really hates the marsh pits cuz he got hurt real bad a few times - a**holes taken souvenior then taken too much...that's what in their later years there's that big barrier protecting him from these jerks - Just be happy & thankful you got there period. In earlier years he'd stand rght on the dance floor with he 3 main guys & later he propped up the horns & as they expanded - well, you've seen the videos!!

@piipsports, I was there and I have to dispute that a little. They played this song twice (and twice only) because the first time through it was too slow. The voice is bassist John Avila teasing Danny. They also had to re-start Controller (which they show in the video) but those were the only repeats at the show. The Boingo Anthology version of We Close Our Eyes contains a tiny bit of Danny's comments to the crowd and band before repeating the song, but not enough to give it context.
