The fruit did not change Luffys personality guys. Luffy had the personality to begin with, which is why it awakened. He was the right person for it. That's what Shanks realized, Luffy might be the right person for this fruit.

thing is in the manga it realy felt like a possession. however the anime droped a few additional lines to clarify luffy is still in control and aware. in the manga that clarification comes way later, when luffy is asked bout gear5th n he replies sth along the lines. "thats me when ever ifeel the most free." the anime also made clear that he is already using all types of haki in this form. which the manga also didnt communicated. for the manga community another gear seemed possible since, gear5th could have been awaking all by itself, with luffy unaware n not even using haki at all.

Yeah, I don't get why people are trying to head canon that there is no Luffy. That were watching a fruit who took over the mind of a child. That sucks. Like, why try to head canon your way into something that makes the story so much worse.

We missed Luffy goofiness fighting style in romance dawn saga and some arc of pre time skip that's why this gear 5 is super nostalgic we love the way Luffy fight with childish fighting style again

I guess now we know that when it comes to Devil Fruit Zoan Mythicals, the abilities of the users act somewhat like a mixed Dual-Fruit Type Power-user. Like for example with Marco & Yamato, their Zoan Mythicals make them a dual-mix of Zoan-transformer & Logia elemental; like with Marco's Fire Phoenix and Yamato's Ice Wolf-God. And I guess for Luffy's Zoan Mythical it makes him a dual-mix Zoan-transformer & Paramecia-superhuman of rubber
