The original Cruella didn't hate dogs, she didn't care about any animal. She only liked them for fur coats, which given the time the story is set, is kind of accurate to a lot of socialites. In the 1996 movie, Cruella is a lot like this one. She is a successful fashion designer and only gets the idea for a Dalmatian coat when Anita doodles one at work. Again though, she is only in it for the coat, she isn't just killing animals for fun, unlike the original book. Wow, that Cruella is a piece of work.

I really really enjoyed this movie. Actually editing my own short video about it as I watch this. I see that most of the people who dislike it are the ones who have trouble separating it from other 101 Dalmatians media, and I gotta say I don’t get it. Cruella is very plainly not a prequel to anything else, but a standalone narrative, and AS such it’s surprisingly well crafted and engaging. Easily my favorite of Disney’s recent live action output.

I've seen people reduce it to "She hates dalmatians because they killed her mom" and I just don't think they took the time to watch the movie. She rescues a dog, blames herself then The Baroness for her death and in the end takes ownership of them and gifts Anita and Roger a pair of them. It's a Cruella De Vil origin story, nothing more. But that doesn't jive with people wholly enamored with 101 Dalmatians.

Cruella was probably the best live action reimagining Disney's done- and rebooting the universe with Cruella as a Harley Quinn-esque anti hero was the right move. This felt like the director had a lot of creative control (he also did I, Tonya) and they didn't stand in the way or try to kidify this- it was awesome. I really hope more reimagined Disney movies are like this than Beauty and The Beast- this felt like Joker/Harley Quinn/meets Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels with a hint of Devil Wears Prada and the Italian Job. Anita knowing Cruella from school was in the original novel by Dodie Smith ("The Hundred and One Dalmatians" was a book before it was ever a film). She was expelled for drinking ink. This film is mostly it's own thing and invented a background for Cruella but there are a few hints of the original book Cruella here - like in the novel and unlike the Disney films she isn't a mean boss to Anita (or Mrs Dearly as she was in the book), she's the last of her family line and she's depicted as beautiful if eerie looking.

Okay, here's the deal. Walt Disney bought a house for his parents. He loved his parents. But a gas leak happened in the house. The gas leak put his dad in the hospital, but killed his mom. He felt so guilty, that he kills the parents in the movies, in memory of his parents. Even if he doesn't kill both, he usually kills the mother, and the dad is mostly absent.

SEQUEL MAYBE PLOT: What if like Roger was convinced by the Baroness because he used to work for her that that was actually a dalmatian coat and dragged Anita into it because he knows that Anita is kinda Cruella's bestie so he tricked her into marrying him but Cruella came over to look at the dogs to base her fashion on them so she made a fur coat out of fake fur but then Roger thinks its real and Anita thinks Cruella betrayed her by skinning her dogs when the dogs were just there to play with their dogs. Also, they got another dalmatian and they had a baby because they thought just one dalmatian would be lonely. Also, Cruella makes her own fashion line with all kinds of different fashion and Artie helps.

I was confused on what the baroness knew and when. She talks to her assistant about the baby she had as if she knew the baby was cruella. She knew cruella was alive, but when did she find out? So did she know cruella was her daughter before the cliff or not?

I love this so movie sooo much! I saw in theaters with my family and a week we payed for it on Disney+ because we all loved it so much! Also at 19:38 the style of Cruellas hair here is a reference to Glen Closes Cruella from the live action 101 Dalmatians

I agree about the ending credits. Emma Stone play as Cruella love dogs and the 101 Dalmatian doesn't happen and we already know what happened in that an which is a good idea. And the second one the baroness return like escape from prison sounds like a good idea and get revenge for Cruella.

This movie was the absolute best live action Disney movie EVER. The outfits where a 1000000000000000/10, Emma stone played cruella PERFECTLY, and it was just the right about of action and drama that the twist of the movie was so amazing

When I went to watch it in the cinemas when it finished me and my cousin started to discuss the next film...we thought it might be either called ‘De Vil’ or ‘101 Dalmatians’ (De Vil might be able to be put together with Cruella, 101 Dalmatians just the normal story)

Plot twist, the Baroness comes back, kills Cruella and takes her identity. Horace and Jasper have been forced to be her henchmen and then 101 Dalmatians happens. That’s why Anita’s schoolmate looks so old.

I absolutely loved this movie and it would be my favorite Disney live-action if it wasn´t for the fact that the Cinderella (2015) movie exist, is just so gorgeous and Lily James was stunning, so ... since you haven't seen the other live-actions yet, I highly recommend you that one, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book and Christopher Robin. I would love to see your reaction to any of them 🥰

I think the baraness is the one who will be after the dogs as revenge at Cruella and the people who helped her. The dogs did like her more they sat when she told them to and didn’t want to leave her in the fire. They also made the baraness way older and meaner fitting the og Cruella

I absolutely agree by the end. This must be a retcon, or at least in my head it is. I'm just curious which direction the sequel will go. If it's going to directly depict 101 Dalmatians or do a totally different version, but at the same time, making sure to honor the classic story, and how Cruella's character path will turn out to be in a sensible way.

I just finished this movie like 20 minutes ago. Two, well three things popped in my head... I freaking LOVE Emma Stone, I need the disc in my collection, and I need the soundtrack, well, in my collection.
