In 1985 I lived in Oklahoma and the OHP used a single beacon 'bubble gum' roof light with 4 rotating sealed beam lights, with one of the four turned upward a few degrees at a slight angle - a 'Hill light' they called it. Florida Highway Patrol used a similar light back in the day but *without* the hill light. They switched to a full light bar back in the early 80's though. Hard to believe anybody used those old single beacon emergency lights!

I remember those single beacon rotating lights FHP used to use back in the day. The one's FHP had were rather tall and really made the patrol car appear 'top heavy'. Back in the late 1970's I was a volunteer firefighter and the ONLY emergency light available to us at that time was a simple teardrop rotating dash light but today firefighters have pretty much EVERYTHING available to them. Times have definitely changed when it comes to emergency lighting.

Mike Hansen Many departments at the time mounted red lights on the side of their trucks like engine 51 from Emergency. And in the 1970s there were already full lightbars like the Federal Signal Twinsonic.

greenrefrigerator here in Illinois we like slicktops like in my profile picture with the decals on the side saying what they are and the lights on the inside and side runners in the stepplates under the doors. State police usually slicktop caprices with the lightbars in front and back windows wigwags and taillight flashers (that's the bad thing bout the Chevy 'other then it's a Chevy lol' is that there's no place to add hideaways where they can really be seems and be affective)

Natasha Kozel I just googled it it's called a soundoff signal nforce lightbar. They have these for the top and visor lightbars Verisons they run bout $500 for the interior Verison and over a thousand bucks for the rooftop version.

the soundoff signal Nforce lightbar is absolutly insainly bright so are all the nforce series lights i personally run them on my traffic control trucks they are worth every single penny

It's about the officers safety? What when it blinds us as we try to see to get by them. I was almost hit going around their bright ass lights in the other lane topping a hill. Also if there's flashing lights on both sides of the road, you can't go slow enough to see them directing traffic. Why is it that a single light on the dash and maybe 2 in the rear window worked for yrs. But now they gotta have a light every inch of the vehicle. There's some states that have different colors of lights. Study's show that red and blue lights draws a driver toward it. It's TRUE if you notice coming upon flashing lights if it draws you somewhat.

Now there are new LEDs that are dimmable, they would be excellent in lightbars so how long before they spend tax dollars to upgrade again? Why not upgrade the cameras instead? Or remove the dark window tint from the windshields?

The dimming function is as simple as connecting the right wire in the bar to a switch.

Those are completely illegal on any road! Guaranteed it says off-road use only on the packaging. Any kind of police vehicle pulls you over with their off-road lights on, and the person gets in an accident while you try to pull over because you are blinded by an illegal lightbar... I smell a ton of lawsuits. I can understand turning them on when the vehicle has stopped and you're ready to approach the vehicle, but never before. And people with an astigmatism... Dayum

And they say nothing about it's ok for cops to blind your azz though 😂 I think you're a liar and don't have astigmatism because you'd crash into something if you did when you pass an emergency vehicle with the lights on. And lastly... No I'm not a firefighter either. Grow up

And don't forget that they should also have to pay for their own insurance so that if they are sued a couple of times they won't be able to afford it and that's one way of getting rid of a bad cop
