I think what's missing is that hump centered at 600-800 Hz that gives Dime's tone its signature crunch. But overall, turns out that the bad rap on these wasn't really justified, cus that's a pretty nice foundation to work with! As far as the Precision Drive, I find that it makes things sound a _liiittle bit_ too spanky, even for Dime's standards - and the L500XL and Dimebucker are already quite spanky to begin with. They have this very prominent peak at around 2.1 or 2.2 kHz, which does come across quite a bit in distorted tones... so that might actually be the "spike" you're referring to.
@Timbo66692 жыл бұрын
A ts9 would’ve been better…
@fircej2 жыл бұрын
these newer modern drive pedals are more for lower tunings, definitely not on a Dime tone. I have an Airis Effects savage drive and I can agree it is a bit too spanky for Dime standards

@stevenhirsekorn34442 жыл бұрын
That spikyness is mainly prevalent with the precision drive, it removes too much of the oomph from the guitar and the bright control Is definitely too high and the gain is a little low from the drive. The thinner jangly overdrive settings definitely are nasty but not in the way you want I think

I had a Randall RG100ES years ago, It had a ton of gain which was surprising for its age, but it really didn't sound like Dime's tone. I eventually realized that he used a ton of post EQ and that's how he got his tone. He took a mediocre, muddy sounding amp and made it sound good and unique. Unfortunately I sold that amp, but luckily got pretty much all the money back I had into it because of its value and rarity.
@dennismcdonald26072 жыл бұрын
Muddy!? You must have had a dud or a 'tired' amp!? I have one and people cannot believe how tight and powerful that amp is straight in without ANY pedals whatsoever. A sleeping giant of an amp. Nice I picked up one in black for $150 in 2019. Definitely mid forward. It works excellent on top of another 4x12 with lower focused speakers.

i recently got myself an AB/Y pedal, which i almost exclusively use as Y splitter, and hooked it up to 2 little vox practice amps but damn i can get both definition and overtones and squeaks from an overdrive not all teh way cranked, then get the extra bass and the >2khz high frequency dirt that really gives you the idea it's super distorted (the gain is really higher and the sound is more compressed on that amp), it has taht pumped up bass without choking out the mid harmonics on bassy feedback add to that you can control the mix of the two, and the combinations are virtually endless anyway, taht has nothing to do with this big proper amp, but i just wanted to mention i'm happy as a pig in shit with the 2-amp best of both worlds setup
