The perfect metal live rig for $600! And yes I know you can get your grandmas old tube amp and a can of pringles for $50 and it’s probably going to slay small babies all across the world, but my demo is showcasing new equipment!

I've owned both tube and solid state, have been playing 15 years, and the only difference is ever hear between solid state and tube amps is that tube amps stay clean a little longer before they distort. No audience and no mix is ever gonna be able to tell the difference, it's all mostly in your p.a what sound you get live.

It's the same like impact of wood type on the tone of an electric guitar. It's a myth, but too much people believe it. I've played on an old Dynacord Bass King T with 45 Watts and it was one of the loudest amps I've ever seen/heard. Same goes for the famous Vox AC30. Even the small Orange Micro Terror can keep up with a full band, as long as you have a good cab with a high sensitivity
@joshuasalgado4694
@joshuasalgado4694 5 жыл бұрын
Rene W I still have a problem with this debate because if you actually play the guitars unplugged (or acoustically) you can hear a massive difference. I have an Ibanez with and alder body, and Birdseye maple neck with a Wenge stripe running through and that guitar sounds extremely bright vs the Matt Heafy sig guitar which sounds dark and beefy because of the mahogany body and ebony feet board. When it comes down to being plugged in the pick ups make the biggest difference but you can’t completely put off the tone wood debate as a myth.

I like how there was such a turnabout on the Boss metal zone. I can’t tell you how many videos I saw or other KZbinrs talking about how the “Metal zone” pedal was the worst pedal ever made and reading the comments section most people tended to concur. Now the boss metal zone is known as a quality pedal with a massive sound. It’s an interesting topic for me because I’ve always used a boss metal zone ever since like 1994. And always thought it was a really good all-around distortion pedal that made you sound fucking awesome. I’m glad it’s finally getting the praise it deserves. Shit, do you remember the DOD Death metal pedal? That shit sucked! It was a valiant effort but by comparison the boss metal zone was truly at a step above. 🤘

If you wanna go with a tube head in this price range, a Jet City JCA50H will work great for metal, if you drive it a bit with an overdrive. And for the remaning few €, you can get a cheap tubescreamer copy, and there you go, a full tube rig for metal. I ran this exact setup for a few years and it was awesome.

Caesar thanks for the vote of confidence lol 😞. I start the second half of my business plan classes on the 23rd of October. My luthier classes starts in Jan. My second half of my business plan classes has us finalize our business plans. But I am going to do this because there are a group of us that traditionally get ignored. It’s not that big of a secret but I’ve worked hard and I don’t know enough yet to just say it’s x kind of ppl I’m dedicating the whole company to , kinda like Ola did for metal players, but I’m afraid someone with more means will take the idea and run . I have a bit more to do yet before I’m close to launching So no, no scam because I have no product built yet to scam with. I thanked you because like an amateur I just assumed everyone would say good luck and let us know a soon as you can. I can say I’m a left handed guitar player and I had so much respect for the fact that Ola could give metal players a company that dedicates itself to them that I got inspired and thought I could do the same for another group of players. So I thank you for pushing me for an explanation I wasn’t trying to be scammy sounding I promise lol if there is such a phrase...no I’m just a normal ole Canadian with a dream. 😀

tube watts and solid state watts will give the same output volume in dB... it's the way they distort when you start getting to that max output that makes the perceived volume of one seem louder than the other so if you can make a solid state power section that either breaks up in the same way as a tube power section or stays cleaner closer to that max output then it can keep up at the same wattage (my bet is boss is doing the second thing because i doubt anyone has figured out the first bit)

I use a Peavy Citation Mark VIII bass head, Peavey 2x15 and a Kustom 2x12. An Ibanez Destroyer II (86' model) with an EMG 85 at the bridge and two Telecaster Silvers side by side at the neck. I installed individual volume and tone control for each pick up. I use a few different pedal set ups for different styles of music, I play outlaw country, blues, hardcore punk and metal. I have been building this piece by piece since I was thirteen and I am 38 now. total spent on my rig including pedals is $800-$900. I got all of it through pawnshops and yard sales over the years and just kept what I liked. You couldn't put this same rig together for anywhere near that now. I only paid $100 bucks for the Peavey amp and cab, $25 for the Kustom 2x12. $100 for the guitar and got the pick ups free from friends that changed theirs out. The pedals are all from finding deals over the years and some were gifts. My more modern stuff is more expensive but I still love my main rig, it's never let me down and sounds insanely heavy or as twangy and pretty as I need. Any new players out there needs this one piece of advice, do not be afraid to buy used and pawn shops in small towns with drug problems always have hidden gems for real cheap. Also don't sell your old pedals unless you have too, sometimes you get something that doesn't quite sound perfect and later get setting else and pair the two and you can fall in love, even cheap pedals are worth holding onto. Do not get stuck on brands, it can cause you to miss out on a lot of potential.

I'm also a guitarist, and I personally would rather use a modeller on stage and have my own IEM rig. I've also seen many videos on running 3 HX stomps, 3 Iem rigs, all in one rack case. And personally this is what I'd recommend for bands who are getting out of pub venues and into larger scale venues, if you take the hx stomps and put them on stage you could probably fit another iem rig into the rack case

There are also a few decent tube amps for about $400 bucks brand new, or about $250 used (like the Bugera T50 Infinium or Jet City JCA 50) and Mooer PE100 multi effects unit which cost about $50 dollars new, or the GE100 multi effects with built in expression pedal that cost about $67 dollars new, and either will work well in the amp's effects loop. Most people don't realize that 100 watts can get you thrown out of some clubs for being too loud and even 50 tube watts should be more than enough to give everyone in a small club a nice case of tinnitus. The great thing about the Katana is that solid state tends to be more reliable than tube amps and you never have to worry about a tube burning out in the middle of a set.

I bought the Peavey Vypyr Pro with the Sanpera foot controller from Guitar Center used for 550 bucks. In my opinion, the gains on the Peavey blow away the Katana, and yes, I own the Katana 100 combo. The gain circuit on the Peavey is analog, not digital. It also has 500 user preset patches and two Digital Signal Processors so the Analog circuit is separate from the DSP. I also have access to the two foot controller volume/wah pedals which can be assigned to up to three parameters each of any of the effects/amps/stomps in the signal chain to control them in real time - per patch. It also has trailing reverbs/delays so when you change patches the reverbs/delays are not cut off immediately - unlike the Katana. The Peavey also has 65 amp models compared to the Katana's 5 amp types. For 600 bucks, I'll go with the Peavey with the Sanpera all day, every day. And yes, the Peavey is loud enough to hang with any normal live setting. Don't get me wrong, the Katana is a great little amp, but it is very limited compared to the Peavey. Yes you got the Katana head. Now shell out another 120 bucks for the foot controller, and you still don't have volume/wah pedals, or a looper.

I have a Katana head in addition to a PRS Archon 50, Carvin 100XB, Rocktron Taboo Twin, Blackstar HD20, and Quilter 101 head. I have used the Katana live and at practice, super easy to carry, great for home use with the variable wattage and monitor speaker in the head. It’s something I grab when I need it all in one package and a smaller rig with loudness potential.

Don't forget that the Katana Head has a built-in speaker, which means for you young people with limited budgets, leave your cab at the rehearsal space and bring the amp home and keep practicing in the bedroom. That little 4" speaker sounds surprisingly good. (Also the acoustic mode is for use with piezo-acoustic guitars, it's not an acoustic emulator, like in some amps.) I'm not sponsored by Boss either, but I 'm open to it. :-)

Jet City 100HDM and a Harley benton g212 vintage. High gain monster and it sounds amazing! I think Thomann has now taken the 100HDM out of the assortment, but somewhere there will still be the amp. 100/50W full tube, crunch and overdrive channel, depth control. . . everything you need for high gain, and although it only has one crunch channel, you can drive it super clean if you play around a bit and try it out. Better than the cheap Bugera amps, which quickly break down hardware (I speak from experience). The Jet city has been with me for 4 years now and does its job reliably. I can only recommend anyone with low budged! I bought him as a beginner and still love him as an advanced.
