Smolensky Orthodox Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries, founded in 1738 on Vasilyevsky Island of St Petersburg, Russia.
Historically, it was the place where they buried the people from Smolensk who came to build the new capital city of St Petersburg.
Xenia of St Petersburg Chapel is located there right on the place where she was buried.

In Brooklyn, there is Greenwood Cemetery is it so beautiful that some people celebrate wedding there. Wedding at cemetery, could you believe it?

Here in England weddings can be held in the church, but the photographs are often in the graveyard. In my own village the earliest memorial stones are in the early C18 (as in Sergei's video) so these gravestones adorn the wedding photographs. The church dates from the C11 so I do wonder what happened to all the old memorials.

That's the only guarantee we have in this life 🙏. We are here only temporarily... then we give back the body. And only individually can we save our souls... religions don't matter in the end. Only our relationship with what we perceive as God and how we fulfill our obligations to that power and ourselves. Peace and blessings to all.

This was very serene and beautiful. I love walking through cemeteries and wondering about the lives of the people who are buried there. And autumn is the perfect time for that. This particular cemetery is quite an exquisite place. I love the old stones as well as the new ones with photographic images. I’ve seen a few eras of this top of monument. With etched photographs and with some kind of printed on ceramic photo process that is like a real photograph printed for the ages. I highly connect with these. I also enjoyed the stories you told. Mr. Tra-La-La. The one about the husbands coffin that was dislodged in a flood and floated to the wife’s door. Wow. And the Navy flag draped upon the monument. I’ve never seen colored stone like that in funerary design before. Excellent video Sergey. 🌾🍁🌞🍁🌾

Peaceful walk in a beautiful cemetery with a gorgeous autumn setting. This is one of your best videos ever. Thank you for posting and especially for showing the inside of the Orthodox church. So good to see real flowers on graves. Here in England so many people leave plastic flowers. As warden I have to remove these after they start to look tired but I wonder if the people laying these expect them to be there forever. If so, they will be disappointed.

What is the diagonal line at the bottom of the cross? Thank you for taking us through the Russian cemetery. Love from the US!

because the oblique crossbar symbolizes two robbers crucified next to Christ, one believed in Christ as God and repented of his crimes and went to heaven, the part of the crossbar that is higher, and the one below symbolizes the robber who scolded Christ, and did not repent of his crimes and went to hell (in the Orthodox tradition there is no concept purgatory, that is, a person's actions are immediately weighed and which outweigh for life, the soul goes there)
