Or you know even like, I don't know, asked for people's consent. That's probably the most messed-up thing, they're just luring people to their death, to die like rats on a sinking ship, and they have no idea why any of this is happening. They could've started this experiment with like prisons and penitentiaries; with overcrowding and how many people are on death-row or life-sentences. Or even just try to offer it as "experimental treatments", give them the full info, and have them fill-out NDA's. They can do months worth of treatment on that beach in like 20 minutes, I don't think it'd be that hard to sell to people who are desperate enough; what's three months of life in 20 minutes in compared to full decades of it in real time.

It was a good movie, it saddend me how Maddox and her brother missed out on their entire childhoods because of these monsters and lost their parents as well. Half their lives cut short in the name of science. Its gonna be hard for them to adjust as lives as adults now since they still think like children because few hrs ago they were children.

It probably won't be as difficult as the premise. I mean Kara and Trent said earlier in the film as they aged that they felt that their thoughts were changing and so it's safe to assume they matured mentally as well as physically. I think Trent's response about how his aunt might feel was also really thoughtful and similar to how an adult would respond.

I think a lot of people overlook the fact this was based on a comic book. You can read it online, it is easy to find and it is only 80 pages or so. This ending wasnt in the comic book. In the comic book, you never find out what makes the time on the beach pass so fast and there is no conspiracy behind it. The whole story is just a parable for our life cycle, and all it entails. The characters in the movie all represent a certain social class, together they are a sample of all the basic personality types you will meet in life. However this does not jump at you like it does in the comic book. The arrogance, hypocrisy, vanity and bigotry of the young woman and her husband representing the upper class was very palpable in the comic book, in the movie you almost dont understand why the doctor is so biased against the rapper (in the comic book a muslim I believe). The pointless arguing and fighting of the main couple representing the middle class never satisfied just with the middle is also better in the comic book as Bernal and Vickie Krieps have little chemistry despite both being good actors. And the male nurse and his wife were basically educated lower class, thus being the most grounded and normal of the bunch. And the rapper/muslim was the working class, kinda ignored by everyone else at best, and he kept his distance and kept it real. The kids falling in love, losing virginity, getting pregnant, was more romantic, you could feel the innocence and wide eyed optomism. In the movie it just kinda happens. And the aging is not as visually apparent, probably due to a lower budget, but it should have been much more visible. Plus in the movie the entire concept is harder to accept, when the movie acts as something serious and realistic, yet everyone behaves completely weird considering only hours are passing and instead this needed IMO a fairy tale atmosphere similar to Lady in the water. I think the movie spent too much time on trying to create tension, or to be scary, but instead it should have almost completely focused just on the characters, their psychology, their emotions and how they make peace with the situation after fighting it. Shyamalan simply should have chosen whether he is making a philosophical rumination about life, or a thriller with a twist, but it couldnt be both and it should have been the former. Basically, after the movie ended, like the comic book, it should have made you think about your life, and all the petty stuff we obsess over when so little of it matters considering how quickly everything is over.

As much as a "Happy" ending this is supposed to have, that place would have been kept up and running like the way Unit 731's scientist were pardoned if they handed over their research. Still though a great movie, defiantly caught me off guard with the twist.

While the plot may be a bit like swiss as some points, I do like how the entire reason the two kids got out was because the Manager's child was being a good kid instead of being a snob-nose. He kept telling him right to the bitter end, "you can play and make friends with all the rich kids, but you just can't with any of the Make-a-Wish ones." And he was just like, nope. And it was cute, after all of the 6 year old interjections (like, my god, in one day you had baby, lost baby, lost someone you loved, lost your parents, and then towards the end you were just like "yup, we're 60 and probably gonna die in a few hours. Let's build a sandcastle,") that the little kid who unknowingly got the devil's halo treatment got to meet the two friends he saved by accident, albeit a bit wrinklier than the day before.

I was hoping they would show the cliffs were part of an ancient meteor impact. The rocks/cliffs were an unknown element or something like that. M. Night probably thought that would be too specific and "comic booky". Better to leave it a mystery. But they did make it clear that the cliff face had a very unique color and texture.

To think, they could have avoided this if they hired trained snipers to kill the "kids" as soon as the adults died. The kids weren't really a part of the experiment, so no loss there, and the company doesn't seem to have any qualms about killing anyone (at least indirectly)

The problem with this ending was the abrupt shift in themes that only exists because there had to be a classic "Shamyalan twist". Going from a movie about valuing the time we have left to a movie about scientific ethics doesn't mesh well, especially in the span of a couple minutes. Logically this ending works out but it clashes with the main themes that led up to this point. Despite liking this movie, I feel that neither scenario was explored to its highest potential, and also that Shamaylan prioritizing a "twist/reveal" can really muddle the story. Imagine if he wasn't burdened with having a final reveal, and he could just explore these two themes in unison throughout the whole movie and somehow make it feel aligned.

Possibly the most annoying and disappointing thing about this movie, is that the supernatural element of particular time acceleration just isn't explored, it's just a movie element to raise the sense of suspension, science fiction & horror. So there's this part of the beach where time moves faster, but only on a molecular level. Not like anything from Interstellar or anything like that, and a Pharma Company just happens to take notice, and takes advantage of it, by pretending to be a Resort, tricking people into being genie pigs as they waste away by time in just a single day or two. So you're telling me NO ONE else knew about this part of the beach????

This wasn't explored in Sand Castle, the graphic novel it's inspired from, either. The story also doesn't give the reader closure about what happens next as the baby born in the graphic novel actually survives birth and makes it to the next day as everyone else died.

I know its a common complaint, but I think explaining how and why the beach rapidly ages people would take away from the movie. Even the writer of the book didn't write the reason and I think it would've spat in the face of the work this movie was based on. Besides, there are so many places and things on this planet that are still a mystery to science, and not all of them _have_ to be solved imo.
