The German Codecies used to call them by different names that I honetsly still love more than stern guard and vanguard. The Protector-Guard and the Expurgator-Guard veteran squads. I loved the naming convention since it seems like something the imperium would do by latinifiing them a bit more. Also the sternguard does protect the integrity of the the line and the vanguard goes out to punish the foe‘s insolence of standing before the astartes unbowed. So it was really fitting and metal af imo

In my homebrew chapter 2nd company is a mix of both stern and vanguard 1st is terminator And each company has 2 squads of company veterans

Veterans are interesting because it both allows a SM to move forward in their story without having to become captains and helps solidify a chapters theme with how each specialization is used and how prominent it is which Chapter unique veterans showcasing their unique history and quirks. If I were to pick a preferred one I would go Bladeguard both due to the design and also because they are a great one for a frontline bodyguard for a character that fights alongside the men. If I were to design a new veteran unit I would go either for veteran bike units because that is something that would fit well with White Scars or veteran infiltrators because that would be great for Raven Guard and would be something that would fit well with Primaris designs.

I really like the idea of the Veterans getting more spotlight, they really are a core of any good chapter, as for new units, I love the idea of a heavy biker unit, Veterans with CHUNKY bikes, yeah... That sounds good.

Just a correction for 11:26 Mark 10 tacticus is actually the standard mark of armor worn by almost all primaris, it is designed to have its plates interchanged to create phobos or gravis plate or standard intercessor plate. Blade guard wear intercessor plate because it provides maximum protection, unlike phobos plate which prioritizes mobility, while sacrificing as little movement as possible, unlike gravis plate which is more protected but cumbersome. On top of this the armor is an artificer mark which is custom made to the astarties and features more advanced and fine tuned systems. This, combined with their storm shield,offers almost as much protection as a terminator suit without the need for so much additional training. Now if only I could taken them in a big unit of ten.
