What a challenge. I feel for you. The hopeful part is that once you get a Datsun running right it will be a very reliable race car. Before driver’s school I rebuilt my engine which had been put together much too tight by the prior owner. After driver school and each season thereafter I pulled it apart and checked it over. It looked like I had just assembled it. Use quality parts and build in extra clearances for better oiling, and torque your head and manifold bolts frequently. Put an MSD ignition in it to keep it running crisply and rid yourself of the unreliable points and condenser ignition. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and passion, Steve. How’s the TransAm book coming? as if you don’t have enough to do. Peace.

Don’t beat yourself up over it! It’s an old, rare and mechanically unique bit of kit; it was always going to be a fraught build. It’s coming along nicely, I’m sure everybody else is enjoying the videos as much as I am and you’ll get there eventually. Fingers crossed for race day in January.

Its looks awesome mate. Good things take time and there always a few hurdles along. I bet you can't wait to get it back on the track.

I agree with the previous posters, don't beat yourself up. Racing cars are a complex hodge-podge of "best of breed" but often incompatible parts that always need fettling, clearancing, modifying and re-designing. That's why building racing cars costs so much and takes so long.
