Great review. Always neat to hear some of the tips and tricks of what makes a song really dope. I agree with you about "silent riffs" too. The breaks can absolutely make a riff hit 2x harder. Might I recommend "Absolve" "clairvoyant" or "Relapse" by the Contortionist or "Burning Down Yggdrasil" by Don't Wake the Colossus.

Mr. Geebz, I have a recommendation for you off the back of this. It's Frost/Hail from Uneven Structure (it's 2 songs back to back but flow into one another) and I think you'll really enjoy it! It's got very interesting metal/progressive arrangement that is also atmospheric, and this is my song I go to to close my eyes and get lost while also having multiple really cool goosebump-inducing riffs and breakdowns that are super groovy! Hope you react to it because I don't think you'll regret it!

Hey man, another great video, keep it up! If you're not tired of Meshuggah there's a side project the guitarist Fredrik Thordendal had called Sol Niger Within. He played a medley of it with Morgan Ågren (legendary drummer here in Sweden) that is nuts. It's a video me and my musician friends keep coming back to because it's just so freaking great. Anyway, hope you have good day! Edit: On second thought, this might mostly be exciting for drummers.

the second part of the supposed quote is from Schopenhauer, the first is also not entirely accurate. In other words: A wrong quote. However, I would not entirely dismiss the similarities between music and architecture, even if the meaning was quite different in these quotes and are out of context here a little bit.

I am enjoying your channel so much. I love hearing your less technical breakdowns, because I feel like I can understand music theory in more layman's terms. So, thank you! One song I've seen a LOT of reactors do (and I know that 'ship has sailed'), and have enjoyed immensely, is Popular Monster by Falling in Reverse. I'm very interested to see if you mention the things I've picked up on in the song's arrangement. I haven't seen many mention the things I thought I heard. Maybe it's just my uneducated ears. lol The most interesting thing I think I heard was THREE breakdowns. I don't know any other song, not any I've heard anyway, that has three breakdowns (one moving into another into another). I would greatly appreciate hearing what you think of it. Keep doing what you do! Always look forward to your next video. :)

Geebz would throw down in the moshpit during breakdowns, confirmed! Most metalcore bands only do breakdowns, but if you want solos on top, check out As I Lay Dying! Either stuff from their latest album like My Own Grave or some of their mid-late 2000's classics like Parallels.

Below is my standard Sylosis request, but as with the last Architects video, it's more relevant than usual because one of the guitarists for Architects (the one who does all the album tracking for guitars) is also co-lead guitarist and vocalist for Sylosis! Please check out Sylosis, a thrash/death metal band from Reading, England and a long-time favorite of mine. They do excellent work, and in particular are notable for the incredible riff writing of Josh Middleton, who does the vocals and co-lead guitar, as well as the fact that, until their latest album, all their songs used guitars tuned to E Standard, which is highly unusual in modern metal. I struggle to recommend just a single song from them, so instead, I'll give you a song from each album and you can pick the one you think is the most interesting :) Album - Song - Year - Notes - Link Cycle of Suffering - I Sever - 2020 - Only song I've listed tuned to D Standard instead of E, includes my favorite vocal performance in this list - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mounlWCDrNqpma8 Dormant Heart - Servitude - 2015 - Manages to get some interesting perception of speed despite its tempo - the fastest-feeling part of the song has the slowest tempo and vice versa - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5C1hWN9adyKgck Monolith - A Dying Vine - 2012 - Probably the song I've listened to the most times on this list, main riff is blazing fast and the vocals that accompany it are very quick as well, which is all the more impressive when considering that they're done by the same person at the same time. Changes significantly over its duration, particularly in emotion. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aobSnWCsj7N0qpY Edge of the Earth - Procession - 2011 - Strongest "groove" out of this list, and has my favorite intro and main riff in the list as well - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6uZqZ-ogbCXaq8 Conclusion of an Age - Last Remaining Light - 2008 - From before Josh took over the vocal role; in my opinion the old vocalist wasn't as good as him, so I don't listen to this album much, but the solos in this song are amazing and I still find it a joy to listen to. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn6kg6RnrpWDrLs

I'd like to suggest the hidden gem of the Netherlands: a man called Arjen Anthony Lucassen. The best place to get introduced to (one of) his project(s) is Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down. It's a longer song, but Arjen is a time bender. It'll be over before you want it to (I can pretty much guarantee it), and that's okay. This is just the intro. Careful, this rabbit hole is a universe on its own. Enjoy the ride and the chicken skin (we say that in Dutch as well: kippenvel). For what it is worth: I really enjoy your videos, because you give a some how neutral perspective to music, i.e., you do not judge ("that ain't real music, that is real music" etc), you take it as it it and deconstuct it froma technical perpective. Personally, this makes me appreciate the work from a differen perspective. Now my two cents and personal request: I would like you to listen to and deconstruct "Progenies of the great Apocalypse" from the symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. I am pretty much this is not a piece you would listen to in you free time, but it is not about that. I would even recommend the live version with live orchestra (in Wacken). Another personal request: "Lost to Apathy" from Dark Tranquillity. Cheers and aloha from Berlin
