Your video was one of three that helped me repair my 1960's B&D drill, which was making a terrible noise. It is cleaned, newly greased, and now it hums. Thank you for posting this. Since no one repairs such things any more, your video was invaluable to me. B&D couldn't even help me - they never answered my email. So THANK YOU!!!!

I love these drills. My dad had one from the early 70's, and it was a light brown. I have one from the late 80's, and it's black. I would guess it's from the late 70's, early 80's. They made them for a long time.The ones from the 60's were all cast bodies, I do believe. I think they went to the plastic motor housing in the early 70's. A little too easy, but hey - it's your hobby. You've got a good drill now that looks brand new.

This drill brings back memories of being married to my first wife and doing my first house up. Neither the wife or the house lasted as long as the drill. A shame about the chuck, there used to be a thing on the cable for keeping the chuck key. I’m glad you didn’t replace it with a keyless chuck, that would have been just wrong.
@gear_show6 жыл бұрын
Oh, thank you for sharing your feeling and feedback. Anyway could you tell me what year this drill is made?
@markharris57716 жыл бұрын
gear show I was using mine around 1984/5, but I presume they’d been out a few years since then. I think it was one of the first orange tools from B&D, their previous livery had been blue and gold.

I see... It’s hard to understand that in video, use comments next time maybe. Also try to find real rusty and old tools, you will get a lot of negative responses on this one, because drill looks like new. Try to find maybe a broken tool and restore it, that would be nice! Good luck!

Was that drill made in Brockville Ontario Canada? I worked at that plant in the Mid 1970s on the Half inch drill line and then on the Workmate line . The Plant closed in the 1990s ?? They made good drills then.

The piece of cardboard you took out was to keep things from touching and shorting out. Did you try putting the carbon brushes back in after putting the motor in? That's usually the best and easiest way. At least it's the way on other drills. It looks like you made it harder than it needed to be. Neat restoration. I've always wanted to paint my tools candy apple red.

O/K! So today you cleaned, and greased you drill, and replaced the chuck....why? I can buy the same in any local hardware store for $29Cdn., less if on sale, and it comes with a year warranty. Would have removed the chuck, cleaned it, , maybe filed the faces , and reinstalled, and used the tool. Why all the drama? Incidentally old rusted chucks don't normally come off that easy, so I suspect you did a little off camera prep work before hand.....right?

You ruined that comutator with sandpaper, also I'm pretty sure you didn't put bushes exactly as they were before, so it's just a matter of time when will it fail due to poor contact area. Only useful thing you did was changing the chuck for new one, other than that, you just fucked it up. Good job as always.
