Old Electric Fireplace Restoration

Electric heater in the form of a fireplace restoration.
I decided to restore this old rusty electric heater. The heater was broken and had no switches. Some parts of the heater were rusty. The heater was manufactured in 1972. I decided to restore an old electric fireplace. I removed the rust, replaced the wiring, painted and installed the switches. Now the electric fireplace provides warmth. I hope you liked my restoration.

Looks good, though it's not electrically safe - simply speaking, appliances of this type need a ground connection to their metalwork

This model of electric fireplace was very popular in the USSR in the seventies of the last century. There were really a lot of them, I had one like this at my house. Where there was no black paint of coal and gray ash on the plastic, the red color shone through like a smoldering fire under coal.

Coal effect plastic if I'm not mistaken? Five of us kids crowded around one, getting dressed for School, in the midst of winter, in Scotland, '70's! When winter WAS winter and snow WAS snow🤣🤣🤣 Remember them well! Nan had a log effect one as I remember, long long time ago now! On second thoughts, maybe not.....just seen the label, eastern europe/russian! We had similar to this type though, in Great Britain.

This heater is made in the Soviet Union. The industry of the Soviet Union copied technical devices from all over the world. The quality of such devices was worse, so things may differ.

Several tips for soldering. The soldering connections you made look cold, because the solder barely flows. Heat the wire and connector first with the soldering iron and add solder after, this will make the solder flow nicer. Flux would make it flow even more nicely, but is not required. When soldering a wire to a connection the entire wire and connector need to covered in a thin layer of solder. Never hold heat shrink in the flame, let the hot air coming off the flame shrink the heat shrink. The flame will burn it. A heat gun is preferable for heat shrink. Additionally, if you're going to put stranded wires into an electrical connector such as shown at 29:00 you're required to use ferrules to make sure the screw contacts the wire uniformally.

They left red plastic areas on the paint for light to shine through and make it visualize as embers. Bottom of the plastic shouldn't be painted at all. Not that important but you did not finish aluminium well. It will get dirty faster, radiation will be slightly worse. Aluminium is very soft, you need to use thinner sand paper and be patience. Your work is pretty detailed. I hope this comment will be helpful.

you turned the heater element “bars” on and burned a piece of paper on one ~ do they glow orange/red after a while when hot?

мав бути вентилятор який все міняє. думав згадаю дитинство . а то нема. можна зробити з круглого куска бляхи. поробити розрізи і вигнути у вигляді пропеллера. над лампочкою є голка на якій від тепла обертався вентилятор.

після перегляду реставрацій із західною технікою на цю радянщину боляче дивитись. може воно комусь і навіює якісь ностальгічні спогади, але яке все було рагульне, і це ще не найгірший приклад, бо звісно передерли з якогось чеського чи німецького зразка, як завжди

В оригіналі, пластик просвічувався лампою і був ефект темно-червоного тліючого вугілля\головешки... Памятаю, бачив своїми очима). А взагалі, чудова робота!@@ReXtorer

В мене два екземпляри, пластик в жодному не просвічується. Моливо були варіанти і з прозорим). Єдине, що дізнався, що там має бути якийсь вітряк, що створює проекцію миготіння.

Это уже упрощенно-удешевленный ,,ширпотреб,,.В первых оригинальных сверху в панель вставлялся алюм.лоток для воды,которая испаряясь восполняла пересушивание воздуха.

В мире подобные штуковины делались еше в первой половине 20 века.В совке с середины 60х годов,а в середине 70х уже и бросили.В россии выпуск продолжился до нач.80х, в ,,жопе галактики ,,задержался спрос...Кстати,реставратору железяка досталась некомплектной,а сам этого ,,приятного пустячка,, не знает.Для имитации бликов горящих углей над лампой на проволочной игле устанавливался своеобразный пропеллер,приводимый во вращение горячим воздухом от лампы накаливания.Для одаренных реставраторов пояснение:от экономок-ледок еффекта не будет...А вообще то впечатление так себе,это не винтаж,достойный работы,видно еще работающий у соседа за бутылку изьял.
