Those first three turns are so long and fast with so much elevation change, I can't begin to imagine what all those forces would feel like going through that.
It was supposed to be an oval but they were only able to build one of the bankings. What Tilke did to the circuit is just unforgivable.

Great footage! The banking was insane in this pre '76 configuration. Had the banking been designed correctly it may of survived a little longer, but too many fatalities meant they had to go. Little of the old banking now remains.

I'm playing with a radio-controlled car on the 30-degree bank, which is now a park. Even if it is a radio control, it is difficult to control the running in the bank. If you make the operation rough even a little, the car will blow away. That place is the same as the actual car. However, the good thing about radio-controlled cars is that they don't get hurt or die. My favorite machine that sticks to the bank and runs is really cool.

The old track was incredible, but also incredibly dangerous, by 1975 the Track had been shortened, missing out the original track's massive high speed ever tightening sweep right followed by the sweep left, being replaced by a very slow and tight hairpin bend which joined halfway through the 1st left sweep on the original layout. Hermann Tilke's modern day interpretation of Fuji is a very different track, very safe but it's just a modern F1 standard track, it has none of the unique character of the original layout or even the revised layout upon which it was loosely based.
@SVPSkins8 жыл бұрын
Ask racing drivers if it's lost any of it's unique character. They will tell you that it hasn't.

Nowaday the racing cars are strong and safe than past times, and also we have technologies to make racing tracks less dangerous, like softwall used in oval tracks and betters scape areas like in the road course. If were possible to reconstruct the old Fuji Speedway track, the actual technologies could be used for make it more safe without to loss the high speed.

Listening to that gearing, one could assume that car was designed on this track.
@solunasunrise9 жыл бұрын
pope400 it was probably tuned for the track ...not sure but tody most racing cars have a tunable gearbox to fit the race track .... and i know some that did that already back in the 60s
it was abandoned part of it is still there. ever wondered why its called fuji speedway but its a road course now? this is why it used to be a speedway.
This track absolutely NEEDS to be in GT5. I ran it in GTR2 before my old computer died ant its as epic as it looks. Its a shame that they abandoned it. also that GTR's engine sounds like the RB26's TRUE sound.

They could’ve at least restore the old banking and mark it as a little landmark or something.
fuji speedway is efectivly a death trap, several drivers have been killed at the 1st corner alone, let alone the horrific fireball of tetsuya ota in 98

God what an amazing track. Too bad our super safe space modern world has no time for tracks like these. A bit of old footage like this is all it takes to show how incredibly lame motor sport has become. Stirling Moss: "Why would I pay money to see a tight rope act only a few feet off the ground"
