That's a common misconception. A slow, soft wag or swish of the tail can indicate that your cat is content and happy. There are other signs you have to look at. With her having the cat for 10 years, I bet she knows what she's doing...

When I was small and I touched the cat, when she was annoyed, my mother let the cat hit me and after that mom tought me a lesson about cat behaviour and my behaviour. At least my mother did not bite me.
