Regarding Sea Shanties: i spoke to an old sailor who fought in WW2. he said his old Master Sergeant who ran the school he was taught in was in before WW1 "Back when the ships were made of wood and the men were made of iron"

It's not a shanty. Shanties were old songs sung on board (never on shore) to help get the work done. This is a fine maritime song, yes, but not a shanty.

The irony of "Old Maui" being that Hawaii is one of the youngest parts of Polynesia (geologically as well as culturally). And it took that long for them to name an island after the guy they credited with pulling islands up from the seafloor.
