15:04 You probably speak for more people than you think. This part hit me like a sledgehammer. I know exactly how that point of realisation feels, brother. It’s hard to face. Ren saved me just when I needed it. I’ve made many, many mistakes in the 57 years I’ve been on this planet and when I was at my lowest point I clicked on a random video that just caught my eye. It had been floating around for a fortnight. This was in the first week in January of 2023. The video was Hi Ren. The Money Game trilogy is in my mind Ren’s Opus (although I have a feeling that Ren is just getting into his stride!) and I had exactly the same reaction as you. The same reaction of legions of people around the world. As he said “but hold the mirror to ourselves. We’re all part of this “Old Money Game!””. We are Renegades. We are all connected by our self awareness and Ren’s music resonates with us because he tells the truth. It’s dark and it’s uncomfortable but it is us. “We must be better. Simply because the option exists” - Ren.

Wow, one of the best comments I've seen, encapsulating my own feelings about--and experiences with--Ren's music. I'm a 65-year-old who discovered Hi Ren in March of 2023, on The Charismatic Voice. I've also led a hard life, based in large part on my own bad decisions and unhealthy thinking. Ren has been a ray of light for me, shifting me straight out of "victim mode" to "no excuses" mode. Even though I'm at retirement age, I've been inspired by Ren to live as if I'm 20 or 30, with all possibilities for fulfillment before me. And by "fulfillment" I mean, "for the good of all." The final quote you used, from Ren's Eden, says it all!
@TheBorderRyker9 ай бұрын
@@ClearTheRubble7 Thank you. Eden is another gem that makes you stop and think. One of Ren’s (apparently endless) abilities is to start discussions about ourselves and the world we live in and the beauty of it all is that he sets an example that, as you so rightly said, lifts us out of our victim hood and into a no excuses mode. Because he allows himself no excuses. I have Multiple Sclerosis and without realising it I was letting it define me. Since discovering Ren I have stopped wallowing in self pity and I try every day to be better and you hit the nail on the head when you said it’s for the good of all. Best wishes from Scotland my friend. #Renegade #RenMakesMusic ✊🏼🐷❤️🔥🏴 P.S. The Charismatic Voice is great and Elizabeth really “gets” Ren.

Ren composed the whole thing, including the score for the string quartet (which he wrote as MIDI and gave to the performers to learn). Took him a while practicing the opening piano section as he needed to upgrade his own skills. Setting yourself a challenge is always the best way to learn and improve.

Ren can play a mean piano, sing and rap and beatbox, and blow you away on any kind of guitar. He sings in many styles, all beautifully. All of which takes a backseat to his storytelling and songwriting. Enjoy Ren's catalog. It keeps spreading out.

Before the take Ren was talking to the pianist and said he would really like to learn how to play the piano properly and the piano man (forgot his name) said it takes a lot of practice and Ren sure did a lot of practice to play the MG3 part in the beginning. So he isn't a very special skilled piano player. 👍 🇳🇴

The only other musician I know who has done the performance aspect of it well was Jack Black back in the early-aughts, a whole show of “The Greatest Song in the World” and how they found it, a movie on a screen behind them in between them playing. Jack played a toy sax at one point. It was a throughly entertaining show and of all the shows I’ve been to, still is one of the more entertaining ones. That’s until I discovered Ren. He’s a homegrown prodigy; future musicians will draw from his music as an influence. He’s timeless.

It would totally have been possible for someone to "impersonate" Ren's hands by wearing copies of his rings, but his guitarist hands also give him a distinctive "I likely learned to play piano without formal lessons because serious piano teachers would roll over in their grave before they let a young student play with hands like that" death-grip in his finger curl. It makes a difference to the wear and tear of advanced technique on your hands if you hold that amount of tension in your hands/fingers as your "default" hand position, can stack the deck against you getting the best sound out of the instrument in tricky passages, and can stack the deck for you to fumble notes (I hear examples here of both these things he'll have doctored up in post-production so they don't stick out - worth noting, I *also* hear some fumbles from Charlie, the professional pianist who takes over from him at the bench - this is live, afterall, and the criteria for "yeah! THIS is the take!" won't be a few blur-able fumbles on the keyboard) (Don't get me wrong; he's a really competent pianist, for a self-taught person - I'm just saying the visual of his hands on the keyboard is identifiable) We also see some moments of his hands on the keyboard in his video "For Joe," so I was dead certain these were his hands when I watched MG3 premiere. (I did the full Royal Conservatory piano & music theory curriculum as a kid/teen tho I didn't do music in uni, have played for 44 years now) There are really great shots of Ren's hands in The Big Push's Wsr Pigs video to see his rings. He wears the same rings/chains/earrings every day, once he finds something he likes. Edit: 7:58 - whew, "in fact they can just hold you back at times" YES, I've never heard it said so concisely, you put it so perfectly!

Loving your journey. I haven't checked out your other stuff yet, so I only know you like metal, but you should know that not ALL of Ren's music is super deep or hard-hitting. My commute playlist is all upbeat/motivating-to-get-me-up and includes Ren songs like What You Want, Illest of Our Time, Losing It, Power, Ocean, Murderer, Humble, etc. His Love Music series is mostly ridiculous. Ren's experienced a lot in 34 years. In my experience, being very sick, being close to death as you approach adulthood can have a profound impact on evaluating what's important in your life. Ren had immense talent and was literally stuck in bed. For years, he read, philosophized, wrote and practiced. He seems to have had an intense need to say many things while he still could. As an independent musician in his bedroom, he was able to write music and explore anything he was interested in. It led to an amazing, varied discography. A correct diagnosis, stem cell treatment, and now more medical treatments (including neurological to counteract his brain damage) in Canada are getting him healthier. His whole "Sick Boi" album is about the many ways one can be "sick" - mentally, physically, as a musician, as a pervert, etc. It's diverse. I highly recommend checking out the first track, "Seven Sins," as an introduction.

The Money Game series is so strong & brings messages we need to think about. I especially, personally, like #1, and the "When did freedom become a reason to hate..." Tho the message of we are all complicit unless we make the choice to move toward change is also important (for society's health, the earth's health, etc.), among others. I sort of wish the endings gave a feeling of more hope, tho I know they wouldn't have as much impact if it ended happily. It's one of Ren's messages, I think, that we have to do the work. (Btw, glad you made the choices you did.)

Thats what Ren does. Every song. Everytime. Got a new sub from me man. Personal fav form him is Suicide, since I've been fighting a lifelong battle with treatment resistant clinical depression. Much love.

It was Ren playing piano at the beginning! He also wrote and arranged the music for piano and strings, co-directed the video, set up all the audio and did all the production and, of course wrote those amazing lyrics and gave that wonderful,performance, all recorded live. They were going for Ren's usual one-take but they had to make a single edit, during the wheelchair section, as the 'rain machine' kept malfunctioning. After all that, the result was...? Yet another Ren masterpiece! :)
