Your close up shots reveal how meticulous you are, David. I appreciate that very much. That precious heirloom chest is now perfectly rehabilitated for the new baby. The hardware turned out great! The color choice turned out great and went well with the hardware--a golden hue to both. The veneer has a lovely grain, and you matched the veneer repair so well. I enjoyed this restoration so much.

A really wonderful and professional restoration! You are one of the few, who „feeds“ the wood with oil or wax. Not only the outside, but everywhere. When I watch restorations I often have the feeling, that the wood needed some „food“, that it is too dry. And if the restorer just leaves it that way, it feels very unpleasant. This never happens with your work! Thank you for showing! Great!

Gorgeous result. I prefer Gilboy’s to Odie’s, but both are excellent products. And of course Howard Feed-N-Wax is stellar, particularly for treating the inside of drawers and such.

Hello David. I have waited and hoped you would have a chance to save and restore this particular type of chest of drawers. I have always admired 40s/50s furniture. The repair that you had to do was virtually invisible, you'd have to look pretty hard to see it. The finish was amazing, bringing out that beautiful grain. Job well done once again. Oh and i love the new calmimg music thats played through the video. ❤ Daisy and Blackbird too.

Hi! I am not an expert in furniture, so I can't positively identify this confidently. What I can do is tell you about furniture that looks very similar to the furniture my parents owned. My mother was born in 1935 and inherited bits and pieces from my maternal grandmother. Although my mother has now passed away, as far as I can recollect, I think the pieces she had - a dressing table, a tall boy, a chest of drawers and a sideboard - were all bought in the 1940s, possibly whilst the war was still ongoing. The pieces she had were very similar in style and construction. I remember her telling me that it was utility furniture - produced from 1939 onwards to make the most out of the materials available during the war and to provide furniture for those bombed out, and who had lost all their belongings. Obviously, this construction style continued well into the 1950s until everyone had settled down and the economy improved. Your estimate of the 1940s fits well into this time span. Edit: sorry I wrote this before you explained about finding the maker's mark and that you believed it was utility furniture.

I was born in 1945 and when I was a little girl we had a chest of drawers very much like this one. It was so different from our other furniture that I asked my Mam about it and she said it was utility furniture made in the war. As someone aleady mentioned, that date on the back shouid be read in reverse so it was very likely to have been made in 1942. Very sturdy and durable, if not as pretty as some other pieces made before and after, but well worth restoration. It looks lovely now. 👍😊

It's a rustic mid century modern piece. Philips screws were introduced in the 1930s. However, they became much more common after 1966 when the original patent expired. My guess is this piece dates to the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Lovely to see that humble chest of drawers restored. The drawer pulls are gorgeous! My parents had a wardrobe, tallboy and chest of drawers of that utility furniture but the drawer pulls were made of rectangular pieces of wood. I well remember that very distinctive woodgrain pattern. Ours survived the trip from London to Sydney, Australia in 1959 and for many, many years after that. I was 4 years old then and I later used the tallboy to store baby items when I had my first son in 1974.
