Bill you’re the reason I got it! Saw it for sale $70, got 2! Sweet, bold flavor that stays strong through the whole pour! Unique brown rice (for me) thing going on, but it’s a welcomed alternative to the fruitier pours!

A local store in our area has it on sale. Was able to pick this up for $69.97. After my first sip, I went and grabbed a backup. This is a solid pour and definitely has a nice finish. Cheers 🥃

Definitely a real solid rye. After the first sip it seemed to drink easier. It’s still hanging around. Not too many places still have it but it was still at the distillery a few weeks ago

Belle of Bedford is more a 95/5 flavor profile. Minty and sweet. Black tea and spice. This OO10 is sweeter and more mellow. Great clove and cinnamon on the finish though.

Gotta say surprised you found old overholt spicy mine is delicious and has a mellow rye spice but perhaps my favorote rye. JD rye is great have three but love Jim Beam and Overholt brings those grest Beam flavors into a rye.

Interestingly people from W. PA don't pronounce Monongahela the way you did--they soften the "heela" syllables to "heyla"--like Mononga-heyla. Whether that's correct or not who knows, but from my experience growing up there that's how the people who live there say it. Cheers!

The old Overholt is good, but if I was going to spend 100 bucks on a rye, I have to say I would spend it on the Jack Daniels twice barrel, unless you are more of a kick. 🥃🥃😎 cheers, Jason.

I prefer this to the JDBP Rye by a long shot. Old JDPD special release was the best ever, but new one drinks hot. The Old Overholt is an exceptional pour. I’d buy it 10/10 over any of the other 10 yr ryes except Kentucky Owls 10. Value is incredible.

I just open this bottle and I found it to be pedestrian rye. The nose is very good but the finish is short and uneventful. Try it before you buy it like JasonC said.

I don’t think this is a monongahela rye. This is the standard OO Kentucky rye mash bill pulled from select stocks. BUT - Beam did release one about a month ago, called A Overholt Monongahela Mash Straight Rye Whiskey. This is 80%/20% rye/barley and no corn. I have not seen a single review of this product yet. I think you or @bourbonbill should check it out and review it and compare.

Can you or anybody comment on the JD BP Rye & Bonded Rye NOT being a "Straight" Rye? This means that it almost certainly has coloring and/or flavoring added, which is allowed by law on American Rye whiskey (up to 2.5%). Additives are not allowed on "Straight" Ryes, as they must be all natural like bourbon.. So, I do not think it is a fair comparison to compare an all-natural product to one that has additives of coloring & flavor, especially when you do not even mention this in the review.

Jack Daniel's never nor will ever use coloring in any whisky so your suspicions aren't going to be justified. There bonded rye (which means at least 4 years old) is actually 7 years old which explains the darker color.

@@TheMashandDrum Thanks for reply. Say that is true, which it may be. What prohibits, JD Ryes from being "Straight"? Also, if they don't use additives, why would they not include something on the bottle label, like "no additives". The realty is, any whiskey producer can pretty much write anything they want on the label and it doesn't have to be true, unless it's a regulated term like age statement, proof, where it was distilled, etc. An example of an unregulated term is, "Barrel Proof". Anybody could write this on the front label or anywhere on the bottle, and the whiskey inside does not have to be barrel proof. It can have water added down to 80P. While this is rarely or never done, OGD 114 (in 1980s or before) was advertised on the back lable as being "barrel proof".

@@motohead077 there are certain terms like small batch or barrel proof that don't have a legal definition. However, Tennessee whisky or bourbon cannot have any additives or colors whatsoever. Straight is primarily used to define the age these days of 2 years or more. I'm guessing since the rye is bonded, that already means at least 4 so straight isnt needed. However if coloring WAS added it wouldn't be able to be called Tennessee whisky at all. There are brands these days that somehow get around it...I agree with you on that. But jack is so hyper focused on being a true Tennessee whisky, this is something they would never do.
