Thank you John, this plane is very similar to the one I got, as a kit, as a birthday present in 1967, Graupner Kadett, I build it with the help of my uncle, who taught me to work with wood and to build planes. then it took me another year to fund enough money to buy a Taifun Hobby 1ccm Diesel engine. Plane was complete and we went to the maiden flight and it went well, as many that were following. The passion that was incended, never left me through my life.

Hello John, Long time ago I suggested you to build a powerless old timer, with landing gear. I hope it was the incentive for you to build this beauty. Congratulations!

The original Radio Queen was the first model aeroplane to fly across the English Channel between England and France powered by a 3.5cc diesel engine. I used to have one which I used for training beginners. I wish I'd never sold it now.

The model you show is great for soaring and was actually designed to soar (in thermals). In 1998 Multiplex came out with the "Hummel". It looks very similar to the model you show. With a few seconds of engine running I once kept it in the air chasing thermal after thermal for more than 9 minutes. Looks can be deceiving.

Nice to see an old bird like that soar again! I'm assuming this was rudder & elevator control only; since the very early RC systems (probably a vacuum - tuve radio at the time that was built) had very limited functionality & reliability compared to modern systems; also the large amount of dihedral designed into the wing. My first decent trainer airplane was a Goldberg Eagle 2 I built from a kit; it was also a high - wing design, with some dihedral, but also had ailerons. The first engine I installed in it = a Super Tigre 40 - was notoriously unreliable, (had a habit of flaming out unexpectedly), & the Eagle 2's excellent glide characteristics saved it more than once. I rember specifically taking off on a crowded day at a now long-gone RC field when I took off, & the engine flamed out at about maybe 10 feet altitude. This particular RC runway had a 3 - foot high fence gaurding a small drainage ditch at the far end of the runway;; I pushed the nose of the plane down to keep the airspeed up. It was on a straight glide path to the fence, & the rest of the guys were watching for the inevitable crash. A few feet tron the fence (now that the plane had some airspeed), I puuled a bit of up elevator to hop the Eagle 2 just clear of the fence & into the tall grass on the far side ot the drainage ditch. The crowd erupted into cheers! 😃 "GREAT SAVE!" 😁 After ditching the original Super Tigre engine for a far more reliable OS LA 40, I got years of use of that old Eagle; it went through ar least 5 crashes where I rebuilt it afterwards. On it's final flight, I was taking it up for a friend on a "buddy box" training flight; now very worn out, the old OS 40 struggled to get it off the ground; as it lifted off, a piece of Monocote fluttered off the now oil-soaked fuselage, While puttering along at a slow place, it was mid-aired from behind by a jet-styled prop model (ironically flown by the guy who ran the hobby shop I bought most of my supplies from); his plane blasted through the right wing of the Eagle at about 100 MPH, leaving a cloud of shattered balsa & Monokote bits in it's wake as his plane went spiralling down. The old Eagle hund there for a second before it too went down; this time, there wasn't enough left to rebuild. 😥 RIP Goldberg Eagle 2! 😉

At the top of the loop I thought it was going to get cast like an old ewe! The initial reaction when I saw the design was of screaming Cox's, not peaceful gentle zephyrs... what a nice way for an old bird to retire! (Don't tell my Missus I said that!)

I nearly took the undercarriage off but all the bolts were rusted up, so gave it a fly anyway and it still seemed to get plenty of lift without too much drag.

Hello John, did you manage to fly this light weight model only with rudder and elevator ? Just great again. Greatings, Wolfgang

Yes, just rudder and elevator. It could have done with a bit more control movement though.
@bjornlofving72383 ай бұрын
Thanks again! What a beautiful and gentle flight! No matter an inefficient old design, the performance is perfect on the slope. Have you changed to another slope permanently? Is there restrictions in the UK?

I was surprised by how little lead it took to balance it. But I did mount the flight battery right up in the nose and mount the servos further forward. I was also able to remove the tail wheel.
